26. Surah Ash-Shu'ara
The Poets · Makki · 227 Ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
تِلْكَ These ءَايَـٰتُ (are the) Verses ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book ٱلْمُبِينِ clear ٢
These are the verses of the clear Book.
— Come To Light
لَعَلَّكَ Perhaps you بَـٰخِعٌۭ (would) kill نَّفْسَكَ yourself أَلَّا that not يَكُونُوا۟ they become مُؤْمِنِينَ believers ٣
Perhaps, [O Muḥammad], you would kill yourself with grief that they will not be believers.
— Come To Light
إِن If نَّشَأْ We will نُنَزِّلْ We can send down عَلَيْهِم to them مِّنَ from ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky ءَايَةًۭ a Sign فَظَلَّتْ so would bend أَعْنَـٰقُهُمْ their necks لَهَا to it خَـٰضِعِينَ (in) humility ٤
If We willed, We could send down to them from the sky a sign for which their necks would remain humbled.
— Come To Light
وَمَا And (does) not يَأْتِيهِم come to them مِّن any ذِكْرٍۢ reminder مِّنَ from ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ the Most Gracious مُحْدَثٍ new إِلَّا but كَانُوا۟ they عَنْهُ from it مُعْرِضِينَ turn away ٥
And no mention [i.e., revelation] comes to them anew from the Most Merciful except that they turn away from it.
— Come To Light
فَقَدْ So verily كَذَّبُوا۟ they have denied فَسَيَأْتِيهِمْ then will come to them أَنۢبَـٰٓؤُا۟ the news مَا (of) what كَانُوا۟ they used بِهِۦ at it يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ (to) mock ٦
For they have already denied, but there will come to them the news of that which they used to ridicule.
— Come To Light
أَوَلَمْ Do not يَرَوْا۟ they see إِلَى at ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth كَمْ how many أَنۢبَتْنَا We produced فِيهَا in it مِن of كُلِّ every زَوْجٍۢ kind كَرِيمٍ noble ٧
Did they not look at the earth - how much We have produced therein from every noble kind?
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely (is) a sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ٨
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely, He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ٩
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
— Come To Light
وَإِذْ And when نَادَىٰ your Lord called رَبُّكَ your Lord called مُوسَىٰٓ Musa أَنِ [that] ٱئْتِ Go ٱلْقَوْمَ (to) the people ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ (who are) wrongdoers ١٠
And [mention] when your Lord called Moses, [saying], "Go to the wrongdoing people -
— Come To Light
قَوْمَ (The) people فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ (of) Firaun أَلَا Will not يَتَّقُونَ they fear ١١
The people of Pharaoh. Will they not fear Allāh?"
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said رَبِّ My Lord إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I أَخَافُ [I] fear أَن that يُكَذِّبُونِ they will deny me ١٢
He said, "My Lord, indeed I fear that they will deny me
— Come To Light
وَيَضِيقُ And straitens صَدْرِى my breast وَلَا and not يَنطَلِقُ expresses well لِسَانِى my tongue فَأَرْسِلْ so send إِلَىٰ for هَـٰرُونَ Harun ١٣
And that my breast will tighten and my tongue will not be fluent, so send for Aaron.
— Come To Light
وَلَهُمْ And they have عَلَىَّ against me ذَنۢبٌۭ a crime فَأَخَافُ so I fear أَن that يَقْتُلُونِ they will kill me ١٤
And they have upon me a [claim due to] sin, so I fear that they will kill me."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said كَلَّا ۖ Nay فَٱذْهَبَا go both of you بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ ۖ with Our Signs إِنَّا Indeed, We مَعَكُم (are) with you مُّسْتَمِعُونَ listening ١٥
[Allāh] said, "No. Go both of you with Our signs; indeed, We are with you, listening.
— Come To Light
فَأْتِيَا So go both of you فِرْعَوْنَ (to) Firaun فَقُولَآ and say إِنَّا 'Indeed, we رَسُولُ (are the) Messenger رَبِّ (of the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ١٦
Go to Pharaoh and say, 'We are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds,
— Come To Light
أَنْ [That] أَرْسِلْ send مَعَنَا with us بَنِىٓ (the) Children of Israel.' إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (the) Children of Israel.' ١٧
[Commanded to say], "Send with us the Children of Israel."'"
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said أَلَمْ Did not نُرَبِّكَ we bring you up فِينَا among us وَلِيدًۭا (as) a child وَلَبِثْتَ and you remained فِينَا among us مِنْ of عُمُرِكَ your life سِنِينَ years ١٨
[Pharaoh] said, "Did we not raise you among us as a child, and you remained among us for years of your life?
— Come To Light
وَفَعَلْتَ And you did فَعْلَتَكَ your deed ٱلَّتِى which فَعَلْتَ you did وَأَنتَ and you مِنَ (were) of ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the ungrateful ١٩
And [then] you did your deed which you did, and you were of the ungrateful."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said فَعَلْتُهَآ I did it إِذًۭا when وَأَنَا۠ I مِنَ (was) of ٱلضَّآلِّينَ those who are astray ٢٠
[Moses] said, "I did it, then, while I was of those astray [i.e., ignorant].
— Come To Light
فَفَرَرْتُ So I fled مِنكُمْ from you لَمَّا when خِفْتُكُمْ I feared you فَوَهَبَ But granted لِى to me رَبِّى my Lord حُكْمًۭا judgment وَجَعَلَنِى and made me مِنَ of ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers ٢١
So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me judgement [i.e., wisdom and prophet hood] and appointed me [as one] of the messengers.
— Come To Light
وَتِلْكَ And this نِعْمَةٌۭ (is the) favor تَمُنُّهَا with which you reproach عَلَىَّ [on] me أَنْ that عَبَّدتَّ you have enslaved بَنِىٓ (the) Children of Israel إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (the) Children of Israel ٢٢
And is this a favor of which you remind me - that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?"
— Come To Light
قَالَ Firaun said فِرْعَوْنُ Firaun said وَمَا And what رَبُّ (is the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ٢٣
Said Pharaoh, "And what is the Lord of the worlds?"
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said رَبُّ Lord ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth وَمَا and whatever بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ (is) between them إِن if كُنتُم you (should) be مُّوقِنِينَ convinced ٢٤
[Moses] said, "The Lord of the heavens and earth and that between them, if you should be convinced."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said لِمَنْ to those حَوْلَهُۥٓ around him أَلَا Do not تَسْتَمِعُونَ you hear ٢٥
[Pharaoh] said to those around him, "Do you not hear?"
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said رَبُّكُمْ Your Lord وَرَبُّ and (the) Lord ءَابَآئِكُمُ (of) your forefathers ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) your forefathers ٢٦
[Moses] said, "Your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said إِنَّ Indeed رَسُولَكُمُ your Messenger ٱلَّذِىٓ who أُرْسِلَ has been sent إِلَيْكُمْ to you لَمَجْنُونٌۭ (is) surely mad ٢٧
[Pharaoh] said, "Indeed, your 'messenger' who has been sent to you is mad."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said رَبُّ Lord ٱلْمَشْرِقِ (of) the east وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ and the west وَمَا and whatever بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ (is) between them إِن if كُنتُمْ you were تَعْقِلُونَ (to) reason ٢٨
[Moses] said, "Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were to reason."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said لَئِنِ If ٱتَّخَذْتَ you take إِلَـٰهًا a god غَيْرِى other than me لَأَجْعَلَنَّكَ I will surely make you مِنَ among ٱلْمَسْجُونِينَ those imprisoned ٢٩
[Pharaoh] said, "If you take a god other than me, I will surely place you among those imprisoned."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said أَوَلَوْ Even if جِئْتُكَ I bring you بِشَىْءٍۢ something مُّبِينٍۢ manifest ٣٠
[Moses] said, "Even if I brought you something [i.e., proof] manifest?"
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said فَأْتِ Then bring بِهِۦٓ it إِن if كُنتَ you are مِنَ of ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ the truthful ٣١
[Pharaoh] said, "Then bring it, if you should be of the truthful."
— Come To Light
فَأَلْقَىٰ So he threw عَصَاهُ his staff فَإِذَا and behold هِىَ It ثُعْبَانٌۭ (was) a serpent مُّبِينٌۭ manifest ٣٢
So [Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent manifest.
— Come To Light
وَنَزَعَ And he drew out يَدَهُۥ his hand فَإِذَا and behold هِىَ It بَيْضَآءُ (was) white لِلنَّـٰظِرِينَ for the observers ٣٣
And he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white for the observers.
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said لِلْمَلَإِ to the chiefs حَوْلَهُۥٓ around him إِنَّ Indeed هَـٰذَا this لَسَـٰحِرٌ (is) surely a magician عَلِيمٌۭ learned ٣٤
[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician.
— Come To Light
يُرِيدُ He wants أَن to يُخْرِجَكُم drive you out مِّنْ from أَرْضِكُم your land بِسِحْرِهِۦ by his magic فَمَاذَا so what تَأْمُرُونَ (do) you advise ٣٥
He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?"
— Come To Light
قَالُوٓا۟ They said أَرْجِهْ Postpone him وَأَخَاهُ and his brother وَٱبْعَثْ and send فِى in ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ the cities حَـٰشِرِينَ gatherers ٣٦
They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers
— Come To Light
يَأْتُوكَ They (will) bring to you بِكُلِّ every سَحَّارٍ magician عَلِيمٍۢ learned ٣٧
Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician."
— Come To Light
فَجُمِعَ So were assembled ٱلسَّحَرَةُ the magicians لِمِيقَـٰتِ for (the) appointment يَوْمٍۢ (on) a day مَّعْلُومٍۢ well-known ٣٨
So the magicians were assembled for the appointment of a well-known day.
— Come To Light
وَقِيلَ And it was said لِلنَّاسِ to the people هَلْ Will أَنتُم you مُّجْتَمِعُونَ assemble ٣٩
And it was said to the people, "Will you congregate.
— Come To Light
لَعَلَّنَا That we may نَتَّبِعُ follow ٱلسَّحَرَةَ the magicians إِن if كَانُوا۟ they are هُمُ they are ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ the victorious ٤٠
That we might follow the magicians if they are the predominant?"
— Come To Light
فَلَمَّا So when جَآءَ came ٱلسَّحَرَةُ the magicians قَالُوا۟ they said لِفِرْعَوْنَ to Firaun أَئِنَّ Is there لَنَا for us لَأَجْرًا a reward إِن if كُنَّا we are نَحْنُ we are ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ the victorious ٤١
And when the magicians arrived, they said to Pharaoh, "Is there indeed for us a reward if we are the predominant?"
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said نَعَمْ Yes وَإِنَّكُمْ and indeed you إِذًۭا then لَّمِنَ surely (will be) of ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ the ones who are brought near ٤٢
He said, "Yes, and indeed, you will then be of those near [to me]."
— Come To Light
قَالَ Said لَهُم to them مُّوسَىٰٓ Musa أَلْقُوا۟ Throw مَآ what أَنتُم you مُّلْقُونَ (are) going to throw ٤٣
Moses said to them, "Throw whatever you will throw."
— Come To Light
فَأَلْقَوْا۟ So they threw حِبَالَهُمْ their ropes وَعِصِيَّهُمْ and their staffs وَقَالُوا۟ and said بِعِزَّةِ By the might فِرْعَوْنَ (of) Firaun إِنَّا indeed, we لَنَحْنُ surely, we ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ (are) the victorious ٤٤
So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant."
— Come To Light
فَأَلْقَىٰ Then threw مُوسَىٰ Musa عَصَاهُ his staff فَإِذَا and behold هِىَ It تَلْقَفُ swallowed مَا what يَأْفِكُونَ they falsified ٤٥
Then Moses threw his staff, and at once it devoured what they falsified.
— Come To Light
فَأُلْقِىَ Then fell down ٱلسَّحَرَةُ the magicians سَـٰجِدِينَ prostrate ٤٦
So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allāh].
— Come To Light
قَالُوٓا۟ They said ءَامَنَّا We believe بِرَبِّ in (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ٤٧
They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds,
— Come To Light
رَبِّ Lord مُوسَىٰ (of) Musa وَهَـٰرُونَ and Harun ٤٨
The Lord of Moses and Aaron."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said ءَامَنتُمْ You believed لَهُۥ in him قَبْلَ before أَنْ [that] ءَاذَنَ I gave permission لَكُمْ ۖ to you إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he لَكَبِيرُكُمُ (is) surely your chief ٱلَّذِى who عَلَّمَكُمُ has taught you ٱلسِّحْرَ the magic فَلَسَوْفَ so surely soon تَعْلَمُونَ ۚ you will know لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ I will surely cut off أَيْدِيَكُمْ your hands وَأَرْجُلَكُم and your feet مِّنْ of خِلَـٰفٍۢ opposite sides وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ and I will surely crucify you أَجْمَعِينَ all ٤٩
[Pharaoh] said, "You believed him [i.e., Moses] before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all."
— Come To Light
قَالُوا۟ They said لَا No ضَيْرَ ۖ harm إِنَّآ Indeed, we إِلَىٰ to رَبِّنَا our Lord مُنقَلِبُونَ (will) return ٥٠
They said, "No harm. Indeed, to our Lord we will return.
— Come To Light
إِنَّا Indeed, we نَطْمَعُ hope أَن that يَغْفِرَ will forgive لَنَا us رَبُّنَا our Lord خَطَـٰيَـٰنَآ our sins أَن because كُنَّآ we are أَوَّلَ (the) first ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ (of) the believers ٥١
Indeed, we aspire that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we were the first of the believers."
— Come To Light
۞ وَأَوْحَيْنَآ And We inspired إِلَىٰ to مُوسَىٰٓ Musa أَنْ [that] أَسْرِ Travel by night بِعِبَادِىٓ with My slaves إِنَّكُم indeed, you مُّتَّبَعُونَ (will be) followed ٥٢
And We inspired to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants; indeed, you will be pursued."
— Come To Light
فَأَرْسَلَ Then sent فِرْعَوْنُ Firaun فِى in ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ the cities حَـٰشِرِينَ gatherers ٥٣
Then Pharaoh sent among the cities gatherers
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ these لَشِرْذِمَةٌۭ (are) certainly a band قَلِيلُونَ small ٥٤
[And said], "Indeed, those are but a small band,
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّهُمْ And indeed, they لَنَا [to] us لَغَآئِظُونَ (are) surely enraging ٥٥
And indeed, they are enraging us,
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّا And indeed, we لَجَمِيعٌ (are) surely a multitude حَـٰذِرُونَ forewarned ٥٦
And indeed, we are a cautious society..."
— Come To Light
فَأَخْرَجْنَـٰهُم So We expelled them مِّن from جَنَّـٰتٍۢ gardens وَعُيُونٍۢ and springs ٥٧
So We removed them from gardens and springs
— Come To Light
وَكُنُوزٍۢ And treasures وَمَقَامٍۢ and a place كَرِيمٍۢ honorable ٥٨
And treasures and honorable station -
— Come To Light
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus وَأَوْرَثْنَـٰهَا And We caused to inherit them بَنِىٓ (the) Children of Israel إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (the) Children of Israel ٥٩
Thus. And We caused to inherit it the Children of Israel.
— Come To Light
فَأَتْبَعُوهُم So they followed them مُّشْرِقِينَ (at) sunrise ٦٠
So they pursued them at sunrise.
— Come To Light
فَلَمَّا Then when تَرَٰٓءَا saw each other ٱلْجَمْعَانِ the two hosts قَالَ said أَصْحَـٰبُ (the) companions مُوسَىٰٓ (of) Musa إِنَّا Indeed, we لَمُدْرَكُونَ (are) surely to be overtaken ٦١
And when the two companies saw one another, the companions of Moses said, "Indeed, we are to be overtaken!"
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said كَلَّآ ۖ Nay إِنَّ indeed مَعِىَ with me رَبِّى (is) my Lord سَيَهْدِينِ He will guide me ٦٢
[Moses] said, "No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me."
— Come To Light
فَأَوْحَيْنَآ Then We inspired إِلَىٰ to مُوسَىٰٓ Musa أَنِ [that] ٱضْرِب Strike بِّعَصَاكَ with your staff ٱلْبَحْرَ ۖ the sea فَٱنفَلَقَ So it parted فَكَانَ and became كُلُّ each فِرْقٍۢ part كَٱلطَّوْدِ like the mountain ٱلْعَظِيمِ [the] great ٦٣
Then We inspired to Moses, "Strike with your staff the sea," and it parted, and each portion was like a great towering mountain.
— Come To Light
وَأَزْلَفْنَا And We brought near ثَمَّ there ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ the others ٦٤
And We advanced thereto the others [i.e., the pursuers].
— Come To Light
وَأَنجَيْنَا And We saved مُوسَىٰ Musa وَمَن and who مَّعَهُۥٓ (were) with him أَجْمَعِينَ all ٦٥
And We saved Moses and those with him, all together.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then أَغْرَقْنَا We drowned ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ the others ٦٦
Then We drowned the others.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely (is) a Sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ٦٧
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ٦٨

— Come To Light
وَٱتْلُ And recite عَلَيْهِمْ to them نَبَأَ (the) news إِبْرَٰهِيمَ (of) Ibrahim ٦٩
And recite to them the news of Abraham,
— Come To Light
إِذْ When قَالَ he said لِأَبِيهِ to his father وَقَوْمِهِۦ and his people مَا What تَعْبُدُونَ (do) you worship ٧٠
When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?"
— Come To Light
قَالُوا۟ They said نَعْبُدُ We worship أَصْنَامًۭا idols فَنَظَلُّ so we will remain لَهَا to them عَـٰكِفِينَ devoted ٧١
They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said هَلْ Do يَسْمَعُونَكُمْ they hear you إِذْ when تَدْعُونَ you call ٧٢
He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate?
— Come To Light
أَوْ Or يَنفَعُونَكُمْ (do) they benefit you أَوْ or يَضُرُّونَ they harm (you) ٧٣
Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?"
— Come To Light
قَالُوا۟ They said بَلْ Nay وَجَدْنَآ but we found ءَابَآءَنَا our forefathers كَذَٰلِكَ like that يَفْعَلُونَ doing ٧٤
They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said أَفَرَءَيْتُم Do you see مَّا what كُنتُمْ you have been تَعْبُدُونَ worshipping ٧٥
He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping,
— Come To Light
أَنتُمْ You وَءَابَآؤُكُمُ and your forefathers ٱلْأَقْدَمُونَ and your forefathers ٧٦
You and your ancient forefathers?
— Come To Light
فَإِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they عَدُوٌّۭ (are) enemies لِّىٓ to me إِلَّا except رَبَّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ٧٧
Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds,
— Come To Light
ٱلَّذِى The One Who خَلَقَنِى created me فَهُوَ and He يَهْدِينِ guides me ٧٨
Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me.
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِى And the One Who هُوَ [He] يُطْعِمُنِى gives me food وَيَسْقِينِ and gives me drink ٧٩
And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink.
— Come To Light
وَإِذَا And when مَرِضْتُ I am ill فَهُوَ then He يَشْفِينِ cures me ٨٠
And when I am ill, it is He who cures me
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِى And the One Who يُمِيتُنِى will cause me to die ثُمَّ then يُحْيِينِ he will give me life ٨١
And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِىٓ And the One Who أَطْمَعُ I hope أَن that يَغْفِرَ He will forgive لِى for me خَطِيٓـَٔتِى my faults يَوْمَ (on the) Day ٱلدِّينِ (of) the Judgment ٨٢
And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense."
— Come To Light
رَبِّ My Lord هَبْ Grant لِى [for] me حُكْمًۭا wisdom وَأَلْحِقْنِى and join me بِٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ with the righteous ٨٣
[And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous.
— Come To Light
وَٱجْعَل And grant لِّى [for] me لِسَانَ a mention صِدْقٍۢ (of) honor فِى among ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ the later (generations) ٨٤
And grant me a mention [i.e., reputation] of honor among later generations.
— Come To Light
وَٱجْعَلْنِى And make me مِن of وَرَثَةِ (the) inheritors جَنَّةِ (of) Garden(s) ٱلنَّعِيمِ (of) Delight ٨٥
And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure.
— Come To Light
وَٱغْفِرْ And forgive لِأَبِىٓ my father إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he كَانَ is مِنَ of ٱلضَّآلِّينَ those astray ٨٦
And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray.
— Come To Light
وَلَا And (do) not تُخْزِنِى disgrace me يَوْمَ (on the) Day يُبْعَثُونَ they are resurrected ٨٧
And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected -
— Come To Light
يَوْمَ (The) Day لَا not يَنفَعُ will benefit مَالٌۭ wealth وَلَا and not بَنُونَ sons ٨٨
The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children
— Come To Light
إِلَّا Except مَنْ (he) who أَتَى comes ٱللَّهَ (to) Allah بِقَلْبٍۢ with a heart سَلِيمٍۢ sound ٨٩
But only one who comes to Allāh with a sound heart."
— Come To Light
وَأُزْلِفَتِ And (will be) brought near ٱلْجَنَّةُ the Paradise لِلْمُتَّقِينَ for the righteous ٩٠
And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous.
— Come To Light
وَبُرِّزَتِ And (will be) made manifest ٱلْجَحِيمُ the Hellfire لِلْغَاوِينَ to the deviators ٩١
And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators,
— Come To Light
وَقِيلَ And it will be said لَهُمْ to them أَيْنَ Where مَا (is) that كُنتُمْ you used تَعْبُدُونَ (to) worship ٩٢
And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship
— Come To Light
مِن Besides Allah دُونِ Besides Allah ٱللَّهِ Besides Allah هَلْ Can يَنصُرُونَكُمْ they help you أَوْ or يَنتَصِرُونَ help themselves ٩٣
Other than Allāh? Can they help you or help themselves?"
— Come To Light
فَكُبْكِبُوا۟ Then they will be overturned فِيهَا into it هُمْ they وَٱلْغَاوُۥنَ and the deviators ٩٤
So they will be overturned into it [i.e., Hellfire], they and the deviators
— Come To Light
وَجُنُودُ And (the) hosts إِبْلِيسَ (of) Iblis أَجْمَعُونَ all together ٩٥
And the soldiers of Iblees, all together.
— Come To Light
قَالُوا۟ They (will) say وَهُمْ while they فِيهَا in it يَخْتَصِمُونَ (are) disputing ٩٦
They will say while they dispute therein,
— Come To Light
تَٱللَّهِ By Allah إِن indeed كُنَّا we were لَفِى surely in ضَلَـٰلٍۢ error مُّبِينٍ clear ٩٧
"By Allāh, we were indeed in manifest error
— Come To Light
إِذْ When نُسَوِّيكُم we equated you بِرَبِّ with (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ٩٨
When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds.
— Come To Light
وَمَآ And not أَضَلَّنَآ misguided us إِلَّا except ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ the criminals ٩٩
And no one misguided us except the criminals.
— Come To Light
فَمَا So (now) not لَنَا we have مِن any شَـٰفِعِينَ intercessors ١٠٠
So now we have no intercessors
— Come To Light
وَلَا And not صَدِيقٍ a friend حَمِيمٍۢ close ١٠١
And not a devoted friend.
— Come To Light
فَلَوْ Then if أَنَّ that لَنَا we had كَرَّةًۭ a return فَنَكُونَ then we could be مِنَ of ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers ١٠٢
Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers..."
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely is a Sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ١٠٣
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ١٠٤
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
— Come To Light
كَذَّبَتْ Denied قَوْمُ (the) people نُوحٍ (of) Nuh ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers ١٠٥
The people of Noah denied the messengers
— Come To Light
إِذْ When قَالَ said لَهُمْ to them أَخُوهُمْ their brother نُوحٌ Nuh أَلَا Will not تَتَّقُونَ you fear (Allah) ١٠٦
When their brother Noah said to them, "Will you not fear Allāh?
— Come To Light
إِنِّى Indeed, I am لَكُمْ to you رَسُولٌ a Messenger أَمِينٌۭ trustworthy ١٠٧
Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.
— Come To Light
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١٠٨
So fear Allāh and obey me.
— Come To Light
وَمَآ And not أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ I ask (of) you عَلَيْهِ for it مِنْ any أَجْرٍ ۖ payment إِنْ Not أَجْرِىَ (is) my payment إِلَّا but عَلَىٰ from رَبِّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ١٠٩
And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
— Come To Light
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١١٠
So fear Allāh and obey me."
— Come To Light
۞ قَالُوٓا۟ They said أَنُؤْمِنُ Should we believe لَكَ in you وَٱتَّبَعَكَ while followed you ٱلْأَرْذَلُونَ the lowest ١١١
They said, "Should we believe you while you are followed by the lowest [class of people]?"
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said وَمَا And what عِلْمِى (do) I know بِمَا of what كَانُوا۟ they used يَعْمَلُونَ (to) do ١١٢
He said, "And what is my knowledge of what they used to do?
— Come To Light
إِنْ Verily حِسَابُهُمْ their account إِلَّا (is) but عَلَىٰ upon رَبِّى ۖ my Lord لَوْ if تَشْعُرُونَ you perceive ١١٣
Their account is only upon my Lord, if you [could] perceive.
— Come To Light
وَمَآ And not أَنَا۠ I am بِطَارِدِ the one to drive away ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers ١١٤
And I am not one to drive away the believers.
— Come To Light
إِنْ Not أَنَا۠ I am إِلَّا but نَذِيرٌۭ a warner مُّبِينٌۭ clear ١١٥
I am only a clear warner."
— Come To Light
قَالُوا۟ They said لَئِن If لَّمْ not تَنتَهِ you desist يَـٰنُوحُ O Nuh لَتَكُونَنَّ Surely you will be مِنَ of ٱلْمَرْجُومِينَ those who are stoned ١١٦
They said, "If you do not desist, O Noah, you will surely be of those who are stoned."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said رَبِّ My Lord إِنَّ Indeed قَوْمِى my people كَذَّبُونِ have denied me ١١٧
He said, "My Lord, indeed my people have denied me.
— Come To Light
فَٱفْتَحْ So judge بَيْنِى between me وَبَيْنَهُمْ and between them فَتْحًۭا (with decisive) judgment وَنَجِّنِى and save me وَمَن and who مَّعِىَ (are) with me مِنَ of ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers ١١٨
Then judge between me and them with decisive judgement and save me and those with me of the believers."
— Come To Light
فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ So We saved him وَمَن and who مَّعَهُۥ (were) with him فِى in ٱلْفُلْكِ the ship ٱلْمَشْحُونِ laden ١١٩
So We saved him and those with him in the laden ship.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then أَغْرَقْنَا We drowned بَعْدُ thereafter ٱلْبَاقِينَ the remaining ones ١٢٠
Then We drowned thereafter the remaining ones.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely, (is) a sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ١٢١
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely, He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ١٢٢
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
— Come To Light
كَذَّبَتْ Denied عَادٌ (the people) of Aad ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers ١٢٣
ʿAad denied the messengers
— Come To Light
إِذْ When قَالَ said لَهُمْ to them أَخُوهُمْ their brother هُودٌ Hud أَلَا Will not تَتَّقُونَ you fear (Allah) ١٢٤
When their brother Hūd said to them, "Will you not fear Allāh?
— Come To Light
إِنِّى Indeed, I am لَكُمْ to you رَسُولٌ a Messenger أَمِينٌۭ trustworthy ١٢٥
Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.
— Come To Light
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١٢٦
So fear Allāh and obey me.
— Come To Light
وَمَآ And not أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ I ask you عَلَيْهِ for it مِنْ any أَجْرٍ ۖ payment إِنْ Not أَجْرِىَ (is) my payment إِلَّا except عَلَىٰ from رَبِّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ١٢٧
And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
— Come To Light
أَتَبْنُونَ Do you construct بِكُلِّ on every رِيعٍ elevation ءَايَةًۭ a sign تَعْبَثُونَ amusing yourselves ١٢٨
Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves,
— Come To Light
وَتَتَّخِذُونَ And take for yourselves مَصَانِعَ strongholds لَعَلَّكُمْ that you may تَخْلُدُونَ live forever ١٢٩
And take for yourselves constructions [i.e., palaces and fortresses] that you might abide eternally?
— Come To Light
وَإِذَا And when بَطَشْتُم you seize بَطَشْتُمْ you seize جَبَّارِينَ (as) tyrants ١٣٠
And when you strike, you strike as tyrants.
— Come To Light
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١٣١
So fear Allāh and obey me.
— Come To Light
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ And fear ٱلَّذِىٓ the One Who أَمَدَّكُم has aided you بِمَا with what تَعْلَمُونَ you know ١٣٢
And fear He who provided you with that which you know,
— Come To Light
أَمَدَّكُم He has aided you بِأَنْعَـٰمٍۢ with cattle وَبَنِينَ and children ١٣٣
Provided you with grazing livestock and children
— Come To Light
وَجَنَّـٰتٍۢ And gardens وَعُيُونٍ and springs ١٣٤
And gardens and springs.
— Come To Light
إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I أَخَافُ [I] fear عَلَيْكُمْ for you عَذَابَ (the) punishment يَوْمٍ (of) a Day عَظِيمٍۢ Great ١٣٥
Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day."
— Come To Light
قَالُوا۟ They said سَوَآءٌ (It is) same عَلَيْنَآ to us أَوَعَظْتَ whether you advise أَمْ or لَمْ not تَكُن you are مِّنَ of ٱلْوَٰعِظِينَ the advisors ١٣٦
They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors.
— Come To Light
إِنْ Not هَـٰذَآ (is) this إِلَّا but خُلُقُ (the) custom ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) the former (people) ١٣٧
This is not but the custom of the former peoples,
— Come To Light
وَمَا And not نَحْنُ we بِمُعَذَّبِينَ (are) the ones to be punished ١٣٨
And we are not to be punished."
— Come To Light
فَكَذَّبُوهُ So they denied him فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ ۗ then We destroyed them إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely, is a sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ١٣٩
And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely, He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ١٤٠
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
— Come To Light
كَذَّبَتْ Denied ثَمُودُ Thamud ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers ١٤١
Thamūd denied the messengers
— Come To Light
إِذْ When قَالَ said لَهُمْ to them أَخُوهُمْ their brother صَـٰلِحٌ Salih أَلَا Will not تَتَّقُونَ you fear (Allah) ١٤٢
When their brother Ṣāliḥ said to them, "Will you not fear Allāh?
— Come To Light
إِنِّى Indeed, I am لَكُمْ to you رَسُولٌ a Messenger أَمِينٌۭ trustworthy ١٤٣
Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.
— Come To Light
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١٤٤
So fear Allāh and obey me.
— Come To Light
وَمَآ And not أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ I ask you عَلَيْهِ for it مِنْ any أَجْرٍ ۖ payment إِنْ Not أَجْرِىَ (is) my payment إِلَّا except عَلَىٰ from رَبِّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ١٤٥
And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
— Come To Light
أَتُتْرَكُونَ Will you be left فِى in مَا what هَـٰهُنَآ (is) here ءَامِنِينَ secure ١٤٦
Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death],
— Come To Light
فِى In جَنَّـٰتٍۢ gardens وَعُيُونٍۢ and springs ١٤٧
Within gardens and springs
— Come To Light
وَزُرُوعٍۢ And cornfields وَنَخْلٍۢ and date-palms طَلْعُهَا its spadix هَضِيمٌۭ soft ١٤٨
And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit?
— Come To Light
وَتَنْحِتُونَ And you carve مِنَ of ٱلْجِبَالِ the mountains بُيُوتًۭا houses فَـٰرِهِينَ skillfully ١٤٩
And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill.
— Come To Light
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١٥٠
So fear Allāh and obey me.
— Come To Light
وَلَا And (do) not تُطِيعُوٓا۟ obey أَمْرَ (the) command ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ (of) the transgressors ١٥١
And do not obey the order of the transgressors,
— Come To Light
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who يُفْسِدُونَ spread corruption فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth وَلَا and (do) not يُصْلِحُونَ reform ١٥٢
Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend."
— Come To Light
قَالُوٓا۟ They said إِنَّمَآ Only أَنتَ you مِنَ (are) of ٱلْمُسَحَّرِينَ those bewitched ١٥٣
They said, "You are only of those affected by magic.
— Come To Light
مَآ Not أَنتَ you إِلَّا (are) except بَشَرٌۭ a man مِّثْلُنَا like us فَأْتِ so bring بِـَٔايَةٍ a sign إِن if كُنتَ you مِنَ (are) of ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ the truthful ١٥٤
You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said هَـٰذِهِۦ This نَاقَةٌۭ (is) a she-camel لَّهَا For her شِرْبٌۭ (is a share of) drink وَلَكُمْ and for you شِرْبُ (is a share of) drink يَوْمٍۢ (on) a day مَّعْلُومٍۢ known ١٥٥
He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day.
— Come To Light
وَلَا And (do) not تَمَسُّوهَا touch her بِسُوٓءٍۢ with harm فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ lest seize you عَذَابُ (the) punishment يَوْمٍ (of) a Day عَظِيمٍۢ Great ١٥٦
And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day."
— Come To Light
فَعَقَرُوهَا But they hamstrung her فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ then they became نَـٰدِمِينَ regretful ١٥٧
But they hamstrung her and so became regretful.
— Come To Light
فَأَخَذَهُمُ So seized them ٱلْعَذَابُ ۗ the punishment إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely is a sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ١٥٨
And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ١٥٩
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
— Come To Light
كَذَّبَتْ Denied قَوْمُ (the) people لُوطٍ (of) Lut ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers ١٦٠
The people of Lot denied the messengers
— Come To Light
إِذْ When قَالَ said لَهُمْ to them أَخُوهُمْ their brother لُوطٌ Lut أَلَا Will not تَتَّقُونَ you fear (Allah) ١٦١
When their brother Lot said to them, "Will you not fear Allāh?
— Come To Light
إِنِّى Indeed, I am لَكُمْ to you رَسُولٌ a Messenger أَمِينٌۭ trustworthy ١٦٢
Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.
— Come To Light
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١٦٣
So fear Allāh and obey me.
— Come To Light
وَمَآ And not أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ I ask you عَلَيْهِ for it مِنْ any أَجْرٍ ۖ payment إِنْ Not أَجْرِىَ (is) my payment إِلَّا except عَلَىٰ from رَبِّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ١٦٤
And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
— Come To Light
أَتَأْتُونَ Do you approach ٱلذُّكْرَانَ the males مِنَ among ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ the worlds ١٦٥
Do you approach males among the worlds
— Come To Light
وَتَذَرُونَ And you leave مَا what خَلَقَ created لَكُمْ for you رَبُّكُم your Lord مِّنْ of أَزْوَٰجِكُم ۚ your mates بَلْ Nay أَنتُمْ you قَوْمٌ (are) a people عَادُونَ transgressing ١٦٦
And leave what your Lord has created for you as mates? But you are a people transgressing."
— Come To Light
قَالُوا۟ They said لَئِن If لَّمْ not تَنتَهِ you desist يَـٰلُوطُ O Lut لَتَكُونَنَّ Surely, you will be مِنَ of ٱلْمُخْرَجِينَ the ones driven out ١٦٧
They said, "If you do not desist, O Lot, you will surely be of those evicted."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said إِنِّى Indeed, I am لِعَمَلِكُم (of) your deed مِّنَ of ٱلْقَالِينَ those who detest ١٦٨
He said, "Indeed, I am, toward your deed, of those who detest [it].
— Come To Light
رَبِّ My Lord نَجِّنِى Save me وَأَهْلِى and my family مِمَّا from what يَعْمَلُونَ they do ١٦٩
My Lord, save me and my family from [the consequence of] what they do."
— Come To Light
فَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ So We saved him وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ and his family أَجْمَعِينَ all ١٧٠
So We saved him and his family, all,
— Come To Light
إِلَّا Except عَجُوزًۭا an old woman فِى (was) among ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ those who remained behind ١٧١
Except an old woman among those who remained behind.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then دَمَّرْنَا We destroyed ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ the others ١٧٢
Then We destroyed the others.
— Come To Light
وَأَمْطَرْنَا And We rained عَلَيْهِم upon them مَّطَرًۭا ۖ a rain فَسَآءَ and evil was مَطَرُ (was) the rain ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ (on) those who were warned ١٧٣
And We rained upon them a rain [of stones], and evil was the rain of those who were warned.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely is a sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ١٧٤
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely, He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ١٧٥
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
— Come To Light
كَذَّبَ Denied أَصْحَـٰبُ (the) companions لْـَٔيْكَةِ (of the) Wood ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers ١٧٦
The companions of the thicket [i.e., the people of Madyan] denied the messengers
— Come To Light
إِذْ When قَالَ said لَهُمْ to them شُعَيْبٌ Shuaib أَلَا Will not تَتَّقُونَ you fear (Allah) ١٧٧
When Shuʿayb said to them, "Will you not fear Allāh?
— Come To Light
إِنِّى Indeed, I am لَكُمْ to you رَسُولٌ a Messenger أَمِينٌۭ trustworthy ١٧٨
Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.
— Come To Light
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ So fear ٱللَّهَ Allah وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ١٧٩
So fear Allāh and obey me.
— Come To Light
وَمَآ And not أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ I ask (of) you عَلَيْهِ for it مِنْ any أَجْرٍ ۖ payment إِنْ Not أَجْرِىَ (is) my payment إِلَّا except عَلَىٰ from رَبِّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ١٨٠
And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
— Come To Light
۞ أَوْفُوا۟ Give full ٱلْكَيْلَ measure وَلَا and (do) not تَكُونُوا۟ be مِنَ of ٱلْمُخْسِرِينَ those who cause loss ١٨١
Give full measure and do not be of those who cause loss.
— Come To Light
وَزِنُوا۟ And weigh بِٱلْقِسْطَاسِ with a balance ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِ [the] even ١٨٢
And weigh with an even [i.e., honest] balance.
— Come To Light
وَلَا And (do) not تَبْخَسُوا۟ deprive ٱلنَّاسَ people أَشْيَآءَهُمْ (of) their things وَلَا and (do) not تَعْثَوْا۟ commit evil فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth مُفْسِدِينَ spreading corruption ١٨٣
And do not deprive people of their due and do not commit abuse on earth, spreading corruption.
— Come To Light
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ And fear ٱلَّذِى the One Who خَلَقَكُمْ created you وَٱلْجِبِلَّةَ and the generations ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ the former ١٨٤
And fear He who created you and the former creation."
— Come To Light
قَالُوٓا۟ They said إِنَّمَآ Only أَنتَ you مِنَ (are) of ٱلْمُسَحَّرِينَ those bewitched ١٨٥
They said, "You are only of those affected by magic.
— Come To Light
وَمَآ And not أَنتَ you إِلَّا (are) except بَشَرٌۭ a man مِّثْلُنَا like us وَإِن and indeed نَّظُنُّكَ we think you لَمِنَ surely (are) of ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ the liars ١٨٦
You are but a man like ourselves, and indeed, we think you are among the liars.
— Come To Light
فَأَسْقِطْ Then cause to fall عَلَيْنَا upon us كِسَفًۭا fragments مِّنَ of ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky إِن if كُنتَ you are مِنَ of ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ the truthful ١٨٧
So cause to fall upon us fragments of the sky, if you should be of the truthful."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said رَبِّىٓ My Lord أَعْلَمُ knows best بِمَا of what تَعْمَلُونَ you do ١٨٨
He said, "My Lord is most knowing of what you do."
— Come To Light
فَكَذَّبُوهُ But they denied him فَأَخَذَهُمْ so seized them عَذَابُ (the) punishment يَوْمِ (of the) day ٱلظُّلَّةِ ۚ (of) the shadow إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, it كَانَ was عَذَابَ (the) punishment يَوْمٍ (of) a Day عَظِيمٍ Great ١٨٩
And they denied him, so the punishment of the day of the black cloud seized them. Indeed, it was the punishment of a terrible day.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ ۖ surely, is a sign وَمَا but not كَانَ are أَكْثَرُهُم most of them مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers ١٩٠
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَهُوَ surely, He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ١٩١
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّهُۥ And indeed, it لَتَنزِيلُ surely, is a Revelation رَبِّ (of the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ١٩٢
And indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is the revelation of the Lord of the worlds.
— Come To Light
نَزَلَ Has brought it down بِهِ Has brought it down ٱلرُّوحُ the Spirit ٱلْأَمِينُ [the] Trustworthy ١٩٣
The Trustworthy Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] has brought it down
— Come To Light
عَلَىٰ Upon قَلْبِكَ your heart لِتَكُونَ that you may be مِنَ of ٱلْمُنذِرِينَ the warners ١٩٤
Upon your heart, [O Muḥammad] - that you may be of the warners -
— Come To Light
بِلِسَانٍ In language عَرَبِىٍّۢ Arabic مُّبِينٍۢ clear ١٩٥
In a clear Arabic language.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّهُۥ And indeed, it لَفِى surely, (is) in زُبُرِ (the) Scriptures ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) the former (people) ١٩٦
And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples.
— Come To Light
أَوَلَمْ Is it not يَكُن Is it not لَّهُمْ to them ءَايَةً a sign أَن that يَعْلَمَهُۥ know it عُلَمَـٰٓؤُا۟ (the) scholars بَنِىٓ (of the) Children إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (of) Israel ١٩٧
And has it not been a sign to them that it is recognized by the scholars of the Children of Israel?
— Come To Light
وَلَوْ And if نَزَّلْنَـٰهُ We (had) revealed it عَلَىٰ to بَعْضِ any ٱلْأَعْجَمِينَ (of) the non-Arabs ١٩٨
And even if We had revealed it to one among the foreigners
— Come To Light
فَقَرَأَهُۥ And he (had) recited it عَلَيْهِم to them مَّا not كَانُوا۟ they would بِهِۦ in it مُؤْمِنِينَ (be) believers ١٩٩
And he had recited it to them [perfectly], they would [still] not have been believers in it.
— Come To Light
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus سَلَكْنَـٰهُ We have inserted it فِى into قُلُوبِ (the) hearts ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ (of) the criminals ٢٠٠
Thus have We inserted it [i.e., disbelief] into the hearts of the criminals.
— Come To Light
لَا Not يُؤْمِنُونَ they will believe بِهِۦ in it حَتَّىٰ until يَرَوُا۟ they see ٱلْعَذَابَ the punishment ٱلْأَلِيمَ [the] painful ٢٠١
They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment.
— Come To Light
فَيَأْتِيَهُم And it will come to them بَغْتَةًۭ suddenly وَهُمْ while they لَا (do) not يَشْعُرُونَ perceive ٢٠٢
And it will come to them suddenly while they perceive [it] not.
— Come To Light
فَيَقُولُوا۟ Then they will say هَلْ Are نَحْنُ we مُنظَرُونَ (to be) reprieved ٢٠٣
And they will say, "May we be reprieved?"
— Come To Light
أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا So is it for Our punishment يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ they wish to hasten ٢٠٤
So for Our punishment are they impatient?
— Come To Light
أَفَرَءَيْتَ Then have you seen إِن if مَّتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ We let them enjoy سِنِينَ (for) years ٢٠٥
Then have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then جَآءَهُم comes to them مَّا what كَانُوا۟ they were يُوعَدُونَ promised ٢٠٦
And then there came to them that which they were promised?
— Come To Light
مَآ Not أَغْنَىٰ (will) avail عَنْهُم them مَّا what كَانُوا۟ enjoyment they were given يُمَتَّعُونَ enjoyment they were given ٢٠٧
They would not be availed by the enjoyment with which they were provided.
— Come To Light
وَمَآ And not أَهْلَكْنَا We destroyed مِن any قَرْيَةٍ town إِلَّا but لَهَا it had مُنذِرُونَ warners ٢٠٨
And We did not destroy any city except that it had warners
— Come To Light
ذِكْرَىٰ (To) remind وَمَا and not كُنَّا We are ظَـٰلِمِينَ unjust ٢٠٩
As a reminder; and never have We been unjust.
— Come To Light
وَمَا And not تَنَزَّلَتْ have brought it down بِهِ have brought it down ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينُ the devils ٢١٠
And the devils have not brought it [i.e., the revelation] down.
— Come To Light
وَمَا And not يَنۢبَغِى (it) suits لَهُمْ [for] them وَمَا and not يَسْتَطِيعُونَ they are able ٢١١
It is not allowable for them, nor would they be able.
— Come To Light
إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they عَنِ from ٱلسَّمْعِ the hearing لَمَعْزُولُونَ (are) surely banished ٢١٢
Indeed they, from [its] hearing, are removed.
— Come To Light
فَلَا So (do) not تَدْعُ invoke مَعَ with ٱللَّهِ Allah إِلَـٰهًا god ءَاخَرَ another فَتَكُونَ lest you be مِنَ of ٱلْمُعَذَّبِينَ those punished ٢١٣
So do not invoke with Allāh another deity and [thus] be among the punished.
— Come To Light
وَأَنذِرْ And warn عَشِيرَتَكَ your kindred ٱلْأَقْرَبِينَ [the] closest ٢١٤
And warn, [O Muḥammad], your closest kindred.
— Come To Light
وَٱخْفِضْ And lower جَنَاحَكَ your wing لِمَنِ to (those) who ٱتَّبَعَكَ follow you مِنَ of ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers ٢١٥
And lower your wing [i.e., show kindness] to those who follow you of the believers.
— Come To Light
فَإِنْ Then if عَصَوْكَ they disobey you فَقُلْ then say إِنِّى Indeed, I am بَرِىٓءٌۭ innocent مِّمَّا of what تَعْمَلُونَ you do ٢١٦
And if they disobey you, then say, "Indeed, I am disassociated from what you are doing."
— Come To Light
وَتَوَكَّلْ And put (your) trust عَلَى in ٱلْعَزِيزِ the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمِ the Most Merciful ٢١٧
And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,
— Come To Light
ٱلَّذِى The One Who يَرَىٰكَ sees you حِينَ when تَقُومُ you stand up ٢١٨
Who sees you when you arise
— Come To Light
وَتَقَلُّبَكَ And your movements فِى among ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ those who prostrate ٢١٩
And your movement among those who prostrate.
— Come To Light
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He هُوَ [He] ٱلسَّمِيعُ (is) the All-Hearer ٱلْعَلِيمُ the All-Knower ٢٢٠
Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
— Come To Light
