29. Surah Al-'Ankabut
The Spider · Makki · 69 Ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
أَحَسِبَ Do think ٱلنَّاسُ the people أَن that يُتْرَكُوٓا۟ they will be left أَن because يَقُولُوٓا۟ they say ءَامَنَّا We believe وَهُمْ and they لَا will not be tested يُفْتَنُونَ will not be tested ٢
Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried?
— Come To Light
وَلَقَدْ And indeed فَتَنَّا We tested ٱلَّذِينَ those who مِن (were) before them قَبْلِهِمْ ۖ (were) before them فَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ And Allah will surely make evident ٱللَّهُ And Allah will surely make evident ٱلَّذِينَ those who صَدَقُوا۟ (are) truthful وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ and He will surely make evident ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ the liars ٣
But We have certainly tried those before them, and Allāh will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars.
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or حَسِبَ think ٱلَّذِينَ those who يَعْمَلُونَ do ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ evil deeds أَن that يَسْبِقُونَا ۚ they can outrun Us سَآءَ Evil is مَا what يَحْكُمُونَ they judge ٤
Or do those who do evil deeds think they can outrun [i.e., escape] Us? Evil is what they judge.
— Come To Light
مَن Whoever كَانَ [is] يَرْجُوا۟ hopes لِقَآءَ (for the) meeting ٱللَّهِ (with) Allah فَإِنَّ then indeed أَجَلَ (the) Term ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah لَـَٔاتٍۢ ۚ (is) surely coming وَهُوَ And He ٱلسَّمِيعُ (is) the All-Hearer ٱلْعَلِيمُ the All-Knower ٥
Whoever should hope for the meeting with Allāh - indeed, the term [decreed by] Allāh is coming. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
— Come To Light
وَمَن And whoever جَـٰهَدَ strives فَإِنَّمَا then only يُجَـٰهِدُ he strives لِنَفْسِهِۦٓ ۚ for himself إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah لَغَنِىٌّ (is) Free from need عَنِ of ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ the worlds ٦
And whoever strives only strives for [the benefit of] himself. Indeed, Allāh is Free from need of the worlds.
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous (deeds) لَنُكَفِّرَنَّ surely, We will remove عَنْهُمْ from them سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ their evil deeds وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ and We will surely reward them أَحْسَنَ (the) best ٱلَّذِى (of) what كَانُوا۟ they used يَعْمَلُونَ (to) do ٧
And those who believe and do righteous deeds - We will surely remove from them their misdeeds and will surely reward them according to the best of what they used to do.
— Come To Light
وَوَصَّيْنَا And We have enjoined ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ (on) man بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ goodness to his parents حُسْنًۭا ۖ goodness to his parents وَإِن but if جَـٰهَدَاكَ they both strive against you لِتُشْرِكَ to make you associate بِى with Me مَا what لَيْسَ not لَكَ you have بِهِۦ of it عِلْمٌۭ any knowledge فَلَا then (do) not تُطِعْهُمَآ ۚ obey both of them إِلَىَّ To Me مَرْجِعُكُمْ (is) your return فَأُنَبِّئُكُم and I will inform you بِمَا about what كُنتُمْ you used تَعْمَلُونَ (to) do ٨
And We have enjoined upon man goodness to parents. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them. To Me is your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds لَنُدْخِلَنَّهُمْ We will surely admit them فِى among ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ the righteous ٩
And those who believe and do righteous deeds - We will surely admit them among the righteous [into Paradise].
— Come To Light
وَمِنَ And of ٱلنَّاسِ the people مَن (is he) who يَقُولُ says ءَامَنَّا We believe بِٱللَّهِ in Allah فَإِذَآ But when أُوذِىَ he is harmed فِى in ٱللَّهِ (the Way of) Allah جَعَلَ he considers فِتْنَةَ (the) trial ٱلنَّاسِ (of) the people كَعَذَابِ as (the) punishment ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah وَلَئِن But if جَآءَ comes نَصْرٌۭ victory مِّن from رَّبِّكَ your Lord لَيَقُولُنَّ surely they say إِنَّا Indeed, we كُنَّا were مَعَكُمْ ۚ with you أَوَلَيْسَ Is not ٱللَّهُ Allah بِأَعْلَمَ most knowing بِمَا of what فِى (is) in صُدُورِ (the) breasts ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ١٠
And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allāh," but when one [of them] is harmed for [the cause of] Allāh, he considers the trial [i.e., harm] of the people as [if it were] the punishment of Allāh. But if victory comes from your Lord, they say, "Indeed, We were with you." Is not Allāh most knowing of what is within the breasts of the worlds [i.e., all creatures]?
— Come To Light
وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ And Allah will surely make evident ٱللَّهُ And Allah will surely make evident ٱلَّذِينَ those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ And He will surely make evident ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ the hypocrites ١١
And Allāh will surely make evident those who believe, and He will surely make evident the hypocrites.
— Come To Light
وَقَالَ And said ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve لِلَّذِينَ to those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ Follow سَبِيلَنَا our way وَلْنَحْمِلْ and we will carry خَطَـٰيَـٰكُمْ your sins وَمَا But not هُم they بِحَـٰمِلِينَ (are) going to carry مِنْ of خَطَـٰيَـٰهُم their sins مِّن any شَىْءٍ ۖ thing إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they لَكَـٰذِبُونَ (are) surely liars ١٢
And those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Follow our way, and we will carry your sins." But they will not carry anything of their sins. Indeed, they are liars.
— Come To Light
وَلَيَحْمِلُنَّ But surely they will carry أَثْقَالَهُمْ their burdens وَأَثْقَالًۭا and burdens مَّعَ with أَثْقَالِهِمْ ۖ their burdens وَلَيُسْـَٔلُنَّ and surely they will be questioned يَوْمَ (on the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection عَمَّا about what كَانُوا۟ they used يَفْتَرُونَ (to) invent ١٣
But they will surely carry their [own] burdens and [other] burdens along with their burdens, and they will surely be questioned on the Day of Resurrection about what they used to invent.
— Come To Light
وَلَقَدْ And verily أَرْسَلْنَا We sent نُوحًا Nuh إِلَىٰ to قَوْمِهِۦ his people فَلَبِثَ and he remained فِيهِمْ among them أَلْفَ a thousand سَنَةٍ year(s) إِلَّا save خَمْسِينَ fifty عَامًۭا year(s) فَأَخَذَهُمُ then seized them ٱلطُّوفَانُ the flood وَهُمْ while they ظَـٰلِمُونَ (were) wrongdoers ١٤
And We certainly sent Noah to his people, and he remained among them a thousand years minus fifty years, and the flood seized them while they were wrongdoers.
— Come To Light
فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ But We saved him وَأَصْحَـٰبَ and (the) people ٱلسَّفِينَةِ (of) the ship وَجَعَلْنَـٰهَآ and We made it ءَايَةًۭ a Sign لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ for the worlds ١٥
But We saved him and the companions of the ship, and We made it a sign for the worlds.
— Come To Light
وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ And Ibrahim إِذْ when قَالَ he said لِقَوْمِهِ to his people ٱعْبُدُوا۟ Worship ٱللَّهَ Allah وَٱتَّقُوهُ ۖ and fear Him ذَٰلِكُمْ That خَيْرٌۭ (is) better لَّكُمْ for you إِن if كُنتُمْ you تَعْلَمُونَ know ١٦
And [We sent] Abraham, when he said to his people, "Worship Allāh and fear Him. That is best for you, if you should know.
— Come To Light
إِنَّمَا Only تَعْبُدُونَ you worship مِن besides دُونِ besides ٱللَّهِ Allah أَوْثَـٰنًۭا idols وَتَخْلُقُونَ and you create إِفْكًا ۚ falsehood إِنَّ Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those whom تَعْبُدُونَ you worship مِن besides دُونِ besides ٱللَّهِ Allah لَا (do) not يَمْلِكُونَ possess لَكُمْ for you رِزْقًۭا any provision فَٱبْتَغُوا۟ So seek عِندَ from ٱللَّهِ Allah ٱلرِّزْقَ the provision وَٱعْبُدُوهُ and worship Him وَٱشْكُرُوا۟ and be grateful لَهُۥٓ ۖ to Him إِلَيْهِ To Him تُرْجَعُونَ you will be returned ١٧
You only worship, besides Allāh, idols, and you produce a falsehood. Indeed, those you worship besides Allāh do not possess for you [the power of] provision. So seek from Allāh provision and worship Him and be grateful to Him. To Him you will be returned."
— Come To Light
وَإِن And if تُكَذِّبُوا۟ you deny فَقَدْ then verily كَذَّبَ denied أُمَمٌۭ (the) nations مِّن before you قَبْلِكُمْ ۖ before you وَمَا And not عَلَى (is) on ٱلرَّسُولِ the Messenger إِلَّا except ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ the conveyance ٱلْمُبِينُ clear ١٨
And if you [people] deny [the message] - already nations before you have denied. And there is not upon the Messenger except [the duty of] clear notification.
— Come To Light
أَوَلَمْ Do not يَرَوْا۟ they see كَيْفَ how يُبْدِئُ Allah originates ٱللَّهُ Allah originates ٱلْخَلْقَ the creation ثُمَّ then يُعِيدُهُۥٓ ۚ repeats it إِنَّ Indeed ذَٰلِكَ that عَلَى for ٱللَّهِ Allah يَسِيرٌۭ (is) easy ١٩
Have they not considered how Allāh begins creation and then repeats it? Indeed that, for Allāh, is easy.
— Come To Light
قُلْ Say سِيرُوا۟ Travel فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth فَٱنظُرُوا۟ and see كَيْفَ how بَدَأَ He originated ٱلْخَلْقَ ۚ the creation ثُمَّ Then ٱللَّهُ Allah يُنشِئُ will produce ٱلنَّشْأَةَ the creation ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۚ the last إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah عَلَىٰ on كُلِّ every شَىْءٍۢ thing قَدِيرٌۭ (is) All-Powerful ٢٠
Say, [O Muḥammad], "Travel through the land and observe how He began creation. Then Allāh will produce the final creation [i.e., development]. Indeed Allāh, over all things, is competent."
— Come To Light
يُعَذِّبُ He punishes مَن whom يَشَآءُ He wills وَيَرْحَمُ and has mercy مَن (on) whom يَشَآءُ ۖ He wills وَإِلَيْهِ and to Him تُقْلَبُونَ you will be returned ٢١
He punishes whom He wills and has mercy upon whom He wills, and to Him you will be returned.
— Come To Light
وَمَآ And not أَنتُم you بِمُعْجِزِينَ can escape فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth وَلَا and not فِى in ٱلسَّمَآءِ ۖ the heaven وَمَا And not لَكُم for you مِّن besides دُونِ besides ٱللَّهِ Allah مِن any وَلِىٍّۢ protector وَلَا and not نَصِيرٍۢ a helper ٢٢
And you will not cause failure [to Allāh] upon the earth or in the heaven. And you have not other than Allāh any protector or any helper.
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve بِـَٔايَـٰتِ in (the) Signs ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah وَلِقَآئِهِۦٓ and (the) meeting (with) Him أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those يَئِسُوا۟ (have) despaired مِن of رَّحْمَتِى My Mercy وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ And those لَهُمْ for them عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment أَلِيمٌۭ painful ٢٣
And the ones who disbelieve in the signs of Allāh and the meeting with Him - those have despaired of My mercy, and they will have a painful punishment.
— Come To Light
فَمَا And not كَانَ was جَوَابَ (the) answer قَوْمِهِۦٓ (of) his people إِلَّآ except أَن that قَالُوا۟ they said ٱقْتُلُوهُ Kill him أَوْ or حَرِّقُوهُ burn him فَأَنجَىٰهُ But Allah saved him ٱللَّهُ But Allah saved him مِنَ from ٱلنَّارِ ۚ the fire إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people يُؤْمِنُونَ who believe ٢٤
And the answer of his [i.e., Abraham's] people was not but that they said, "Kill him or burn him," but Allāh saved him from the fire. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.
— Come To Light
وَقَالَ And he said إِنَّمَا Only ٱتَّخَذْتُم you have taken مِّن besides دُونِ besides ٱللَّهِ Allah أَوْثَـٰنًۭا idols مَّوَدَّةَ (out of) love بَيْنِكُمْ among you فِى in ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ the life ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ (of) the world ثُمَّ Then يَوْمَ (on the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection يَكْفُرُ you will deny بَعْضُكُم one another بِبَعْضٍۢ one another وَيَلْعَنُ and curse بَعْضُكُم one another بَعْضًۭا one another وَمَأْوَىٰكُمُ and your abode ٱلنَّارُ (will be) the Fire وَمَا and not لَكُم for you مِّن any نَّـٰصِرِينَ helpers ٢٥
And [Abraham] said, "You have only taken, other than Allāh, idols as [a bond of] affection among you in worldly life. Then on the Day of Resurrection you will deny one another and curse one another, and your refuge will be the Fire, and you will not have any helpers."
— Come To Light
۞ فَـَٔامَنَ And believed لَهُۥ [in] him لُوطٌۭ ۘ Lut وَقَالَ and he said إِنِّى Indeed I (am) مُهَاجِرٌ emigrating إِلَىٰ to رَبِّىٓ ۖ my Lord إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He هُوَ [He] (is) ٱلْعَزِيزُ the All-Mighty ٱلْحَكِيمُ the All-Wise ٢٦
And Lot believed him. [Abraham] said, "Indeed, I will emigrate to [the service of] my Lord. Indeed, He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise."
— Come To Light
وَوَهَبْنَا And We granted لَهُۥٓ to him إِسْحَـٰقَ Isaac وَيَعْقُوبَ and Yaqub وَجَعَلْنَا and We placed فِى in ذُرِّيَّتِهِ his offsprings ٱلنُّبُوَّةَ the Prophethood وَٱلْكِتَـٰبَ and the Book وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ And We gave him أَجْرَهُۥ his reward فِى in ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ the world وَإِنَّهُۥ And indeed, he فِى in ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ the Hereafter لَمِنَ (is) surely, among ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ the righteous ٢٧
And We gave to him Isaac and Jacob and placed in his descendants prophethood and scripture. And We gave him his reward in this world, and indeed, he is in the Hereafter among the righteous.
— Come To Light
وَلُوطًا And Lut إِذْ when قَالَ he said لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ to his people إِنَّكُمْ Indeed, you لَتَأْتُونَ commit ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةَ the immorality مَا not سَبَقَكُم has preceded you بِهَا with it مِنْ any أَحَدٍۢ one مِّنَ from ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ the worlds ٢٨
And [mention] Lot, when he said to his people, "Indeed, you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds.
— Come To Light
أَئِنَّكُمْ Indeed, you لَتَأْتُونَ approach ٱلرِّجَالَ the men وَتَقْطَعُونَ and you cut off ٱلسَّبِيلَ the road وَتَأْتُونَ and commit فِى in نَادِيكُمُ your meetings ٱلْمُنكَرَ ۖ evil فَمَا And not كَانَ was جَوَابَ (the) answer قَوْمِهِۦٓ (of) his people إِلَّآ except أَن that قَالُوا۟ they said ٱئْتِنَا Bring upon us بِعَذَابِ (the) punishment ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah إِن if كُنتَ you are مِنَ of ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ the truthful ٢٩
Indeed, you approach men and obstruct the road and commit in your meetings [every] evil." And the answer of his people was not but that they said, "Bring us the punishment of Allāh, if you should be of the truthful."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said رَبِّ My Lord ٱنصُرْنِى Help me عَلَى against ٱلْقَوْمِ the people ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ the corrupters ٣٠
He said, "My Lord, support me against the corrupting people."
— Come To Light
وَلَمَّا And when جَآءَتْ came رُسُلُنَآ Our messengers إِبْرَٰهِيمَ (to) Ibrahim بِٱلْبُشْرَىٰ with the glad tidings قَالُوٓا۟ they said إِنَّا Indeed, we مُهْلِكُوٓا۟ (are) going to destroy أَهْلِ (the) people هَـٰذِهِ (of) this ٱلْقَرْيَةِ ۖ town إِنَّ Indeed أَهْلَهَا its people كَانُوا۟ are ظَـٰلِمِينَ wrongdoers ٣١
And when Our messengers [i.e., angels] came to Abraham with the good tidings, they said, "Indeed, we will destroy the people of that [i.e., Lot's] city. Indeed, its people have been wrongdoers."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said إِنَّ Indeed فِيهَا in it لُوطًۭا ۚ (is) Lut قَالُوا۟ They said نَحْنُ We أَعْلَمُ know better بِمَن who فِيهَا ۖ (is) in it لَنُنَجِّيَنَّهُۥ We will surely save him وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ and his family إِلَّا except ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ his wife كَانَتْ She مِنَ (is) of ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ those who remain behind ٣٢
[Abraham] said, "Indeed, within it is Lot." They said, "We are more knowing of who is within it. We will surely save him and his family, except his wife. She is to be of those who remain behind."
— Come To Light
وَلَمَّآ And when أَن [that] جَآءَتْ came رُسُلُنَا Our messengers لُوطًۭا (to) Lut سِىٓءَ he was distressed بِهِمْ for them وَضَاقَ and felt straitened بِهِمْ for them ذَرْعًۭا (and) uneasy وَقَالُوا۟ And they said لَا (Do) not تَخَفْ fear وَلَا and (do) not تَحْزَنْ ۖ grieve إِنَّا Indeed, we مُنَجُّوكَ (will) save you وَأَهْلَكَ and your family إِلَّا except ٱمْرَأَتَكَ your wife كَانَتْ She مِنَ (is) of ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ those who remain behind ٣٣
And when Our messengers [i.e., angels] came to Lot, he was distressed for them and felt for them great discomfort. They said, "Fear not, nor grieve. Indeed, we will save you and your family, except your wife; she is to be of those who remain behind.
— Come To Light
إِنَّا Indeed, we مُنزِلُونَ (will) bring down عَلَىٰٓ on أَهْلِ (the) people هَـٰذِهِ (of) this ٱلْقَرْيَةِ town رِجْزًۭا a punishment مِّنَ from ٱلسَّمَآءِ (the) sky بِمَا because كَانُوا۟ they have been يَفْسُقُونَ defiantly disobedient ٣٤
Indeed, we will bring down on the people of this city punishment from the sky because they have been defiantly disobedient."
— Come To Light
وَلَقَد And verily تَّرَكْنَا We have left مِنْهَآ about it ءَايَةًۢ a sign بَيِّنَةًۭ (as) evidence لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people يَعْقِلُونَ who use reason ٣٥
And We have certainly left of it a sign as clear evidence for a people who use reason.
— Come To Light
وَإِلَىٰ And to مَدْيَنَ Madyan أَخَاهُمْ their brother شُعَيْبًۭا Shuaib فَقَالَ And he said يَـٰقَوْمِ O my people ٱعْبُدُوا۟ Worship ٱللَّهَ Allah وَٱرْجُوا۟ and expect ٱلْيَوْمَ the Day ٱلْـَٔاخِرَ the Last وَلَا and (do) not تَعْثَوْا۟ commit evil فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth مُفْسِدِينَ (as) corrupters ٣٦
And to Madyan [We sent] their brother Shuʿayb, and he said, "O my people, worship Allāh and expect the Last Day and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption."
— Come To Light
فَكَذَّبُوهُ But they denied him فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ so seized them ٱلرَّجْفَةُ the earthquake فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ and they became فِى in دَارِهِمْ their home جَـٰثِمِينَ fallen prone ٣٧
But they denied him, so the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone.
— Come To Light
وَعَادًۭا And Aad وَثَمُودَا۟ and Thamud وَقَد and verily تَّبَيَّنَ (has) become clear لَكُم to you مِّن from مَّسَـٰكِنِهِمْ ۖ their dwellings وَزَيَّنَ And made fair-seeming لَهُمُ to them ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ the Shaitaan أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ their deeds فَصَدَّهُمْ and averted them عَنِ from ٱلسَّبِيلِ the Way وَكَانُوا۟ though they were مُسْتَبْصِرِينَ endowed with insight ٣٨
And [We destroyed] ʿAad and Thamūd, and it has become clear to you from their [ruined] dwellings. And Satan had made pleasing to them their deeds and averted them from the path, and they were endowed with perception.
— Come To Light
وَقَـٰرُونَ And Qarun وَفِرْعَوْنَ and Firaun وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ ۖ and Haman وَلَقَدْ And certainly جَآءَهُم came to them مُّوسَىٰ Musa بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ with clear evidences فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ but they were arrogant فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth وَمَا and not كَانُوا۟ they could سَـٰبِقِينَ outstrip Us ٣٩
And [We destroyed] Qārūn and Pharaoh and Hāmān. And Moses had already come to them with clear evidences, and they were arrogant in the land, but they were not outrunners [of Our punishment].
— Come To Light
فَكُلًّا So each أَخَذْنَا We seized بِذَنۢبِهِۦ ۖ for his sin فَمِنْهُم Then of them مَّنْ (was he) who أَرْسَلْنَا We sent عَلَيْهِ on him حَاصِبًۭا a violent storm وَمِنْهُم and of them مَّنْ (was he) who أَخَذَتْهُ seized him ٱلصَّيْحَةُ the awful cry وَمِنْهُم and of them مَّنْ (was he) who خَسَفْنَا We caused to swallow بِهِ him ٱلْأَرْضَ the earth وَمِنْهُم and of them مَّنْ (was he) who أَغْرَقْنَا ۚ We drowned وَمَا And not كَانَ was ٱللَّهُ Allah لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ to wrong them وَلَـٰكِن but كَانُوٓا۟ they were أَنفُسَهُمْ themselves يَظْلِمُونَ doing wrong ٤٠
So each We seized for his sin; and among them were those upon whom We sent a storm of stones, and among them were those who were seized by the blast [from the sky], and among them were those whom We caused the earth to swallow, and among them were those whom We drowned. And Allāh would not have wronged them, but it was they who were wronging themselves.
— Come To Light
مَثَلُ (The) example ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ take مِن besides دُونِ besides ٱللَّهِ Allah أَوْلِيَآءَ protectors كَمَثَلِ (is) like ٱلْعَنكَبُوتِ the spider ٱتَّخَذَتْ who takes بَيْتًۭا ۖ a house وَإِنَّ And indeed أَوْهَنَ the weakest ٱلْبُيُوتِ (of) houses لَبَيْتُ (is) surely (the) house ٱلْعَنكَبُوتِ ۖ (of) the spider لَوْ if (only) كَانُوا۟ they يَعْلَمُونَ know ٤١
The example of those who take allies other than Allāh is like that of the spider who takes [i.e., constructs] a home. And indeed, the weakest of homes is the home of the spider, if they only knew.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah يَعْلَمُ knows مَا what يَدْعُونَ they invoke مِن besides Him دُونِهِۦ besides Him مِن any شَىْءٍۢ ۚ thing وَهُوَ And He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلْحَكِيمُ the All-Wise ٤٢
Indeed, Allāh knows whatever thing they call upon other than Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
— Come To Light
وَتِلْكَ And these ٱلْأَمْثَـٰلُ examples نَضْرِبُهَا We set forth لِلنَّاسِ ۖ to mankind وَمَا but not يَعْقِلُهَآ will understand them إِلَّا except ٱلْعَـٰلِمُونَ those of knowledge ٤٣
And these examples We present to the people, but none will understand them except those of knowledge.
— Come To Light
خَلَقَ Allah created ٱللَّهُ Allah created ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ in truth إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَةًۭ (is) surely a Sign لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ for the believers ٤٤
Allāh created the heavens and the earth in truth. Indeed in that is a sign for the believers.
— Come To Light
ٱتْلُ Recite مَآ what أُوحِىَ has been revealed إِلَيْكَ to you مِنَ of ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ the Book وَأَقِمِ and establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ ۖ the prayer إِنَّ Indeed ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer تَنْهَىٰ prevents عَنِ from ٱلْفَحْشَآءِ the immorality وَٱلْمُنكَرِ ۗ and evil deeds وَلَذِكْرُ and surely (the) remembrance ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah أَكْبَرُ ۗ (is) greatest وَٱللَّهُ And Allah يَعْلَمُ knows مَا what تَصْنَعُونَ you do ٤٥
Recite, [O Muḥammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allāh is greater. And Allāh knows that which you do.
— Come To Light
۞ وَلَا And (do) not تُجَـٰدِلُوٓا۟ argue أَهْلَ (with the) People of the Book ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (with the) People of the Book إِلَّا except بِٱلَّتِى by which هِىَ [it] أَحْسَنُ (is) best إِلَّا except ٱلَّذِينَ those who ظَلَمُوا۟ (do) wrong مِنْهُمْ ۖ among them وَقُولُوٓا۟ and say ءَامَنَّا We believe بِٱلَّذِىٓ in that (which) أُنزِلَ has been revealed إِلَيْنَا to us وَأُنزِلَ and was revealed إِلَيْكُمْ to you وَإِلَـٰهُنَا And our God وَإِلَـٰهُكُمْ and your God وَٰحِدٌۭ (is) One وَنَحْنُ and we لَهُۥ to Him مُسْلِمُونَ submit ٤٦
And do not argue with the People of the Scripture except in a way that is best, except for those who commit injustice among them, and say, "We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you. And our God and your God is one; and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."
— Come To Light
وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus أَنزَلْنَآ We (have) revealed إِلَيْكَ to you ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ۚ the Book فَٱلَّذِينَ So those ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ We gave [them] ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book يُؤْمِنُونَ believe بِهِۦ ۖ therein وَمِنْ And among هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ these مَن (are some) who يُؤْمِنُ believe بِهِۦ ۚ therein وَمَا And none يَجْحَدُ reject بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ Our Verses إِلَّا except ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ the disbelievers ٤٧
And thus We have sent down to you the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān]. And those to whom We [previously] gave the Scripture believe in it. And among these [people of Makkah] are those who believe in it. And none reject Our verses except the disbelievers.
— Come To Light
وَمَا And not كُنتَ (did) you تَتْلُوا۟ recite مِن before it قَبْلِهِۦ before it مِن any كِتَـٰبٍۢ Book وَلَا and not تَخُطُّهُۥ (did) you write it بِيَمِينِكَ ۖ with your right hand إِذًۭا in that case لَّٱرْتَابَ surely (would) have doubted ٱلْمُبْطِلُونَ the falsifiers ٤٨
And you did not recite before it any scripture, nor did you inscribe one with your right hand. Then [i.e., otherwise] the falsifiers would have had [cause for] doubt.
— Come To Light
بَلْ Nay هُوَ it ءَايَـٰتٌۢ (is) Verses بَيِّنَـٰتٌۭ clear فِى in صُدُورِ (the) breasts ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who أُوتُوا۟ are given ٱلْعِلْمَ ۚ the knowledge وَمَا And not يَجْحَدُ reject بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ Our Verses إِلَّا except ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ the wrongdoers ٤٩
Rather, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is distinct verses [preserved] within the breasts of those who have been given knowledge. And none reject Our verses except the wrongdoers.
— Come To Light
وَقَالُوا۟ And they say لَوْلَآ Why not أُنزِلَ are sent down عَلَيْهِ to him ءَايَـٰتٌۭ (the) Signs مِّن from رَّبِّهِۦ ۖ his Lord قُلْ Say إِنَّمَا Only ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتُ the Signs عِندَ (are) with ٱللَّهِ Allah وَإِنَّمَآ and only أَنَا۠ I (am) نَذِيرٌۭ a warner مُّبِينٌ clear ٥٠
But they say, "Why are not signs sent down to him from his Lord?" Say, "The signs are only with Allāh, and I am only a clear warner."
— Come To Light
أَوَلَمْ And is (it) not يَكْفِهِمْ sufficient for them أَنَّآ that We أَنزَلْنَا revealed عَلَيْكَ to you ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book يُتْلَىٰ (which) is recited عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ to them إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَرَحْمَةًۭ surely is a mercy وَذِكْرَىٰ and a reminder لِقَوْمٍۢ for a people يُؤْمِنُونَ who believe ٥١
And is it not sufficient for them that We revealed to you the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] which is recited to them? Indeed in that is a mercy and reminder for a people who believe.
— Come To Light
قُلْ Say كَفَىٰ Sufficient is بِٱللَّهِ Allah بَيْنِى between me وَبَيْنَكُمْ and between you شَهِيدًۭا ۖ (as) a Witness يَعْلَمُ He knows مَا what فِى (is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ and the earth وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ in [the] falsehood وَكَفَرُوا۟ and disbelieve بِٱللَّهِ in Allah أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those هُمُ they ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ (are) the losers ٥٢
Say, "Sufficient is Allāh between me and you as Witness. He knows what is in the heavens and earth. And they who have believed in falsehood and disbelieved in Allāh - it is those who are the losers."
— Come To Light
وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ And they ask you to hasten بِٱلْعَذَابِ ۚ [with] the punishment وَلَوْلَآ And if not أَجَلٌۭ (for) a term مُّسَمًّۭى appointed لَّجَآءَهُمُ surely (would) have come to them ٱلْعَذَابُ the punishment وَلَيَأْتِيَنَّهُم But it will surely come to them بَغْتَةًۭ suddenly وَهُمْ while they لَا (do) not يَشْعُرُونَ perceive ٥٣
And they urge you to hasten the punishment. And if not for [the decree of] a specified term, punishment would have reached them. But it will surely come to them suddenly while they perceive not.
— Come To Light
يَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ They ask you to hasten بِٱلْعَذَابِ the punishment وَإِنَّ And indeed جَهَنَّمَ Hell لَمُحِيطَةٌۢ will surely, encompass بِٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers ٥٤
They urge you to hasten the punishment. And indeed, Hell will be encompassing of the disbelievers
— Come To Light
يَوْمَ On (the) Day يَغْشَىٰهُمُ will cover them ٱلْعَذَابُ the punishment مِن from فَوْقِهِمْ above them وَمِن and from تَحْتِ below أَرْجُلِهِمْ their feet وَيَقُولُ and He will say ذُوقُوا۟ Taste مَا what كُنتُمْ you used تَعْمَلُونَ (to) do ٥٥
On the Day the punishment will cover them from above them and from below their feet and it is said, "Taste [the result of] what you used to do."
— Come To Light
يَـٰعِبَادِىَ O My servants ٱلَّذِينَ who ءَامَنُوٓا۟ believe إِنَّ Indeed أَرْضِى My earth وَٰسِعَةٌۭ (is) spacious فَإِيَّـٰىَ so only فَٱعْبُدُونِ worship Me ٥٦
O My servants who have believed, indeed My earth is spacious, so worship only Me.
— Come To Light
كُلُّ Every نَفْسٍۢ soul ذَآئِقَةُ (will) taste ٱلْمَوْتِ ۖ the death ثُمَّ Then إِلَيْنَا to Us تُرْجَعُونَ you will be returned ٥٧
Every soul will taste death. Then to Us will you be returned.
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ [the] righteous deeds لَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُم surely We will give them a place مِّنَ in ٱلْجَنَّةِ Paradise غُرَفًۭا lofty dwellings تَجْرِى flow مِن from تَحْتِهَا underneath it ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ the rivers خَـٰلِدِينَ will abide forever فِيهَا ۚ in it نِعْمَ Excellent is أَجْرُ (the) reward ٱلْعَـٰمِلِينَ (of) the workers ٥٨
And those who have believed and done righteous deeds - We will surely assign to them of Paradise [elevated] chambers beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. Excellent is the reward of the [righteous] workers
— Come To Light
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who صَبَرُوا۟ (are) patient وَعَلَىٰ and upon رَبِّهِمْ their Lord يَتَوَكَّلُونَ put their trust ٥٩
Who have been patient and upon their Lord rely.
— Come To Light
وَكَأَيِّن And how many مِّن of دَآبَّةٍۢ a creature لَّا (does) not تَحْمِلُ carry رِزْقَهَا its provision ٱللَّهُ Allah يَرْزُقُهَا provides (for) it وَإِيَّاكُمْ ۚ and (for) you وَهُوَ And He ٱلسَّمِيعُ (is) the All-Hearer ٱلْعَلِيمُ the All-Knower ٦٠
And how many a creature carries not its [own] provision. Allāh provides for it and for you. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
— Come To Light
