فَتَعَـٰلَى So high (above all) ٱللَّهُ (is) Allah ٱلْمَلِكُ the King ٱلْحَقُّ ۗ the True وَلَا And (do) not تَعْجَلْ hasten بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ with the Quran مِن before قَبْلِ before أَن [that] يُقْضَىٰٓ is completed إِلَيْكَ to you وَحْيُهُۥ ۖ its revelation وَقُل and say رَّبِّ My Lord زِدْنِى Increase me عِلْمًۭا (in) knowledge ١١٤

So high [above all] is Allāh, the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muḥammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur’ān before its revelation is completed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."

— Come To Light

وَلَقَدْ And verily عَهِدْنَآ We made a covenant إِلَىٰٓ with ءَادَمَ Adam مِن before قَبْلُ before فَنَسِىَ but he forgot وَلَمْ and not نَجِدْ We found لَهُۥ in him عَزْمًۭا determination ١١٥

And We had already taken a promise from Adam before, but he forgot; and We found not in him determination.

— Come To Light

وَإِذْ And when قُلْنَا We said لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ to the Angels ٱسْجُدُوا۟ Prostrate لِـَٔادَمَ to Adam فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ then they prostrated إِلَّآ except إِبْلِيسَ Iblis أَبَىٰ he refused ١١٦

And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except Iblees; he refused.

— Come To Light

فَقُلْنَا Then We said يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ O Adam إِنَّ Indeed هَـٰذَا this عَدُوٌّۭ (is) an enemy لَّكَ to you وَلِزَوْجِكَ and to your wife فَلَا So not يُخْرِجَنَّكُمَا (let) him drive you both مِنَ from ٱلْجَنَّةِ Paradise فَتَشْقَىٰٓ so (that) you would suffer ١١٧

So We said, "O Adam, indeed this is an enemy to you and to your wife. Then let him not remove you from Paradise so you would suffer.

— Come To Light

إِنَّ Indeed لَكَ for you أَلَّا that not تَجُوعَ you will be hungry فِيهَا therein وَلَا and not تَعْرَىٰ you will be unclothed ١١٨

Indeed, it is [promised] for you not to be hungry therein or be unclothed.

— Come To Light

وَأَنَّكَ And that you لَا not تَظْمَؤُا۟ will suffer from thirst فِيهَا therein وَلَا and not تَضْحَىٰ exposed to the sun's heat ١١٩

And indeed, you will not be thirsty therein or be hot from the sun."

— Come To Light

فَوَسْوَسَ Then whispered إِلَيْهِ to him ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ Shaitaan قَالَ he said يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ O Adam هَلْ Shall أَدُلُّكَ I direct you عَلَىٰ to شَجَرَةِ (the) tree ٱلْخُلْدِ (of) the Eternity وَمُلْكٍۢ and a kingdom لَّا not يَبْلَىٰ (that will) deteriorate ١٢٠

Then Satan whispered to him; he said, "O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate?"

— Come To Light

فَأَكَلَا Then they both ate مِنْهَا from it فَبَدَتْ so became apparent لَهُمَا to them سَوْءَٰتُهُمَا their shame وَطَفِقَا and they began يَخْصِفَانِ (to) fasten عَلَيْهِمَا on themselves مِن from وَرَقِ (the) leaves ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۚ (of) Paradise وَعَصَىٰٓ And Adam disobeyed ءَادَمُ And Adam disobeyed رَبَّهُۥ his Lord فَغَوَىٰ and erred ١٢١

And they [i.e., Adam and his wife] ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred.

— Come To Light

ثُمَّ Then ٱجْتَبَـٰهُ chose him رَبُّهُۥ his Lord فَتَابَ and turned عَلَيْهِ to him وَهَدَىٰ and guided (him) ١٢٢

Then his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and guided [him].

— Come To Light

قَالَ He said ٱهْبِطَا Go down مِنْهَا from it جَمِيعًۢا ۖ all بَعْضُكُمْ some of you لِبَعْضٍ to others عَدُوٌّۭ ۖ (as) enemy فَإِمَّا Then if يَأْتِيَنَّكُم comes to you مِّنِّى from Me هُدًۭى guidance فَمَنِ then whoever ٱتَّبَعَ follows هُدَاىَ My guidance فَلَا then not يَضِلُّ he will go astray وَلَا and not يَشْقَىٰ suffer ١٢٣

[Allāh] said, "Descend from it [i.e., Paradise] - all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me - then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter].

— Come To Light

وَمَنْ And whoever أَعْرَضَ turns away عَن from ذِكْرِى My remembrance فَإِنَّ then indeed لَهُۥ for him مَعِيشَةًۭ (is) a life ضَنكًۭا straitened وَنَحْشُرُهُۥ and We will gather him يَوْمَ (on the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection أَعْمَىٰ blind ١٢٤

And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed [i.e., difficult] life, and We will gather [i.e., raise] him on the Day of Resurrection blind."

— Come To Light

قَالَ He will say رَبِّ My Lord لِمَ Why حَشَرْتَنِىٓ You raised me أَعْمَىٰ blind وَقَدْ while [verily] كُنتُ I had بَصِيرًۭا sight ١٢٥

He will say, "My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing?"
