فَلَمَّا So when جَآءَ came أَمْرُنَا Our Command جَعَلْنَا We made عَـٰلِيَهَا its upside سَافِلَهَا its downside وَأَمْطَرْنَا and We rained عَلَيْهَا upon them حِجَارَةًۭ stones مِّن of سِجِّيلٍۢ baked clay مَّنضُودٍۢ (in) layers ٨٢
So when Our command came, We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of layered hard clay, [which were]
— Come To Light
مُّسَوَّمَةً Marked عِندَ from رَبِّكَ ۖ your Lord وَمَا And not هِىَ it مِنَ (is) from ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers بِبَعِيدٍۢ far ٨٣
Marked from your Lord. And it [i.e., Allāh's punishment] is not from the wrongdoers [very] far.
— Come To Light
۞ وَإِلَىٰ And to مَدْيَنَ Madyan أَخَاهُمْ their brother شُعَيْبًۭا ۚ Shuaib قَالَ He said يَـٰقَوْمِ O my people ٱعْبُدُوا۟ Worship ٱللَّهَ Allah مَا not لَكُم (is) for you مِّنْ any إِلَـٰهٍ god غَيْرُهُۥ ۖ other than Him وَلَا And (do) not تَنقُصُوا۟ decrease ٱلْمِكْيَالَ (from) the measure وَٱلْمِيزَانَ ۚ and the scale إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I أَرَىٰكُم see you بِخَيْرٍۢ in prosperity وَإِنِّىٓ but indeed, I أَخَافُ fear عَلَيْكُمْ for you عَذَابَ punishment يَوْمٍۢ (of) a Day مُّحِيطٍۢ all-encompassing ٨٤
And to Madyan [We sent] their brother Shuʿayb. He said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him. And do not decrease from the measure and the scale. Indeed, I see you in prosperity, but indeed, I fear for you the punishment of an all-encompassing Day.
— Come To Light
وَيَـٰقَوْمِ And O my people أَوْفُوا۟ Give full ٱلْمِكْيَالَ measure وَٱلْمِيزَانَ and weight بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۖ in justice وَلَا and (do) not تَبْخَسُوا۟ deprive ٱلنَّاسَ the people أَشْيَآءَهُمْ (of) their things وَلَا and (do) not تَعْثَوْا۟ act wickedly فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth مُفْسِدِينَ spreading corruption ٨٥
And O my people, give full measure and weight in justice and do not deprive the people of their due and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption.
— Come To Light
بَقِيَّتُ (What) remains ٱللَّهِ (from) Allah خَيْرٌۭ (is) best لَّكُمْ for you إِن if كُنتُم you are مُّؤْمِنِينَ ۚ believers وَمَآ And not أَنَا۠ I am عَلَيْكُم over you بِحَفِيظٍۢ a guardian ٨٦
What remains [lawful] from Allāh is best for you, if you would be believers. But I am not a guardian over you."
— Come To Light
قَالُوا۟ They said يَـٰشُعَيْبُ O Shuaib أَصَلَوٰتُكَ Does your prayer تَأْمُرُكَ command you أَن that نَّتْرُكَ we leave مَا what يَعْبُدُ worship ءَابَآؤُنَآ our forefathers أَوْ or أَن that نَّفْعَلَ we do فِىٓ concerning أَمْوَٰلِنَا our wealth مَا what نَشَـٰٓؤُا۟ ۖ we will إِنَّكَ Indeed you لَأَنتَ surely you ٱلْحَلِيمُ (are) the forbearing ٱلرَّشِيدُ the right-minded ٨٧
They said, "O Shuʿayb, does your prayer [i.e., religion] command you that we should leave what our fathers worship or not do with our wealth what we please? Indeed, you are the forbearing, the discerning!"
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said يَـٰقَوْمِ O my people أَرَءَيْتُمْ Do you see إِن if كُنتُ I am عَلَىٰ on بَيِّنَةٍۢ a clear evidence مِّن from رَّبِّى my Lord وَرَزَقَنِى and He has provided me مِنْهُ from Himself رِزْقًا a good provision حَسَنًۭا ۚ a good provision وَمَآ And not أُرِيدُ I intend أَنْ that أُخَالِفَكُمْ I differ from you إِلَىٰ in مَآ what أَنْهَىٰكُمْ I forbid you عَنْهُ ۚ from it إِنْ Not أُرِيدُ I intend إِلَّا except ٱلْإِصْلَـٰحَ the reform مَا as much as I am able ٱسْتَطَعْتُ ۚ as much as I am able وَمَا And not تَوْفِيقِىٓ (is) my success إِلَّا except بِٱللَّهِ ۚ with Allah عَلَيْهِ Upon Him تَوَكَّلْتُ I trust وَإِلَيْهِ and to Him أُنِيبُ I turn ٨٨
He said, "O my people, have you considered: if I am upon clear evidence from my Lord and He has provided me with a good provision from Him...? And I do not intend to differ from you in that which I have forbidden you; I only intend reform as much as I am able. And my success is not but through Allāh. Upon Him I have relied, and to Him I return.
