52. Surah At-Tur
The Mount · Makki · 49 Ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
وَكِتَـٰبٍۢ And by (the) Book مَّسْطُورٍۢ written ٢
And [by] a Book inscribed
— Come To Light
فِى In رَقٍّۢ parchment مَّنشُورٍۢ unrolled ٣
In parchment spread open
— Come To Light
وَٱلْبَيْتِ By the House ٱلْمَعْمُورِ frequented ٤
And [by] the frequented House
— Come To Light
وَٱلسَّقْفِ By the roof ٱلْمَرْفُوعِ raised high ٥
And [by] the ceiling [i.e., heaven] raised high
— Come To Light
وَٱلْبَحْرِ By the sea ٱلْمَسْجُورِ filled ٦
And [by] the sea set on fire,
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed عَذَابَ (the) punishment رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord لَوَٰقِعٌۭ (will) surely occur ٧
Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur.
— Come To Light
مَّا Not لَهُۥ for it مِن any دَافِعٍۢ preventer ٨
Of it there is no preventer.
— Come To Light
يَوْمَ (On the) Day تَمُورُ will shake ٱلسَّمَآءُ the heaven مَوْرًۭا (with violent) shake ٩
On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion
— Come To Light
وَتَسِيرُ And will move away ٱلْجِبَالُ the mountains سَيْرًۭا (with an awful) movement ١٠
And the mountains will pass on, departing -
— Come To Light
فَوَيْلٌۭ Then woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ to the deniers ١١
Then woe, that Day, to the deniers,
— Come To Light
ٱلَّذِينَ Who هُمْ [they] فِى in خَوْضٍۢ (vain) discourse يَلْعَبُونَ are playing ١٢
Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves.
— Come To Light
يَوْمَ (The) Day يُدَعُّونَ they will be thrust إِلَىٰ (in)to نَارِ (the) Fire جَهَنَّمَ (of) Hell دَعًّا (with) a thrust ١٣
The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say],
— Come To Light
هَـٰذِهِ This ٱلنَّارُ (is) the Fire ٱلَّتِى which كُنتُم you used to بِهَا [of it] تُكَذِّبُونَ deny ١٤
"This is the Fire which you used to deny.
— Come To Light
أَفَسِحْرٌ Then is this magic هَـٰذَآ Then is this magic أَمْ or أَنتُمْ you لَا (do) not تُبْصِرُونَ see ١٥
Then is this magic, or do you not see?
— Come To Light
ٱصْلَوْهَا Burn in it فَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ then be patient أَوْ or لَا (do) not تَصْبِرُوا۟ be patient سَوَآءٌ (it is) same عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ for you إِنَّمَا Only تُجْزَوْنَ you are being recompensed مَا (for) what كُنتُمْ you used to تَعْمَلُونَ do ١٦
[Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do."
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ the righteous فِى (will be) in جَنَّـٰتٍۢ Gardens وَنَعِيمٍۢ and pleasure ١٧
Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure,
— Come To Light
فَـٰكِهِينَ Enjoying بِمَآ in what ءَاتَىٰهُمْ has given them رَبُّهُمْ their Lord وَوَقَىٰهُمْ and protected them رَبُّهُمْ their Lord عَذَابَ (from the) punishment ٱلْجَحِيمِ (of) Hellfire ١٨
Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire.
— Come To Light
كُلُوا۟ Eat وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ and drink هَنِيٓـًٔۢا (in) satisfaction بِمَا for what كُنتُمْ you used to تَعْمَلُونَ do ١٩
[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."
— Come To Light
مُتَّكِـِٔينَ Reclining عَلَىٰ on سُرُرٍۢ thrones مَّصْفُوفَةٍۢ ۖ lined up وَزَوَّجْنَـٰهُم and We will marry them بِحُورٍ to fair ones عِينٍۢ (with) large eyes ٢٠
They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes.
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believed وَٱتَّبَعَتْهُمْ and followed them ذُرِّيَّتُهُم their offspring بِإِيمَـٰنٍ in faith أَلْحَقْنَا We will join بِهِمْ with them ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ their offspring وَمَآ and not أَلَتْنَـٰهُم We will deprive them مِّنْ of عَمَلِهِم their deeds مِّن (in) any شَىْءٍۢ ۚ thing كُلُّ Every ٱمْرِئٍۭ person بِمَا for what كَسَبَ he earned رَهِينٌۭ (is) pledged ٢١
And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained.
— Come To Light
وَأَمْدَدْنَـٰهُم And We will provide them بِفَـٰكِهَةٍۢ with fruit وَلَحْمٍۢ and meat مِّمَّا from what يَشْتَهُونَ they desire ٢٢
And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire.
— Come To Light
يَتَنَـٰزَعُونَ They will pass to one another فِيهَا therein كَأْسًۭا a cup لَّا no لَغْوٌۭ ill speech فِيهَا therein وَلَا and no تَأْثِيمٌۭ sin ٢٣
They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin.
— Come To Light
۞ وَيَطُوفُ And will circulate عَلَيْهِمْ among them غِلْمَانٌۭ boys لَّهُمْ for them كَأَنَّهُمْ as if they (were) لُؤْلُؤٌۭ pearls مَّكْنُونٌۭ well-protected ٢٤
There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected.
— Come To Light
وَأَقْبَلَ And will approach بَعْضُهُمْ some of them عَلَىٰ to بَعْضٍۢ others يَتَسَآءَلُونَ inquiring ٢٥
And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.
— Come To Light
قَالُوٓا۟ They will say إِنَّا Indeed, we كُنَّا [we] were قَبْلُ before فِىٓ among أَهْلِنَا our families مُشْفِقِينَ fearful ٢٦
They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allāh].
— Come To Light
فَمَنَّ But Allah conferred favor ٱللَّهُ But Allah conferred favor عَلَيْنَا upon us وَوَقَىٰنَا and protected us عَذَابَ (from the) punishment ٱلسَّمُومِ (of) the Scorching Fire ٢٧
So Allāh conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire.
— Come To Light
إِنَّا Indeed, we كُنَّا [we] used to مِن before قَبْلُ before نَدْعُوهُ ۖ call Him إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He هُوَ [He] ٱلْبَرُّ (is) the Most Kind ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ٢٨
Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful."
— Come To Light
فَذَكِّرْ Therefore remind فَمَآ for not أَنتَ you بِنِعْمَتِ (are) by (the) grace رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord بِكَاهِنٍۢ a soothsayer وَلَا and not مَجْنُونٍ a madman ٢٩
So remind, [O Muḥammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman.
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or يَقُولُونَ (do) they say شَاعِرٌۭ A poet نَّتَرَبَّصُ we wait بِهِۦ for him رَيْبَ a misfortune of time ٱلْمَنُونِ a misfortune of time ٣٠
Or do they say [of you], "A poet for whom we await a misfortune of time"?
— Come To Light
قُلْ Say تَرَبَّصُوا۟ Wait فَإِنِّى for indeed I am مَعَكُم with you مِّنَ among ٱلْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ those who wait ٣١
Say, "Wait, for indeed I am, with you, among the waiters."
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or تَأْمُرُهُمْ command them أَحْلَـٰمُهُم their minds بِهَـٰذَآ ۚ this أَمْ or هُمْ they قَوْمٌۭ (are) a people طَاغُونَ transgressing ٣٢
Or do their minds command them to [say] this, or are they a transgressing people?
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or يَقُولُونَ (do) they say تَقَوَّلَهُۥ ۚ He has made it up بَل Nay لَّا not يُؤْمِنُونَ they believe ٣٣
Or do they say, "He has made it up"? Rather, they do not believe.
— Come To Light
فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ Then let them bring بِحَدِيثٍۢ a statement مِّثْلِهِۦٓ like it إِن if كَانُوا۟ they are صَـٰدِقِينَ truthful ٣٤
Then let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful.
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or خُلِقُوا۟ they were created مِنْ of غَيْرِ nothing شَىْءٍ nothing أَمْ or هُمُ (are) they ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ the creators ٣٥
Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]?
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or خَلَقُوا۟ (did) they create ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضَ ۚ and the earth بَل Nay لَّا not يُوقِنُونَ they are certain ٣٦
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain.
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or عِندَهُمْ with them خَزَآئِنُ (are the) treasures رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord أَمْ or هُمُ (are) they ٱلْمُصَۣيْطِرُونَ the controllers ٣٧
Or have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]?
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or لَهُمْ for them سُلَّمٌۭ (is) a stairway يَسْتَمِعُونَ they listen فِيهِ ۖ therewith فَلْيَأْتِ Then let bring مُسْتَمِعُهُم their listener بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ an authority مُّبِينٍ clear ٣٨
Or have they a stairway [into the heaven] upon which they listen? Then let their listener produce a clear authority [i.e., proof].
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or لَهُ for Him ٱلْبَنَـٰتُ (are) daughters وَلَكُمُ while for you ٱلْبَنُونَ (are) sons ٣٩
Or has He daughters while you have sons?
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ (do) you ask from them أَجْرًۭا a payment فَهُم so they مِّن from مَّغْرَمٍۢ a debt مُّثْقَلُونَ (are) overburdened ٤٠
Or do you, [O Muḥammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down?
— Come To Light
