45. Surah Al-Jathiyah

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
تَنزِيلُ (The) revelation ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (of) the Book مِنَ (is) from ٱللَّهِ Allah ٱلْعَزِيزِ the All-Mighty ٱلْحَكِيمِ the All-Wise ٢
The revelation of the Book is from Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ for the believers ٣
Indeed, within the heavens and earth are signs for the believers.
— Come To Light
وَفِى And in خَلْقِكُمْ your creation وَمَا and what يَبُثُّ He disperses مِن of دَآبَّةٍ (the) moving creatures ءَايَـٰتٌۭ (are) Signs لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people يُوقِنُونَ who are certain ٤
And in the creation of yourselves and what He disperses of moving creatures are signs for people who are certain [in faith].
— Come To Light
وَٱخْتِلَـٰفِ And (in the) alternation ٱلَّيْلِ (of) the night وَٱلنَّهَارِ and the day وَمَآ and what أَنزَلَ Allah sends down ٱللَّهُ Allah sends down مِنَ from ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky مِن of رِّزْقٍۢ (the) provision فَأَحْيَا and gives life بِهِ thereby ٱلْأَرْضَ (to) the earth بَعْدَ after مَوْتِهَا its death وَتَصْرِيفِ and (in) directing ٱلرِّيَـٰحِ (the) winds ءَايَـٰتٌۭ (are) Signs لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people يَعْقِلُونَ who reason ٥
And [in] the alternation of night and day and [in] what Allāh sends down from the sky of provision [i.e., rain] and gives life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness and [in His] directing of the winds are signs for a people who reason.
— Come To Light
تِلْكَ These ءَايَـٰتُ (are the) Verses ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah نَتْلُوهَا We recite them عَلَيْكَ to you بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ in truth فَبِأَىِّ Then in what حَدِيثٍۭ statement بَعْدَ after ٱللَّهِ Allah وَءَايَـٰتِهِۦ and His Verses يُؤْمِنُونَ will they believe ٦
These are the verses of Allāh which We recite to you in truth. Then in what statement after Allāh and His verses will they believe?
— Come To Light
وَيْلٌۭ Woe لِّكُلِّ to every أَفَّاكٍ liar أَثِيمٍۢ sinful ٧
Woe to every sinful liar
— Come To Light
يَسْمَعُ Who hears ءَايَـٰتِ (the) Verses ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah تُتْلَىٰ recited عَلَيْهِ to him ثُمَّ then يُصِرُّ persists مُسْتَكْبِرًۭا arrogantly كَأَن as if لَّمْ not يَسْمَعْهَا ۖ he heard them فَبَشِّرْهُ So give him tidings بِعَذَابٍ (of) a punishment أَلِيمٍۢ painful ٨
Who hears the verses of Allāh recited to him, then persists arrogantly as if he had not heard them. So give him tidings of a painful punishment.
— Come To Light
وَإِذَا And when عَلِمَ he knows مِنْ of ءَايَـٰتِنَا Our Verses شَيْـًٔا anything ٱتَّخَذَهَا he takes them هُزُوًا ۚ (in) ridicule أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those لَهُمْ for them عَذَابٌۭ (is) a punishment مُّهِينٌۭ humiliating ٩
And when he knows anything of Our verses, he takes them in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.
— Come To Light
مِّن Before them وَرَآئِهِمْ Before them جَهَنَّمُ ۖ (is) Hell وَلَا and not يُغْنِى will avail عَنْهُم them مَّا what كَسَبُوا۟ they had earned شَيْـًۭٔا anything وَلَا and not مَا what ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ they had taken مِن besides دُونِ besides ٱللَّهِ Allah أَوْلِيَآءَ ۖ (as) protectors وَلَهُمْ And for them عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment عَظِيمٌ great ١٠
Before them is Hell, and what they had earned will not avail them at all nor what they had taken besides Allāh as allies. And they will have a great punishment.
— Come To Light
هَـٰذَا This هُدًۭى ۖ (is) guidance وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve بِـَٔايَـٰتِ in (the) Verses رَبِّهِمْ (of) their Lord لَهُمْ for them عَذَابٌۭ (is) a punishment مِّن of رِّجْزٍ filth أَلِيمٌ painful ١١
This [Qur’ān] is guidance. And those who have disbelieved in the verses of their Lord will have a painful punishment of foul nature.
— Come To Light
۞ ٱللَّهُ Allah ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who سَخَّرَ subjected لَكُمُ to you ٱلْبَحْرَ the sea لِتَجْرِىَ that may sail ٱلْفُلْكُ the ships فِيهِ therein بِأَمْرِهِۦ by His Command وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟ and that you may seek مِن of فَضْلِهِۦ His Bounty وَلَعَلَّكُمْ and that you may تَشْكُرُونَ give thanks ١٢
It is Allāh who subjected to you the sea so that ships may sail upon it by His command and that you may seek of His bounty; and perhaps you will be grateful.
— Come To Light
وَسَخَّرَ And He has subjected لَكُم to you مَّا whatever فِى (is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَمَا and whatever فِى (is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth جَمِيعًۭا all مِّنْهُ ۚ from Him إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely are Signs لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people يَتَفَكَّرُونَ who give thought ١٣
And He has subjected to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth - all from Him. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.
— Come To Light
قُل Say لِّلَّذِينَ to those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe يَغْفِرُوا۟ (to) forgive لِلَّذِينَ those who لَا (do) not يَرْجُونَ hope أَيَّامَ (for the) days ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah لِيَجْزِىَ that He may recompense قَوْمًۢا a people بِمَا for what كَانُوا۟ they used to يَكْسِبُونَ earn ١٤
Say, [O Muḥammad], to those who have believed that they [should] forgive those who expect not the days of Allāh [i.e., of His retribution] so that He may recompense a people for what they used to earn.
— Come To Light
مَنْ Whoever عَمِلَ does صَـٰلِحًۭا a righteous deed فَلِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ then it is for his soul وَمَنْ and whoever أَسَآءَ does evil فَعَلَيْهَا ۖ then it (is) against it ثُمَّ Then إِلَىٰ to رَبِّكُمْ your Lord تُرْجَعُونَ you will be returned ١٥
Whoever does a good deed - it is for himself; and whoever does evil - it is against it [i.e., the self or soul]. Then to your Lord you will be returned.
— Come To Light
وَلَقَدْ And certainly ءَاتَيْنَا We gave بَنِىٓ (the) Children of Israel إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (the) Children of Israel ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book وَٱلْحُكْمَ and the wisdom وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَ and the Prophethood وَرَزَقْنَـٰهُم and We provided them مِّنَ of ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ the good things وَفَضَّلْنَـٰهُمْ and We preferred them عَلَى over ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ the worlds ١٦
And We did certainly give the Children of Israel the Scripture and judgement and prophethood, and We provided them with good things and preferred them over the worlds.
— Come To Light
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم And We gave them بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ clear proofs مِّنَ of ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖ the matter فَمَا And not ٱخْتَلَفُوٓا۟ they differed إِلَّا except مِنۢ after بَعْدِ after مَا [what] جَآءَهُمُ came to them ٱلْعِلْمُ the knowledge بَغْيًۢا (out of) envy بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ between themselves إِنَّ Indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord يَقْضِى will judge بَيْنَهُمْ between them يَوْمَ (on the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection فِيمَا about what كَانُوا۟ they used to فِيهِ therein يَخْتَلِفُونَ differ ١٧
And We gave them clear proofs of the matter [of religion]. And they did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. Indeed, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they used to differ.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then جَعَلْنَـٰكَ We put you عَلَىٰ on شَرِيعَةٍۢ an ordained way مِّنَ of ٱلْأَمْرِ the matter فَٱتَّبِعْهَا so follow it وَلَا and (do) not تَتَّبِعْ follow أَهْوَآءَ (the) desires ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who لَا (do) not يَعْلَمُونَ know ١٨
Then We put you, [O Muḥammad], on an ordained way concerning the matter [of religion]; so follow it and do not follow the inclinations of those who do not know.
— Come To Light
إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they لَن never يُغْنُوا۟ will avail عَنكَ you مِنَ against ٱللَّهِ Allah شَيْـًۭٔا ۚ (in) anything وَإِنَّ And indeed ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers بَعْضُهُمْ some of them أَوْلِيَآءُ (are) allies بَعْضٍۢ ۖ (of) others وَٱللَّهُ and Allah وَلِىُّ (is the) Protector ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ (of) the righteous ١٩
Indeed, they will never avail you against Allāh at all. And indeed, the wrongdoers are allies of one another; but Allāh is the protector of the righteous.
— Come To Light
هَـٰذَا This بَصَـٰٓئِرُ (is) enlightenment لِلنَّاسِ for mankind وَهُدًۭى and guidance وَرَحْمَةٌۭ and mercy لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people يُوقِنُونَ who are certain ٢٠
This [Qur’ān] is enlightenment for mankind and guidance and mercy for a people who are certain [in faith].
— Come To Light
أَمْ Do حَسِبَ think ٱلَّذِينَ those who ٱجْتَرَحُوا۟ commit ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ evil deeds أَن that نَّجْعَلَهُمْ We will make them كَٱلَّذِينَ like those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believed وَعَمِلُوا۟ and did ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds سَوَآءًۭ equal مَّحْيَاهُمْ (in) their life وَمَمَاتُهُمْ ۚ and their death سَآءَ Evil is مَا what يَحْكُمُونَ they judge ٢١
Or do those who commit evils think We will make them like those who have believed and done righteous deeds - [make them] equal in their life and their death? Evil is that which they judge [i.e., assume].
— Come To Light
وَخَلَقَ And Allah created ٱللَّهُ And Allah created ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth وَلِتُجْزَىٰ and that may be recompensed كُلُّ every نَفْسٍۭ soul بِمَا for what كَسَبَتْ it has earned وَهُمْ and they لَا will not be wronged يُظْلَمُونَ will not be wronged ٢٢
And Allāh created the heavens and earth in truth and so that every soul may be recompensed for what it has earned, and they will not be wronged.
— Come To Light
أَفَرَءَيْتَ Have you seen مَنِ (he) who ٱتَّخَذَ takes إِلَـٰهَهُۥ (as) his god هَوَىٰهُ his desire وَأَضَلَّهُ and Allah lets him go astray ٱللَّهُ and Allah lets him go astray عَلَىٰ knowingly عِلْمٍۢ knowingly وَخَتَمَ and He sets a seal عَلَىٰ upon سَمْعِهِۦ his hearing وَقَلْبِهِۦ and his heart وَجَعَلَ and puts عَلَىٰ over بَصَرِهِۦ his vision غِشَـٰوَةًۭ a veil فَمَن Then who يَهْدِيهِ will guide him مِنۢ after بَعْدِ after ٱللَّهِ ۚ Allah أَفَلَا Then will not تَذَكَّرُونَ you receive admonition ٢٣
Have you seen he who has taken as his god his [own] desire, and Allāh has sent him astray due to knowledge and has set a seal upon his hearing and his heart and put over his vision a veil? So who will guide him after Allāh? Then will you not be reminded?
— Come To Light
وَقَالُوا۟ And they say مَا Not هِىَ it إِلَّا (is) but حَيَاتُنَا our life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world نَمُوتُ we die وَنَحْيَا and we live وَمَا and not يُهْلِكُنَآ destroys us إِلَّا except ٱلدَّهْرُ ۚ the time وَمَا And not لَهُم for them بِذَٰلِكَ of that مِنْ any عِلْمٍ ۖ knowledge إِنْ not هُمْ they إِلَّا (do) but يَظُنُّونَ guess ٢٤
And they say, "There is not but our worldly life; we die and live, and nothing destroys us except time." And they have of that no knowledge; they are only assuming.
— Come To Light
وَإِذَا And when تُتْلَىٰ are recited عَلَيْهِمْ to them ءَايَـٰتُنَا Our Verses بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ clear مَّا not كَانَ is حُجَّتَهُمْ their argument إِلَّآ except أَن that قَالُوا۟ they say ٱئْتُوا۟ Bring بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ our forefathers إِن if كُنتُمْ you are صَـٰدِقِينَ truthful ٢٥
And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, their argument is only that they say, "Bring [back] our forefathers, if you should be truthful."
— Come To Light
قُلِ Say ٱللَّهُ Allah يُحْيِيكُمْ gives you life ثُمَّ then يُمِيتُكُمْ causes you to die ثُمَّ then يَجْمَعُكُمْ He will gather you إِلَىٰ to يَوْمِ (the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection لَا no رَيْبَ doubt فِيهِ about it وَلَـٰكِنَّ But أَكْثَرَ most ٱلنَّاسِ (of) the people لَا (do) not يَعْلَمُونَ know ٢٦
Say, "Allāh causes you to live, then causes you to die; then He will assemble you for the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt, but most of the people do not know."
— Come To Light
وَلِلَّهِ And for Allah مُلْكُ (is the) dominion ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ and the earth وَيَوْمَ and (the) Day تَقُومُ is established ٱلسَّاعَةُ the Hour يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that Day يَخْسَرُ will lose ٱلْمُبْطِلُونَ the falsifiers ٢٧
And to Allāh belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And the Day the Hour appears - that Day the falsifiers will lose.
— Come To Light
وَتَرَىٰ And you will see كُلَّ every أُمَّةٍۢ nation جَاثِيَةًۭ ۚ kneeling كُلُّ Every أُمَّةٍۢ nation تُدْعَىٰٓ will be called إِلَىٰ to كِتَـٰبِهَا its record ٱلْيَوْمَ Today تُجْزَوْنَ you will be recompensed مَا (for) what كُنتُمْ you used to تَعْمَلُونَ do ٢٨
And you will see every nation kneeling [from fear]. Every nation will be called to its record [and told], "Today you will be recompensed for what you used to do.
— Come To Light
هَـٰذَا This كِتَـٰبُنَا Our Record يَنطِقُ speaks عَلَيْكُم about you بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ in truth إِنَّا Indeed, We كُنَّا [We] used to نَسْتَنسِخُ transcribe مَا what كُنتُمْ you used to تَعْمَلُونَ do ٢٩
This, Our record, speaks about you in truth. Indeed, We were having transcribed whatever you used to do."
— Come To Light
فَأَمَّا Then as for ٱلَّذِينَ those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believed وَعَمِلُوا۟ and did ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ [the] righteous deeds فَيُدْخِلُهُمْ will admit them رَبُّهُمْ their Lord فِى in(to) رَحْمَتِهِۦ ۚ His mercy ذَٰلِكَ That هُوَ [it] ٱلْفَوْزُ (is) the success ٱلْمُبِينُ clear ٣٠
So as for those who believed and did righteous deeds, their Lord will admit them into His mercy. That is what is the clear attainment.
— Come To Light
وَأَمَّا But as for ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوٓا۟ disbelieved أَفَلَمْ Then were not تَكُنْ Then were not ءَايَـٰتِى My Verses تُتْلَىٰ recited عَلَيْكُمْ to you فَٱسْتَكْبَرْتُمْ but you were proud وَكُنتُمْ and you became قَوْمًۭا a people مُّجْرِمِينَ criminals ٣١
But as for those who disbelieved, [it will be said], "Were not Our verses recited to you, but you were arrogant and became a criminal people?
— Come To Light
وَإِذَا And when قِيلَ it was said إِنَّ Indeed وَعْدَ (the) Promise ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah حَقٌّۭ (is) true وَٱلسَّاعَةُ and the Hour لَا (there is) no رَيْبَ doubt فِيهَا about it قُلْتُم you said مَّا Not نَدْرِى we know مَا what ٱلسَّاعَةُ the Hour (is) إِن Not نَّظُنُّ we think إِلَّا except ظَنًّۭا an assumption وَمَا and not نَحْنُ we بِمُسْتَيْقِنِينَ (are) convinced ٣٢
And when it was said, 'Indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth and the Hour [is coming] - no doubt about it,' you said, 'We know not what is the Hour. We assume only assumption, and we are not convinced.'"
— Come To Light
وَبَدَا And (will) appear لَهُمْ to them سَيِّـَٔاتُ (the) evil مَا (of) what عَمِلُوا۟ they did وَحَاقَ and (will) envelop بِهِم them مَّا what كَانُوا۟ they used بِهِۦ [at it] يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ (to) mock ٣٣
And the evil consequences of what they did will appear to them, and they will be enveloped by what they used to ridicule.
— Come To Light
وَقِيلَ And it will be said ٱلْيَوْمَ Today نَنسَىٰكُمْ We forget you كَمَا as نَسِيتُمْ you forgot لِقَآءَ (the) meeting يَوْمِكُمْ (of) this Day of yours هَـٰذَا (of) this Day of yours وَمَأْوَىٰكُمُ and your abode ٱلنَّارُ (is) the Fire وَمَا and not لَكُم for you مِّن any نَّـٰصِرِينَ helpers ٣٤
And it will be said, "Today We will forget you as you forgot the meeting of this Day of yours, and your refuge is the Fire, and for you there are no helpers.
— Come To Light
ذَٰلِكُم That بِأَنَّكُمُ (is) because you ٱتَّخَذْتُمْ took ءَايَـٰتِ (the) Verses ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah هُزُوًۭا (in) ridicule وَغَرَّتْكُمُ and deceived you ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ the life ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ (of) the world فَٱلْيَوْمَ So this Day لَا not يُخْرَجُونَ they will be brought forth مِنْهَا from it وَلَا and not هُمْ they يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ will be asked to appease ٣٥
That is because you took the verses of Allāh in ridicule, and worldly life deluded you." So that Day they will not be removed from it, nor will they be asked to appease [Allāh].
— Come To Light
فَلِلَّهِ Then for Allah ٱلْحَمْدُ (is) all the praise رَبِّ (the) Lord ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens وَرَبِّ and (the) Lord ٱلْأَرْضِ (of) the earth رَبِّ (the) lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ٣٦
Then, to Allāh belongs [all] praise - Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth, Lord of the worlds.
— Come To Light
وَلَهُ And for Him ٱلْكِبْرِيَآءُ (is) the greatness فِى in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ and the earth وَهُوَ and He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلْحَكِيمُ the All-Wise ٣٧
And to Him belongs [all] grandeur within the heavens and the earth, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
— Come To Light
