صٓ ۚ Saad وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ By the Quran ذِى full (of) reminder ٱلذِّكْرِ full (of) reminder ١
Ṣād. By the Qur’ān containing reminder...
— Come To Light
38. Surah Sad
The Letter "Saad" · Makki · 88 Ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
بَلِ Nay ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve فِى (are) in عِزَّةٍۢ self-glory وَشِقَاقٍۢ and opposition ٢
But those who disbelieve are in pride and dissension.
— Come To Light
كَمْ How many أَهْلَكْنَا We destroyed مِن before them قَبْلِهِم before them مِّن of قَرْنٍۢ a generation فَنَادَوا۟ then they called out وَّلَاتَ when there (was) no longer حِينَ time مَنَاصٍۢ (for) escape ٣
How many a generation have We destroyed before them, and they [then] called out; but it was not a time for escape.
— Come To Light
وَعَجِبُوٓا۟ And they wonder أَن that جَآءَهُم has come to them مُّنذِرٌۭ a warner مِّنْهُمْ ۖ from themselves وَقَالَ And said ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ the disbelievers هَـٰذَا This سَـٰحِرٌۭ (is) a magician كَذَّابٌ a liar ٤
And they wonder that there has come to them a warner [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] from among themselves. And the disbelievers say, "This is a magician and a liar.
— Come To Light
أَجَعَلَ Has he made ٱلْـَٔالِهَةَ the gods إِلَـٰهًۭا (into) one god وَٰحِدًا ۖ (into) one god إِنَّ Indeed هَـٰذَا this لَشَىْءٌ (is) certainly a thing عُجَابٌۭ curious ٥
Has he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing."
— Come To Light
وَٱنطَلَقَ And went forth ٱلْمَلَأُ the chiefs مِنْهُمْ among them أَنِ that ٱمْشُوا۟ Continue وَٱصْبِرُوا۟ and be patient عَلَىٰٓ over ءَالِهَتِكُمْ ۖ your gods إِنَّ Indeed هَـٰذَا this لَشَىْءٌۭ (is) certainly a thing يُرَادُ intended ٦
And the eminent among them went forth, [saying], "Continue, and be patient over [the defense of] your gods. Indeed, this is a thing intended.
— Come To Light
مَا Not سَمِعْنَا we heard بِهَـٰذَا of this فِى in ٱلْمِلَّةِ the religion ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ the last إِنْ Not هَـٰذَآ (is) this إِلَّا but ٱخْتِلَـٰقٌ a fabrication ٧
We have not heard of this in the latest religion. This is not but a fabrication.
— Come To Light
أَءُنزِلَ Has been revealed عَلَيْهِ to him ٱلذِّكْرُ the Message مِنۢ from بَيْنِنَا ۚ among us بَلْ Nay هُمْ They فِى (are) in شَكٍّۢ doubt مِّن about ذِكْرِى ۖ My Message بَل Nay لَّمَّا not yet يَذُوقُوا۟ they have tasted عَذَابِ My punishment ٨
Has the message been revealed to him out of [all of] us?" Rather, they are in doubt about My message. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment.
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or عِندَهُمْ have they خَزَآئِنُ (the) treasures رَحْمَةِ (of the) Mercy رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord ٱلْعَزِيزِ the All-Mighty ٱلْوَهَّابِ the Bestower ٩
Or do they have the depositories of the mercy of your Lord, the Exalted in Might, the Bestower?
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or لَهُم for them مُّلْكُ (is the) dominion ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth وَمَا and whatever بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ (is) between them فَلْيَرْتَقُوا۟ Then let them ascend فِى by ٱلْأَسْبَـٰبِ the means ١٠
Or is theirs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and what is between them? Then let them ascend through [any] ways of access.
— Come To Light
جُندٌۭ Soldiers مَّا there هُنَالِكَ there مَهْزُومٌۭ (they will be) defeated مِّنَ among ٱلْأَحْزَابِ the companies ١١
[They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers].
— Come To Light
كَذَّبَتْ Denied قَبْلَهُمْ before them قَوْمُ (the) people نُوحٍۢ (of) Nuh وَعَادٌۭ and Aad وَفِرْعَوْنُ and Firaun ذُو (the) owner ٱلْأَوْتَادِ (of) the stakes ١٢
The people of Noah denied before them, and [the tribe of] ʿAad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes,
— Come To Light
وَثَمُودُ And Thamud وَقَوْمُ and (the) people لُوطٍۢ (of) Lut وَأَصْحَـٰبُ and (the) companions لْـَٔيْكَةِ ۚ (of) the wood أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ٱلْأَحْزَابُ (were) the companies ١٣
And [the tribe of] Thamūd and the people of Lot and the companions of the thicket [i.e., people of Madyan]. Those are the companies.
— Come To Light
إِن Not كُلٌّ all (of them) إِلَّا but كَذَّبَ denied ٱلرُّسُلَ the Messengers فَحَقَّ so (was) just عِقَابِ My penalty ١٤
Each of them denied the messengers, so My penalty was justified.
— Come To Light
وَمَا And not يَنظُرُ await هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ these إِلَّا but صَيْحَةًۭ a shout وَٰحِدَةًۭ one مَّا not لَهَا for it مِن any فَوَاقٍۢ delay ١٥
And these [disbelievers] await not but one blast [of the Horn]; for it there will be no delay.
— Come To Light
وَقَالُوا۟ And they say رَبَّنَا Our Lord عَجِّل Hasten لَّنَا for us قِطَّنَا our share قَبْلَ before يَوْمِ (the) Day ٱلْحِسَابِ (of) the Account ١٦
And they say, "Our Lord, hasten for us our share [of the punishment] before the Day of Account."
— Come To Light
ٱصْبِرْ Be patient عَلَىٰ over مَا what يَقُولُونَ they say وَٱذْكُرْ and remember عَبْدَنَا Our slave دَاوُۥدَ Dawood ذَا the possessor of strength ٱلْأَيْدِ ۖ the possessor of strength إِنَّهُۥٓ Indeed, he (was) أَوَّابٌ repeatedly turning ١٧
Be patient over what they say and remember Our servant, David, the possessor of strength; indeed, he was one who repeatedly turned back [to Allāh].
— Come To Light
إِنَّا Indeed, We سَخَّرْنَا subjected ٱلْجِبَالَ the mountains مَعَهُۥ with him يُسَبِّحْنَ glorifying بِٱلْعَشِىِّ in the evening وَٱلْإِشْرَاقِ and [the] sunrise ١٨
Indeed, We subjected the mountains [to praise] with him, exalting [Allāh] in the [late] afternoon and [after] sunrise.
— Come To Light
وَٱلطَّيْرَ And the birds مَحْشُورَةًۭ ۖ assembled كُلٌّۭ all لَّهُۥٓ with him أَوَّابٌۭ repeatedly turning ١٩
And the birds were assembled, all with him repeating [praises].
— Come To Light
وَشَدَدْنَا And We strengthened مُلْكَهُۥ his kingdom وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ and We gave him ٱلْحِكْمَةَ [the] wisdom وَفَصْلَ and decisive ٱلْخِطَابِ speech ٢٠
And We strengthened his kingdom and gave him wisdom and discernment in speech.
— Come To Light
۞ وَهَلْ And has (there) أَتَىٰكَ come to you نَبَؤُا۟ (the) news ٱلْخَصْمِ (of) the litigants إِذْ when تَسَوَّرُوا۟ they climbed over the wall ٱلْمِحْرَابَ (of) the chamber ٢١
And has there come to you the news of the adversaries, when they climbed over the wall of [his] prayer chamber -
— Come To Light
إِذْ When دَخَلُوا۟ they entered عَلَىٰ upon دَاوُۥدَ Dawood فَفَزِعَ and he was afraid مِنْهُمْ ۖ of them قَالُوا۟ they said لَا (Do) not تَخَفْ ۖ fear خَصْمَانِ (We are) two litigants بَغَىٰ has wronged بَعْضُنَا one of us عَلَىٰ to بَعْضٍۢ another فَٱحْكُم so judge بَيْنَنَا between us بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth وَلَا and (do) not تُشْطِطْ be unjust وَٱهْدِنَآ and guide us إِلَىٰ to سَوَآءِ an even ٱلصِّرَٰطِ [the] path ٢٢
When they entered upon David and he was alarmed by them? They said, "Fear not. [We are] two adversaries, one of whom has wronged the other, so judge between us with truth and do not exceed [it] and guide us to the sound path.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed هَـٰذَآ this أَخِى (is) my brother لَهُۥ he has تِسْعٌۭ ninety-nine وَتِسْعُونَ ninety-nine نَعْجَةًۭ ewe(s) وَلِىَ while I have نَعْجَةٌۭ ewe وَٰحِدَةٌۭ one فَقَالَ so he said أَكْفِلْنِيهَا Entrust her to me وَعَزَّنِى and he overpowered me فِى in ٱلْخِطَابِ [the] speech ٢٣
Indeed this, my brother, has ninety-nine ewes, and I have one ewe; so he said, 'Entrust her to me,' and he overpowered me in speech."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said لَقَدْ Certainly ظَلَمَكَ he has wronged you بِسُؤَالِ by demanding نَعْجَتِكَ your ewe إِلَىٰ to نِعَاجِهِۦ ۖ his ewes وَإِنَّ And indeed كَثِيرًۭا many مِّنَ of ٱلْخُلَطَآءِ the partners لَيَبْغِى certainly oppress بَعْضُهُمْ some of them عَلَىٰ [on] بَعْضٍ another إِلَّا except ٱلَّذِينَ those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds وَقَلِيلٌۭ and few مَّا (are) they هُمْ ۗ (are) they وَظَنَّ And became certain دَاوُۥدُ Dawood أَنَّمَا that فَتَنَّـٰهُ We (had) tried him فَٱسْتَغْفَرَ and he asked forgiveness رَبَّهُۥ (of) his Lord وَخَرَّ and fell down رَاكِعًۭا bowing وَأَنَابَ ۩ and turned in repentance ٢٤
[David] said, "He has certainly wronged you in demanding your ewe [in addition] to his ewes. And indeed, many associates oppress one another, except for those who believe and do righteous deeds - and few are they." And David became certain that We had tried him, and he asked forgiveness of his Lord and fell down bowing [in prostration] and turned in repentance [to Allāh].
— Come To Light
فَغَفَرْنَا So We forgave لَهُۥ for him ذَٰلِكَ ۖ that وَإِنَّ And indeed لَهُۥ for him عِندَنَا with Us لَزُلْفَىٰ surely is a near access وَحُسْنَ and a good مَـَٔابٍۢ place of return ٢٥
So We forgave him that; and indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.
— Come To Light
يَـٰدَاوُۥدُ O Dawood إِنَّا Indeed, We جَعَلْنَـٰكَ [We] have made you خَلِيفَةًۭ a vicegerent فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth فَٱحْكُم so judge بَيْنَ between ٱلنَّاسِ [the] men بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth وَلَا and (do) not تَتَّبِعِ follow ٱلْهَوَىٰ the desire فَيُضِلَّكَ for it will lead you astray عَن from سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ ۚ (of) Allah إِنَّ Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who يَضِلُّونَ go astray عَن from سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah لَهُمْ for them عَذَابٌۭ (is) a punishment شَدِيدٌۢ severe بِمَا because نَسُوا۟ they forgot يَوْمَ (the) Day ٱلْحِسَابِ (of) Account ٢٦
[We said], "O David, indeed We have made you a successor upon the earth, so judge between the people in truth and do not follow [your own] desire, as it will lead you astray from the way of Allāh." Indeed, those who go astray from the way of Allāh will have a severe punishment for having forgotten the Day of Account.
— Come To Light
وَمَا And not خَلَقْنَا We created ٱلسَّمَآءَ the heaven وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth وَمَا and whatever بَيْنَهُمَا (is) between them بَـٰطِلًۭا ۚ without purpose ذَٰلِكَ That ظَنُّ (is the) assumption ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ disbelieve فَوَيْلٌۭ So woe لِّلَّذِينَ to those كَفَرُوا۟ who disbelieve مِنَ from ٱلنَّارِ the Fire ٢٧
And We did not create the heaven and the earth and that between them aimlessly. That is the assumption of those who disbelieve, so woe to those who disbelieve from the Fire.
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or نَجْعَلُ should We treat ٱلَّذِينَ those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds كَٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ like those who spread corruption فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth أَمْ Or نَجْعَلُ should We treat ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ the pious كَٱلْفُجَّارِ like the wicked ٢٨
Or should We treat those who believe and do righteous deeds like corrupters in the land? Or should We treat those who fear Allāh like the wicked?
— Come To Light
كِتَـٰبٌ (This is) a Book أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ We have revealed it إِلَيْكَ to you مُبَـٰرَكٌۭ blessed لِّيَدَّبَّرُوٓا۟ that they may ponder ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ (over) its Verses وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ and may be reminded أُو۟لُوا۟ those of understanding ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ those of understanding ٢٩
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.
— Come To Light
وَوَهَبْنَا And We gave لِدَاوُۥدَ to Dawood سُلَيْمَـٰنَ ۚ Sulaiman نِعْمَ an excellent ٱلْعَبْدُ ۖ slave إِنَّهُۥٓ Indeed, he أَوَّابٌ (was) one who repeatedly turned ٣٠
And to David We gave Solomon. An excellent servant, indeed he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allāh].
— Come To Light
إِذْ When عُرِضَ were displayed عَلَيْهِ to him بِٱلْعَشِىِّ in the afternoon ٱلصَّـٰفِنَـٰتُ excellent bred steeds ٱلْجِيَادُ excellent bred steeds ٣١
[Mention] when there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the poised [standing] racehorses.
— Come To Light
فَقَالَ And he said إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I أَحْبَبْتُ [I] preferred حُبَّ (the) love ٱلْخَيْرِ (of) the good عَن over ذِكْرِ (the) remembrance رَبِّى (of) my Lord حَتَّىٰ Until تَوَارَتْ they were hidden بِٱلْحِجَابِ in the veil ٣٢
And he said, "Indeed, I gave preference to the love of good [things] over the remembrance of my Lord until it [i.e., the sun] disappeared into the curtain [of darkness]."
— Come To Light
رُدُّوهَا Return them عَلَىَّ ۖ to me فَطَفِقَ Then he began مَسْحًۢا (to) pass (his hand) بِٱلسُّوقِ over the legs وَٱلْأَعْنَاقِ and the necks ٣٣
[He said], "Return them to me," and set about striking [their] legs and necks.
— Come To Light
وَلَقَدْ And certainly فَتَنَّا We tried سُلَيْمَـٰنَ Sulaiman وَأَلْقَيْنَا and We placed عَلَىٰ on كُرْسِيِّهِۦ his throne جَسَدًۭا a body ثُمَّ then أَنَابَ he turned ٣٤
And We certainly tried Solomon and placed on his throne a body; then he returned.
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said رَبِّ O my Lord ٱغْفِرْ Forgive لِى me وَهَبْ and grant لِى me مُلْكًۭا a kingdom لَّا not يَنۢبَغِى (will) belong لِأَحَدٍۢ to anyone مِّنۢ after me بَعْدِىٓ ۖ after me إِنَّكَ Indeed, You أَنتَ [You] ٱلْوَهَّابُ (are) the Bestower ٣٥
He said, "My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower."
— Come To Light
فَسَخَّرْنَا Then We subjected لَهُ to him ٱلرِّيحَ the wind تَجْرِى to flow بِأَمْرِهِۦ by his command رُخَآءً gently حَيْثُ wherever أَصَابَ he directed ٣٦
So We subjected to him the wind blowing by his command, gently, wherever he directed,
— Come To Light
وَٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ And the devils كُلَّ every بَنَّآءٍۢ builder وَغَوَّاصٍۢ and diver ٣٧
And [also] the devils [of jinn] - every builder and diver.
— Come To Light
وَءَاخَرِينَ And others مُقَرَّنِينَ bound فِى in ٱلْأَصْفَادِ chains ٣٨
And others bound together in irons.
— Come To Light
هَـٰذَا This عَطَآؤُنَا (is) Our gift فَٱمْنُنْ so grant أَوْ or أَمْسِكْ withhold بِغَيْرِ without حِسَابٍۢ account ٣٩
[We said], "This is Our gift, so grant or withhold without account."
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّ And indeed لَهُۥ for him عِندَنَا with Us لَزُلْفَىٰ surely is a near access وَحُسْنَ and a good مَـَٔابٍۢ place of return ٤٠
And indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.
— Come To Light
وَٱذْكُرْ And remember عَبْدَنَآ Our slave أَيُّوبَ Ayyub إِذْ when نَادَىٰ he called رَبَّهُۥٓ his Lord أَنِّى That [I] مَسَّنِىَ (has) touched me ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ Shaitaan بِنُصْبٍۢ with distress وَعَذَابٍ and suffering ٤١
And remember Our servant Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, Satan has touched me with hardship and torment."
— Come To Light
ٱرْكُضْ Strike بِرِجْلِكَ ۖ with your foot هَـٰذَا This مُغْتَسَلٌۢ (is a spring of) water to bathe بَارِدٌۭ cool وَشَرَابٌۭ and a drink ٤٢
[So he was told], "Strike [the ground] with your foot; this is a [spring for a] cool bath and drink."
— Come To Light
وَوَهَبْنَا And We granted لَهُۥٓ [to] him أَهْلَهُۥ his family وَمِثْلَهُم and a like of them مَّعَهُمْ with them رَحْمَةًۭ a Mercy مِّنَّا from Us وَذِكْرَىٰ and a Reminder لِأُو۟لِى for those of understanding ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ for those of understanding ٤٣
And We granted him his family and a like [number] with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for those of understanding.
— Come To Light
وَخُذْ And take بِيَدِكَ in your hand ضِغْثًۭا a bunch فَٱضْرِب and strike بِّهِۦ with it وَلَا and (do) not تَحْنَثْ ۗ break (your) oath إِنَّا Indeed, We وَجَدْنَـٰهُ [We] found him صَابِرًۭا ۚ patient نِّعْمَ an excellent ٱلْعَبْدُ ۖ slave إِنَّهُۥٓ Indeed, he أَوَّابٌۭ repeatedly turned ٤٤
[We said], "And take in your hand a bunch [of grass] and strike with it and do not break your oath." Indeed, We found him patient, an excellent servant. Indeed, he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allāh].
— Come To Light
وَٱذْكُرْ And remember عِبَـٰدَنَآ Our slaves إِبْرَٰهِيمَ Ibrahim وَإِسْحَـٰقَ and Isaac وَيَعْقُوبَ and Ayyub أُو۟لِى possessors ٱلْأَيْدِى (of) strength وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ and vision ٤٥
And remember Our servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - those of strength and [religious] vision.
— Come To Light
إِنَّآ Indeed, We أَخْلَصْنَـٰهُم [We] chose them بِخَالِصَةٍۢ for an exclusive (quality) ذِكْرَى remembrance ٱلدَّارِ (of) the Home ٤٦
Indeed, We chose them for an exclusive quality: remembrance of the home [of the Hereafter].
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّهُمْ And indeed, they عِندَنَا to Us لَمِنَ (are) from ٱلْمُصْطَفَيْنَ the chosen ones ٱلْأَخْيَارِ the best ٤٧
And indeed they are, to Us, among the chosen and outstanding.
— Come To Light
وَٱذْكُرْ And remember إِسْمَـٰعِيلَ Ishmael وَٱلْيَسَعَ and Elisha وَذَا and Dhul-kifl ٱلْكِفْلِ ۖ and Dhul-kifl وَكُلٌّۭ and all مِّنَ (are) from ٱلْأَخْيَارِ the best ٤٨
And remember Ishmael, Elisha and Dhul-Kifl, and all are among the outstanding.
— Come To Light
هَـٰذَا This ذِكْرٌۭ ۚ (is) a Reminder وَإِنَّ And indeed لِلْمُتَّقِينَ for the righteous لَحُسْنَ surely, is a good مَـَٔابٍۢ place of return ٤٩
This is a reminder. And indeed, for the righteous is a good place of return -
— Come To Light
جَنَّـٰتِ Gardens عَدْنٍۢ (of) Eternity مُّفَتَّحَةًۭ (will be) opened لَّهُمُ for them ٱلْأَبْوَٰبُ the gates ٥٠
Gardens of perpetual residence, whose doors will be opened to them.
— Come To Light
مُتَّكِـِٔينَ Reclining فِيهَا therein يَدْعُونَ they will call فِيهَا therein بِفَـٰكِهَةٍۢ for fruit كَثِيرَةٍۢ many وَشَرَابٍۢ and drink ٥١
Reclining within them, they will call therein for abundant fruit and drink.
— Come To Light
۞ وَعِندَهُمْ And with them قَـٰصِرَٰتُ (will be) companions of modest gaze ٱلطَّرْفِ (will be) companions of modest gaze أَتْرَابٌ well-matched ٥٢
And with them will be women limiting [their] glances and of equal age.
— Come To Light
هَـٰذَا This مَا (is) what تُوعَدُونَ you are promised لِيَوْمِ for (the) Day ٱلْحِسَابِ (of) Account ٥٣
This is what you, [the righteous], are promised for the Day of Account.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed هَـٰذَا this لَرِزْقُنَا (is) surely Our provision مَا not لَهُۥ for it مِن any نَّفَادٍ depletion ٥٤
Indeed, this is Our provision; for it there is no depletion.
— Come To Light
هَـٰذَا ۚ This (is so) وَإِنَّ And indeed لِلطَّـٰغِينَ for the transgressors لَشَرَّ surely (is) an evil مَـَٔابٍۢ place of return ٥٥
This [is so]. But indeed, for the transgressors is an evil place of return -
— Come To Light
جَهَنَّمَ Hell يَصْلَوْنَهَا they will burn therein فَبِئْسَ and wretched (is) ٱلْمِهَادُ the resting place ٥٦
Hell, which they will [enter to] burn, and wretched is the resting place.
— Come To Light
هَـٰذَا This (is so) فَلْيَذُوقُوهُ Then let them taste it حَمِيمٌۭ boiling fluid وَغَسَّاقٌۭ and purulence ٥٧
This - so let them taste it - is scalding water and [foul] purulence.
— Come To Light
وَءَاخَرُ And other مِن of شَكْلِهِۦٓ its type أَزْوَٰجٌ (of various) kinds ٥٨
And other [punishments] of its type [in various] kinds.
— Come To Light
هَـٰذَا This فَوْجٌۭ (is) a company مُّقْتَحِمٌۭ bursting مَّعَكُمْ ۖ (in) with you لَا No مَرْحَبًۢا welcome بِهِمْ ۚ for them إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they صَالُوا۟ (will) burn ٱلنَّارِ (in) the Fire ٥٩
[Its inhabitants will say], "This is a company bursting in with you. No welcome for them. Indeed, they will burn in the Fire."
— Come To Light
قَالُوا۟ They say بَلْ Nay أَنتُمْ You لَا no مَرْحَبًۢا welcome بِكُمْ ۖ for you أَنتُمْ You قَدَّمْتُمُوهُ brought this لَنَا ۖ upon us فَبِئْسَ So wretched (is) ٱلْقَرَارُ the settlement ٦٠
They will say, "Nor you! No welcome for you. You, [our leaders], brought this upon us, and wretched is the settlement."
— Come To Light
قَالُوا۟ They will say رَبَّنَا Our Lord مَن whoever قَدَّمَ brought لَنَا upon us هَـٰذَا this فَزِدْهُ increase for him عَذَابًۭا a punishment ضِعْفًۭا double فِى in ٱلنَّارِ the Fire ٦١
They will say, "Our Lord, whoever brought this upon us - increase for him double punishment in the Fire."
— Come To Light
وَقَالُوا۟ And they (will) say مَا What (is) لَنَا for us لَا not نَرَىٰ we see رِجَالًۭا men كُنَّا we used to نَعُدُّهُم count them مِّنَ among ٱلْأَشْرَارِ the bad ones ٦٢
And they will say, "Why do we not see men whom we used to count among the worst?
— Come To Light
أَتَّخَذْنَـٰهُمْ Did we take them سِخْرِيًّا (in) ridicule أَمْ or زَاغَتْ has turned away عَنْهُمُ from them ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ the vision ٦٣
Is it [because] we took them in ridicule, or has [our] vision turned away from them?"
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed ذَٰلِكَ that لَحَقٌّۭ (is) surely (the) truth تَخَاصُمُ (the) quarreling أَهْلِ (of the) people ٱلنَّارِ (of) the Fire ٦٤
Indeed, that is truth [i.e., reality] - the quarreling of the people of the Fire.
— Come To Light
قُلْ Say إِنَّمَآ Only أَنَا۠ I am مُنذِرٌۭ ۖ a warner وَمَا and not مِنْ (is there) any إِلَـٰهٍ god إِلَّا except ٱللَّهُ Allah ٱلْوَٰحِدُ the One ٱلْقَهَّارُ the Irresistible ٦٥
Say, [O Muḥammad], "I am only a warner, and there is not any deity except Allāh, the One, the Prevailing,
— Come To Light
رَبُّ Lord ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth وَمَا and whatever بَيْنَهُمَا (is) between them ٱلْعَزِيزُ the All-Mighty ٱلْغَفَّـٰرُ the Oft-Forgiving ٦٦
Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver."
— Come To Light
قُلْ Say هُوَ It (is) نَبَؤٌا۟ a news عَظِيمٌ great ٦٧
Say, "It is great news
— Come To Light
أَنتُمْ You عَنْهُ from it مُعْرِضُونَ turn away ٦٨
From which you turn away.
— Come To Light
مَا Not كَانَ is لِىَ for me مِنْ any عِلْمٍۭ knowledge بِٱلْمَلَإِ (of) the chiefs ٱلْأَعْلَىٰٓ the exalted إِذْ when يَخْتَصِمُونَ they were disputing ٦٩
I had no knowledge of the exalted assembly [of angels] when they were disputing [the creation of Adam].
— Come To Light
إِن Not يُوحَىٰٓ has been revealed إِلَىَّ to me إِلَّآ except أَنَّمَآ that only أَنَا۠ I am نَذِيرٌۭ a warner مُّبِينٌ clear ٧٠
It has not been revealed to me except that I am a clear warner."
— Come To Light
إِذْ When قَالَ said رَبُّكَ your Lord لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ to the Angels إِنِّى Indeed, I Am خَـٰلِقٌۢ going to create بَشَرًۭا a human being مِّن from طِينٍۢ clay ٧١
[So mention] when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay.
— Come To Light
فَإِذَا So when سَوَّيْتُهُۥ I have proportioned him وَنَفَخْتُ and breathed فِيهِ into him مِن of رُّوحِى My spirit فَقَعُوا۟ then fall down لَهُۥ to him سَـٰجِدِينَ prostrating ٧٢
So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."
— Come To Light
فَسَجَدَ So prostrated ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ the Angels كُلُّهُمْ all of them أَجْمَعُونَ together ٧٣
So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,
— Come To Light
إِلَّآ Except إِبْلِيسَ Iblis ٱسْتَكْبَرَ he was arrogant وَكَانَ and became مِنَ of ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers ٧٤
Except Iblees; he was arrogant and became among the disbelievers.
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said يَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُ O Iblis مَا What مَنَعَكَ prevented you أَن that تَسْجُدَ you (should) prostrate لِمَا to (one) whom خَلَقْتُ I created بِيَدَىَّ ۖ with My Hands أَسْتَكْبَرْتَ Are you arrogant أَمْ or كُنتَ are you مِنَ of ٱلْعَالِينَ the exalted ones ٧٥
[Allāh] said, "O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My hands? Were you arrogant [then], or were you [already] among the haughty?"
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said أَنَا۠ I am خَيْرٌۭ better مِّنْهُ ۖ than him خَلَقْتَنِى You created me مِن from نَّارٍۢ fire وَخَلَقْتَهُۥ and You created him مِن from طِينٍۢ clay ٧٦
He said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said فَٱخْرُجْ Then get out مِنْهَا of it فَإِنَّكَ for indeed, you رَجِيمٌۭ (are) accursed ٧٧
[Allāh] said, "Then get out of it [i.e., Paradise], for indeed, you are expelled.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّ And indeed عَلَيْكَ upon you لَعْنَتِىٓ (is) My curse إِلَىٰ until يَوْمِ (the) Day ٱلدِّينِ (of) Judgment ٧٨
And indeed, upon you is My curse until the Day of Recompense."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said رَبِّ My Lord فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ Then give me respite إِلَىٰ until يَوْمِ (the) Day يُبْعَثُونَ they are resurrected ٧٩
He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said فَإِنَّكَ Then indeed, you مِنَ (are) of ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ those given respite ٨٠
[Allāh] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved
— Come To Light
