30. Surah Ar-Rum
The Romans · Makki · 60 Ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
غُلِبَتِ Have been defeated ٱلرُّومُ the Romans ٢
The Byzantines have been defeated
— Come To Light
فِىٓ In أَدْنَى (the) nearest ٱلْأَرْضِ land وَهُم But they مِّنۢ after بَعْدِ after غَلَبِهِمْ their defeat سَيَغْلِبُونَ will overcome ٣
In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome
— Come To Light
فِى Within بِضْعِ a few سِنِينَ ۗ years لِلَّهِ For Allah ٱلْأَمْرُ (is) the command مِن before قَبْلُ before وَمِنۢ and after بَعْدُ ۚ and after وَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ And that day يَفْرَحُ will rejoice ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believers ٤
Within three to nine years. To Allāh belongs the command [i.e., decree] before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice
— Come To Light
بِنَصْرِ With (the) help ٱللَّهِ ۚ (of) Allah يَنصُرُ He helps مَن whom يَشَآءُ ۖ He wills وَهُوَ And He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful ٥
In the victory of Allāh. He gives victory to whom He wills, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
— Come To Light
وَعْدَ (It is the) Promise ٱللَّهِ ۖ (of) Allah لَا (Does) not يُخْلِفُ fail ٱللَّهُ Allah وَعْدَهُۥ (in) His promise وَلَـٰكِنَّ but أَكْثَرَ most (of) ٱلنَّاسِ [the] people لَا (do) not يَعْلَمُونَ know ٦
[It is] the promise of Allāh. Allāh does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know.
— Come To Light
يَعْلَمُونَ They know ظَـٰهِرًۭا (the) apparent مِّنَ of ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ the life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world وَهُمْ but they عَنِ about ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ the Hereafter هُمْ [they] غَـٰفِلُونَ (are) heedless ٧
They know what is apparent of the worldly life, but they, of the Hereafter, are unaware.
— Come To Light
أَوَلَمْ Do not يَتَفَكَّرُوا۟ they ponder فِىٓ within أَنفُسِهِم ۗ themselves مَّا Not خَلَقَ Allah (has) created ٱللَّهُ Allah (has) created ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth وَمَا and what بَيْنَهُمَآ (is) between them إِلَّا except بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth وَأَجَلٍۢ and (for) a term مُّسَمًّۭى ۗ appointed وَإِنَّ And indeed كَثِيرًۭا many مِّنَ of ٱلنَّاسِ the people بِلِقَآئِ in (the) meeting رَبِّهِمْ (with) their Lord لَكَـٰفِرُونَ surely (are) disbelievers ٨
Do they not contemplate within themselves? Allāh has not created the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and for a specified term. And indeed, many of the people, in the meeting with their Lord, are disbelievers.
— Come To Light
أَوَلَمْ Have not يَسِيرُوا۟ they traveled فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth فَيَنظُرُوا۟ and observed كَيْفَ how كَانَ was عَـٰقِبَةُ (the) end ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those مِن before them قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ before them كَانُوٓا۟ They were أَشَدَّ mightier مِنْهُمْ than them قُوَّةًۭ (in) strength وَأَثَارُوا۟ and they dug ٱلْأَرْضَ the earth وَعَمَرُوهَآ and built (on) it أَكْثَرَ more مِمَّا than what عَمَرُوهَا they have built (on) it وَجَآءَتْهُمْ And came (to) them رُسُلُهُم their Messengers بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ ۖ with clear proofs فَمَا So not كَانَ was ٱللَّهُ Allah لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ to wrong them وَلَـٰكِن but كَانُوٓا۟ they were أَنفُسَهُمْ themselves يَظْلِمُونَ (doing) wrong ٩
Have they not traveled through the earth and observed how was the end of those before them? They were greater than them in power, and they plowed [or excavated] the earth and built it up more than they [i.e., the Makkans] have built it up, and their messengers came to them with clear evidences. And Allāh would not ever have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then كَانَ was عَـٰقِبَةَ (the) end ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who أَسَـٰٓـُٔوا۟ did evil ٱلسُّوٓأَىٰٓ the evil أَن because كَذَّبُوا۟ they denied بِـَٔايَـٰتِ (the) Signs ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah وَكَانُوا۟ and were بِهَا of them يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ making mockery ١٠
Then the end of those who did evil was the worst [consequence] because they denied the signs of Allāh and used to ridicule them.
— Come To Light
ٱللَّهُ Allah يَبْدَؤُا۟ originates ٱلْخَلْقَ the creation ثُمَّ then يُعِيدُهُۥ He repeats it ثُمَّ then إِلَيْهِ to Him تُرْجَعُونَ you will be returned ١١
Allāh begins creation; then He will repeat it; then to Him you will be returned.
— Come To Light
وَيَوْمَ And (the) Day تَقُومُ will (be) established ٱلسَّاعَةُ the Hour يُبْلِسُ will (be in) despair ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ the criminals ١٢
And the Day the Hour appears the criminals will be in despair.
— Come To Light
وَلَمْ And not يَكُن will be لَّهُم for them مِّن among شُرَكَآئِهِمْ theirs partners شُفَعَـٰٓؤُا۟ any intercessors وَكَانُوا۟ and they will be بِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ in their partners كَـٰفِرِينَ disbelievers ١٣
And there will not be for them among their [alleged] partners any intercessors, and they will [then] be disbelievers in their partners.
— Come To Light
وَيَوْمَ And (the) Day تَقُومُ will (be) established ٱلسَّاعَةُ the Hour يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that Day يَتَفَرَّقُونَ they will become separated ١٤
And the Day the Hour appears - that Day they will become separated.
— Come To Light
فَأَمَّا Then as for ٱلَّذِينَ those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believed وَعَمِلُوا۟ and did ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds فَهُمْ so they فِى in رَوْضَةٍۢ a Garden يُحْبَرُونَ will be delighted ١٥
And as for those who had believed and done righteous deeds, they will be in a garden [of Paradise], delighted.
— Come To Light
وَأَمَّا But as for ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved وَكَذَّبُوا۟ and denied بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا Our Signs وَلِقَآئِ and (the) meeting ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ (of) the Hereafter فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those فِى in ٱلْعَذَابِ the punishment مُحْضَرُونَ (will be) brought forth ١٦
But as for those who disbelieved and denied Our verses and the meeting of the Hereafter, those will be brought into the punishment [to remain].
— Come To Light
فَسُبْحَـٰنَ So glory be to ٱللَّهِ Allah حِينَ when تُمْسُونَ you reach the evening وَحِينَ and when تُصْبِحُونَ you reach the morning ١٧
So exalted is Allāh when you reach the evening and when you reach the morning.
— Come To Light
وَلَهُ And for Him ٱلْحَمْدُ (are) all praises فِى in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth وَعَشِيًّۭا and (at) night وَحِينَ and when تُظْهِرُونَ you are at noon ١٨
And to Him is [due all] praise throughout the heavens and the earth. And [exalted is He] at night and when you are at noon.
— Come To Light
يُخْرِجُ He brings forth ٱلْحَىَّ the living مِنَ from ٱلْمَيِّتِ the dead وَيُخْرِجُ and He brings forth ٱلْمَيِّتَ the dead مِنَ from ٱلْحَىِّ the living وَيُحْىِ and He gives life ٱلْأَرْضَ (to) the earth بَعْدَ after مَوْتِهَا ۚ its death وَكَذَٰلِكَ and thus تُخْرَجُونَ you will be brought forth ١٩
He brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living and brings to life the earth after its lifelessness. And thus will you be brought out.
— Come To Light
وَمِنْ And among ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ His Signs أَنْ (is) that خَلَقَكُم He created you مِّن from تُرَابٍۢ dust ثُمَّ then إِذَآ behold أَنتُم You بَشَرٌۭ (are) human beings تَنتَشِرُونَ dispersing ٢٠
And of His signs is that He created you from dust; then, suddenly you were human beings dispersing [throughout the earth].
— Come To Light
وَمِنْ And among ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ His Signs أَنْ (is) that خَلَقَ He created لَكُم for you مِّنْ from أَنفُسِكُمْ yourselves أَزْوَٰجًۭا mates لِّتَسْكُنُوٓا۟ that you may find tranquility إِلَيْهَا in them وَجَعَلَ and He placed بَيْنَكُم between you مَّوَدَّةًۭ love وَرَحْمَةً ۚ and mercy إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people يَتَفَكَّرُونَ who reflect ٢١
And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.
— Come To Light
وَمِنْ And among ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ His Signs خَلْقُ (is the) creation ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth وَٱخْتِلَـٰفُ and the diversity أَلْسِنَتِكُمْ (of) your languages وَأَلْوَٰنِكُمْ ۚ and your colors إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs لِّلْعَـٰلِمِينَ for those of knowledge ٢٢
And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and your colors. Indeed in that are signs for those of knowledge.
— Come To Light
وَمِنْ And among ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ His Signs مَنَامُكُم (is) your sleep بِٱلَّيْلِ by night وَٱلنَّهَارِ and the day وَٱبْتِغَآؤُكُم [and] your seeking مِّن of فَضْلِهِۦٓ ۚ His Bounty إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people يَسْمَعُونَ who listen ٢٣
And of His signs is your sleep by night and day and your seeking of His bounty. Indeed in that are signs for a people who listen.
— Come To Light
وَمِنْ And among ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ His Signs يُرِيكُمُ He shows you ٱلْبَرْقَ the lightning خَوْفًۭا (causing) fear وَطَمَعًۭا and hope وَيُنَزِّلُ and He sends down مِنَ from ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky مَآءًۭ water فَيُحْىِۦ and gives life بِهِ therewith ٱلْأَرْضَ (to) the earth بَعْدَ after مَوْتِهَآ ۚ its death إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people يَعْقِلُونَ who use intellect ٢٤
And of His signs is [that] He shows you the lightning [causing] fear and aspiration, and He sends down rain from the sky by which He brings to life the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed in that are signs for a people who use reason.
— Come To Light
وَمِنْ And among ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ His Signs أَن (is) that تَقُومَ stands ٱلسَّمَآءُ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضُ and the earth بِأَمْرِهِۦ ۚ by His Command ثُمَّ Then إِذَا when دَعَاكُمْ He calls you دَعْوَةًۭ (with) a call مِّنَ from ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth إِذَآ behold أَنتُمْ You تَخْرُجُونَ will come forth ٢٥
And of His signs is that the heaven and earth stand [i.e., remain] by His command. Then when He calls you with a [single] call from the earth, immediately you will come forth.
— Come To Light
وَلَهُۥ And to Him (belongs) مَن whoever فِى (is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ and the earth كُلٌّۭ All لَّهُۥ to Him قَـٰنِتُونَ (are) obedient ٢٦
And to Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and earth. All are to Him devoutly obedient.
— Come To Light
وَهُوَ And He ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who يَبْدَؤُا۟ originates ٱلْخَلْقَ the creation ثُمَّ then يُعِيدُهُۥ repeats it وَهُوَ and it أَهْوَنُ (is) easier عَلَيْهِ ۚ for Him وَلَهُ And for Him ٱلْمَثَلُ (is) the description ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ the highest فِى in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ and the earth وَهُوَ And He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلْحَكِيمُ the All-Wise ٢٧
And it is He who begins creation; then He repeats it, and that is [even] easier for Him. To Him belongs the highest description [i.e., attribute] in the heavens and earth. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
— Come To Light
ضَرَبَ He sets forth لَكُم to you مَّثَلًۭا an example مِّنْ from أَنفُسِكُمْ ۖ yourselves هَل Is لَّكُم for you مِّن among مَّا what مَلَكَتْ possess أَيْمَـٰنُكُم your right hands مِّن any شُرَكَآءَ partners فِى in مَا what رَزَقْنَـٰكُمْ We have provided you فَأَنتُمْ so you فِيهِ in it سَوَآءٌۭ (are) equal تَخَافُونَهُمْ you fear them كَخِيفَتِكُمْ as you fear أَنفُسَكُمْ ۚ yourselves كَذَٰلِكَ Thus نُفَصِّلُ We explain ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ the Verses لِقَوْمٍۢ for a people يَعْقِلُونَ (who) use reason ٢٨
He presents to you an example from yourselves. Do you have among those whom your right hands possess [i.e., slaves] any partners in what We have provided for you so that you are equal therein [and] would fear them as your fear of one another [within a partnership]? Thus do We detail the verses for a people who use reason.
— Come To Light
بَلِ Nay ٱتَّبَعَ follow ٱلَّذِينَ those who ظَلَمُوٓا۟ do wrong أَهْوَآءَهُم their desires بِغَيْرِ without عِلْمٍۢ ۖ knowledge فَمَن Then who يَهْدِى (can) guide مَنْ (one) whom أَضَلَّ Allah has let go astray ٱللَّهُ ۖ Allah has let go astray وَمَا And not لَهُم for them مِّن any نَّـٰصِرِينَ helpers ٢٩
But those who wrong follow their [own] desires without knowledge. Then who can guide one whom Allāh has sent astray? And for them there are no helpers.
— Come To Light
فَأَقِمْ So set وَجْهَكَ your face لِلدِّينِ to the religion حَنِيفًۭا ۚ upright فِطْرَتَ Nature ٱللَّهِ (made by) Allah ٱلَّتِى (upon) which فَطَرَ He has created ٱلنَّاسَ mankind عَلَيْهَا ۚ [on it] لَا No تَبْدِيلَ change لِخَلْقِ (should there be) in the creation ٱللَّهِ ۚ (of) Allah ذَٰلِكَ That ٱلدِّينُ (is) the religion ٱلْقَيِّمُ the correct وَلَـٰكِنَّ but أَكْثَرَ most ٱلنَّاسِ men لَا (do) not يَعْلَمُونَ know ٣٠
So direct your face [i.e., self] toward the religion, inclining to truth. [Adhere to] the fiṭrah of Allāh upon which He has created [all] people. No change should there be in the creation of Allāh. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know.
— Come To Light
۞ مُنِيبِينَ Turning إِلَيْهِ to Him وَٱتَّقُوهُ and fear Him وَأَقِيمُوا۟ and establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer وَلَا and (do) not تَكُونُوا۟ be مِنَ of ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ the polytheists ٣١
[Adhere to it], turning in repentance to Him, and fear Him and establish prayer and do not be of those who associate others with Allāh
— Come To Light
مِنَ Of ٱلَّذِينَ those who فَرَّقُوا۟ divide دِينَهُمْ their religion وَكَانُوا۟ and become شِيَعًۭا ۖ sects كُلُّ each حِزْبٍۭ party بِمَا in what لَدَيْهِمْ they have فَرِحُونَ rejoicing ٣٢
[Or] of those who have divided their religion and become sects, every faction rejoicing in what it has.
— Come To Light
وَإِذَا And when مَسَّ touches ٱلنَّاسَ people ضُرٌّۭ hardship دَعَوْا۟ they call رَبَّهُم their Lord مُّنِيبِينَ turning إِلَيْهِ to Him ثُمَّ Then إِذَآ when أَذَاقَهُم He causes them to taste مِّنْهُ from Him رَحْمَةً Mercy إِذَا behold فَرِيقٌۭ A party مِّنْهُم of them بِرَبِّهِمْ with their Lord يُشْرِكُونَ associate partners ٣٣
And when adversity touches the people, they call upon their Lord, turning in repentance to Him. Then when He lets them taste mercy from Him, at once a party of them associate others with their Lord,
— Come To Light
لِيَكْفُرُوا۟ So as to deny بِمَآ [in] what ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ ۚ We have granted them فَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ Then enjoy فَسَوْفَ but soon تَعْلَمُونَ you will know ٣٤
So that they will deny what We have granted them. Then enjoy yourselves, for you are going to know.
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or أَنزَلْنَا have We sent عَلَيْهِمْ to them سُلْطَـٰنًۭا an authority فَهُوَ and it يَتَكَلَّمُ speaks بِمَا of what كَانُوا۟ they were بِهِۦ with Him يُشْرِكُونَ associating ٣٥
Or have We sent down to them an authority [i.e., a proof or scripture], and it speaks of what they have been associating with Him?
— Come To Light
وَإِذَآ And when أَذَقْنَا We cause people to taste ٱلنَّاسَ We cause people to taste رَحْمَةًۭ mercy فَرِحُوا۟ they rejoice بِهَا ۖ therein وَإِن But if تُصِبْهُمْ afflicts them سَيِّئَةٌۢ an evil بِمَا for what قَدَّمَتْ have sent forth أَيْدِيهِمْ their hands إِذَا behold هُمْ They يَقْنَطُونَ despair ٣٦
And when We let the people taste mercy, they rejoice therein, but if evil afflicts them for what their hands have put forth, immediately they despair.
— Come To Light
أَوَلَمْ Do not يَرَوْا۟ they see أَنَّ that ٱللَّهَ Allah يَبْسُطُ extends ٱلرِّزْقَ the provision لِمَن for whom يَشَآءُ He wills وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ and straitens (it) إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people يُؤْمِنُونَ who believe ٣٧
Do they not see that Allāh extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]? Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.
— Come To Light
فَـَٔاتِ So give ذَا the relative ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ the relative حَقَّهُۥ his right وَٱلْمِسْكِينَ and the poor وَٱبْنَ and the wayfarer ٱلسَّبِيلِ ۚ and the wayfarer ذَٰلِكَ That خَيْرٌۭ (is) best لِّلَّذِينَ for those who يُرِيدُونَ desire وَجْهَ (the) Countenance ٱللَّهِ ۖ (of) Allah وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ And those هُمُ they ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ (are) the successful ones ٣٨
So give the relative his right, as well as the needy and the traveler. That is best for those who desire the face [i.e., approval] of Allāh, and it is they who will be the successful.
— Come To Light
وَمَآ And what ءَاتَيْتُم you give مِّن for رِّبًۭا usury لِّيَرْبُوَا۟ to increase فِىٓ in أَمْوَٰلِ (the) wealth ٱلنَّاسِ (of) people فَلَا not يَرْبُوا۟ (will) increase عِندَ with ٱللَّهِ ۖ Allah وَمَآ But what ءَاتَيْتُم you give مِّن of زَكَوٰةٍۢ zakah تُرِيدُونَ desiring وَجْهَ (the) Countenance ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those هُمُ [they] ٱلْمُضْعِفُونَ (will) get manifold ٣٩
And whatever you give for interest [i.e., advantage] to increase within the wealth of people will not increase with Allāh. But what you give in zakāh, desiring the face [i.e., approval] of Allāh - those are the multipliers.
— Come To Light
ٱللَّهُ Allah ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who خَلَقَكُمْ created you ثُمَّ then رَزَقَكُمْ He provided (for) you ثُمَّ then يُمِيتُكُمْ He will cause you to die ثُمَّ then يُحْيِيكُمْ ۖ He will give you life هَلْ Is (there) مِن any شُرَكَآئِكُم (of) your partners مَّن who يَفْعَلُ does مِن of ذَٰلِكُم that مِّن any شَىْءٍۢ ۚ thing سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ Glory be to Him وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ and exalted is He عَمَّا above what يُشْرِكُونَ they associate ٤٠
Allāh is the one who created you, then provided for you, then will cause you to die, and then will give you life. Are there any of your "partners" who does anything of that? Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him.
— Come To Light
ظَهَرَ Has appeared ٱلْفَسَادُ the corruption فِى in ٱلْبَرِّ the land وَٱلْبَحْرِ and the sea بِمَا for what كَسَبَتْ have earned أَيْدِى (the) hands ٱلنَّاسِ (of) people لِيُذِيقَهُم so that He may let them taste بَعْضَ a part ٱلَّذِى (of) that which عَمِلُوا۟ they have done لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may يَرْجِعُونَ return ٤١
Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He [i.e., Allāh] may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness].
— Come To Light
قُلْ Say سِيرُوا۟ Travel فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth فَٱنظُرُوا۟ and see كَيْفَ how كَانَ was عَـٰقِبَةُ (the) end ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who مِن (were) before قَبْلُ ۚ (were) before كَانَ Most of them were أَكْثَرُهُم Most of them were مُّشْرِكِينَ polytheists ٤٢
Say, [O Muḥammad], "Travel through the land and observe how was the end of those before. Most of them were associators [of others with Allāh].
— Come To Light
فَأَقِمْ So set وَجْهَكَ your face لِلدِّينِ to the religion ٱلْقَيِّمِ right مِن before قَبْلِ before أَن [that] يَأْتِىَ comes يَوْمٌۭ a Day لَّا not مَرَدَّ (can be) averted لَهُۥ [it] مِنَ from ٱللَّهِ ۖ Allah يَوْمَئِذٍۢ That Day يَصَّدَّعُونَ they will be divided ٤٣
So direct your face [i.e., self] toward the correct religion before a Day comes from Allāh of which there is no repelling. That Day, they will be divided.
— Come To Light
مَن Whoever كَفَرَ disbelieves فَعَلَيْهِ then against him كُفْرُهُۥ ۖ (is) his disbelief وَمَنْ And whoever عَمِلَ does صَـٰلِحًۭا righteousness فَلِأَنفُسِهِمْ then for themselves يَمْهَدُونَ they are preparing ٤٤
Whoever disbelieves - upon him is [the consequence of] his disbelief. And whoever does righteousness - they are for themselves preparing,
— Come To Light
لِيَجْزِىَ That He may reward ٱلَّذِينَ those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds مِن (out) of فَضْلِهِۦٓ ۚ His Bounty إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He لَا (does) not يُحِبُّ like ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers ٤٥
That He may reward those who have believed and done righteous deeds out of His bounty. Indeed, He does not like the disbelievers.
— Come To Light
وَمِنْ And among ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ His Signs أَن (is) that يُرْسِلَ He sends ٱلرِّيَاحَ the winds مُبَشِّرَٰتٍۢ (as) bearers of glad tidings وَلِيُذِيقَكُم and to let you taste مِّن of رَّحْمَتِهِۦ His Mercy وَلِتَجْرِىَ and that may sail ٱلْفُلْكُ the ships بِأَمْرِهِۦ at His Command وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟ and that you may seek مِن of فَضْلِهِۦ His Bounty وَلَعَلَّكُمْ and that you may تَشْكُرُونَ be grateful ٤٦
And of His signs is that He sends the winds as bringers of good tidings and to let you taste His mercy [i.e., rain] and so the ships may sail at His command and so you may seek of His bounty, and perhaps you will be grateful.
— Come To Light
وَلَقَدْ And verily أَرْسَلْنَا We sent مِن before you قَبْلِكَ before you رُسُلًا Messengers إِلَىٰ to قَوْمِهِمْ their people فَجَآءُوهُم and they came to them بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ with clear proofs فَٱنتَقَمْنَا then We took retribution مِنَ from ٱلَّذِينَ those who أَجْرَمُوا۟ ۖ committed crimes وَكَانَ And it was حَقًّا incumbent عَلَيْنَا upon Us نَصْرُ (to) help ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers ٤٧
And We have already sent messengers before you to their peoples, and they came to them with clear evidences; then We took retribution from those who committed crimes, and incumbent upon Us was support of the believers.
— Come To Light
ٱللَّهُ Allah ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who يُرْسِلُ sends ٱلرِّيَـٰحَ the winds فَتُثِيرُ so they raise سَحَابًۭا (the) clouds فَيَبْسُطُهُۥ then He spreads them فِى in ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky كَيْفَ how يَشَآءُ He wills وَيَجْعَلُهُۥ and He makes them كِسَفًۭا fragments فَتَرَى so you see ٱلْوَدْقَ the rain يَخْرُجُ coming forth مِنْ from خِلَـٰلِهِۦ ۖ their midst فَإِذَآ Then when أَصَابَ He causes it to fall on بِهِۦ He causes it to fall on مَن whom يَشَآءُ He wills مِنْ of عِبَادِهِۦٓ His slaves إِذَا behold هُمْ They يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ rejoice ٤٨
It is Allāh who sends the winds, and they stir the clouds and spread them in the sky however He wills, and He makes them fragments so you see the rain emerge from within them. And when He causes it to fall upon whom He wills of His servants, immediately they rejoice
— Come To Light
وَإِن And certainly كَانُوا۟ they were مِن before قَبْلِ before أَن [that] يُنَزَّلَ it was sent down عَلَيْهِم upon them مِّن [before it] قَبْلِهِۦ [before it] لَمُبْلِسِينَ surely in despair ٤٩
Although they were, before it was sent down upon them - before that, in despair.
— Come To Light
فَٱنظُرْ So look إِلَىٰٓ at ءَاثَـٰرِ (the) effects رَحْمَتِ (of the) Mercy ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah كَيْفَ how يُحْىِ He gives life ٱلْأَرْضَ (to) the earth بَعْدَ after مَوْتِهَآ ۚ its death إِنَّ Indeed ذَٰلِكَ that لَمُحْىِ surely He (will) give life ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ ۖ (to) the dead وَهُوَ And He عَلَىٰ (is) on كُلِّ every شَىْءٍۢ thing قَدِيرٌۭ All-Powerful ٥٠
So observe the effects of the mercy of Allāh - how He gives life to the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed, that [same one] will give life to the dead, and He is over all things competent.
— Come To Light
وَلَئِنْ But if أَرْسَلْنَا We sent رِيحًۭا a wind فَرَأَوْهُ and they see it مُصْفَرًّۭا turn yellow لَّظَلُّوا۟ certainly they continue مِنۢ after it بَعْدِهِۦ after it يَكْفُرُونَ (in) disbelief ٥١
But if We should send a [bad] wind and they saw [their crops] turned yellow, they would remain thereafter disbelievers.
— Come To Light
فَإِنَّكَ So indeed, you لَا (can) not تُسْمِعُ make the dead hear ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ make the dead hear وَلَا and not تُسْمِعُ make the deaf hear ٱلصُّمَّ make the deaf hear ٱلدُّعَآءَ the call إِذَا when وَلَّوْا۟ they turn مُدْبِرِينَ retreating ٥٢
So indeed, you will not make the dead hear, nor will you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs, retreating.
— Come To Light
وَمَآ And not أَنتَ you بِهَـٰدِ can guide ٱلْعُمْىِ the blind عَن from ضَلَـٰلَتِهِمْ ۖ their error إِن Not تُسْمِعُ you can make hear إِلَّا except مَن (those) who يُؤْمِنُ believe بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا in Our Verses فَهُم so they مُّسْلِمُونَ surrender ٥٣
And you cannot guide the blind away from their error. You will only make hear those who believe in Our verses so they are Muslims [in submission to Allāh].
— Come To Light
۞ ٱللَّهُ Allah ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who خَلَقَكُم created you مِّن from ضَعْفٍۢ weakness ثُمَّ then جَعَلَ made مِنۢ after بَعْدِ after ضَعْفٍۢ weakness قُوَّةًۭ strength ثُمَّ then جَعَلَ made مِنۢ after بَعْدِ after قُوَّةٍۢ strength ضَعْفًۭا weakness وَشَيْبَةًۭ ۚ and gray hair يَخْلُقُ He creates مَا what يَشَآءُ ۖ He wills وَهُوَ and He ٱلْعَلِيمُ (is) the All-Knower ٱلْقَدِيرُ the All-Powerful ٥٤
Allāh is the one who created you from weakness, then made after weakness strength, then made after strength weakness and white hair. He creates what He wills, and He is the Knowing, the Competent.
— Come To Light
وَيَوْمَ And (the) Day تَقُومُ will (be) established ٱلسَّاعَةُ the Hour يُقْسِمُ will swear ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ the criminals مَا not لَبِثُوا۟ they remained غَيْرَ but سَاعَةٍۢ ۚ an hour كَذَٰلِكَ Thus كَانُوا۟ they were يُؤْفَكُونَ deluded ٥٥
And the Day the Hour appears the criminals will swear they had remained but an hour. Thus they were deluded.
— Come To Light
وَقَالَ But will say ٱلَّذِينَ those who أُوتُوا۟ were given ٱلْعِلْمَ the knowledge وَٱلْإِيمَـٰنَ and the faith لَقَدْ Verily لَبِثْتُمْ you remained فِى by كِتَـٰبِ (the) Decree ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah إِلَىٰ until يَوْمِ (the) Day ٱلْبَعْثِ ۖ (of) Resurrection فَهَـٰذَا And this يَوْمُ (is the) Day ٱلْبَعْثِ (of) the Resurrection وَلَـٰكِنَّكُمْ but you كُنتُمْ were لَا not تَعْلَمُونَ knowing ٥٦
But those who were given knowledge and faith will say, "You remained the extent of Allāh's decree until the Day of Resurrection, and this is the Day of Resurrection, but you did not used to know."
— Come To Light
فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ So that Day لَّا not يَنفَعُ will profit ٱلَّذِينَ those who ظَلَمُوا۟ wronged مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ their excuses وَلَا and not هُمْ they يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ will be allowed to make amends ٥٧
So that Day, their excuse will not benefit those who wronged, nor will they be asked to appease [Allāh].
— Come To Light
وَلَقَدْ And verily ضَرَبْنَا We (have) set forth لِلنَّاسِ for mankind فِى in هَـٰذَا this ٱلْقُرْءَانِ [the] Quran مِن of كُلِّ every مَثَلٍۢ ۚ example وَلَئِن But if جِئْتَهُم you bring them بِـَٔايَةٍۢ a sign لَّيَقُولَنَّ surely will say ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوٓا۟ disbelieve إِنْ Not أَنتُمْ you إِلَّا (are) except مُبْطِلُونَ falsifiers ٥٨
And We have certainly presented to the people in this Qur’ān from every [kind of] example. But, [O Muḥammad], if you should bring them a sign, the disbelievers will surely say, "You [believers] are but falsifiers."
— Come To Light
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus يَطْبَعُ Allah seals ٱللَّهُ Allah seals عَلَىٰ [on] قُلُوبِ (the) hearts ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who لَا (do) not يَعْلَمُونَ know ٥٩
Thus does Allāh seal the hearts of those who do not know.
— Come To Light
فَٱصْبِرْ So be patient إِنَّ Indeed وَعْدَ (the) Promise ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah حَقٌّۭ ۖ (is) true وَلَا And (let) not يَسْتَخِفَّنَّكَ take you in light estimation ٱلَّذِينَ those who لَا (are) not يُوقِنُونَ certain in faith ٦٠
So be patient. Indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth. And let them not disquiet you who are not certain [in faith].
— Come To Light
