The Thunder · Madani · 43 Ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
الٓمٓر ۚ Alif Laam Mim Ra تِلْكَ These ءَايَـٰتُ (are) the Verses ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ۗ (of) the Book وَٱلَّذِىٓ And that which أُنزِلَ has been revealed إِلَيْكَ to you مِن from رَّبِّكَ your Lord ٱلْحَقُّ (is) the truth وَلَـٰكِنَّ but أَكْثَرَ most ٱلنَّاسِ (of) the mankind لَا (do) not يُؤْمِنُونَ believe ١
Alif, Lām, Meem, Rā. These are the verses of the Book; and what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth, but most of the people do not believe.
— Come To Light
ٱللَّهُ Allah ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who رَفَعَ raised ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens بِغَيْرِ without عَمَدٍۢ pillars تَرَوْنَهَا ۖ that you see ثُمَّ then ٱسْتَوَىٰ He established عَلَى on ٱلْعَرْشِ ۖ the Throne وَسَخَّرَ and subjected ٱلشَّمْسَ the sun وَٱلْقَمَرَ ۖ and the moon كُلٌّۭ each يَجْرِى running لِأَجَلٍۢ for a term مُّسَمًّۭى ۚ appointed يُدَبِّرُ He arranges ٱلْأَمْرَ the matter يُفَصِّلُ He details ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ the Signs لَعَلَّكُم so that you may بِلِقَآءِ in the meeting رَبِّكُمْ (with) your Lord تُوقِنُونَ believe with certainty ٢
It is Allāh who erected the heavens without pillars that you [can] see; then He established Himself above the Throne and made subject the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term. He arranges [each] matter; He details the signs that you may, of the meeting with your Lord, be certain.
— Come To Light
وَهُوَ And He ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who مَدَّ spread ٱلْأَرْضَ the earth وَجَعَلَ and placed فِيهَا in it رَوَٰسِىَ firm mountains وَأَنْهَـٰرًۭا ۖ and rivers وَمِن and from كُلِّ all ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ (of) the fruits جَعَلَ He made فِيهَا in it زَوْجَيْنِ pairs ٱثْنَيْنِ ۖ two يُغْشِى He covers ٱلَّيْلَ the night ٱلنَّهَارَ ۚ (with) the day إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people يَتَفَكَّرُونَ who ponder ٣
And it is He who spread the earth and placed therein firmly set mountains and rivers; and from all of the fruits He made therein two mates; He causes the night to cover the day. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.
— Come To Light
وَفِى And in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth قِطَعٌۭ are tracks مُّتَجَـٰوِرَٰتٌۭ neighboring وَجَنَّـٰتٌۭ and gardens مِّنْ of أَعْنَـٰبٍۢ grapevines وَزَرْعٌۭ and crops وَنَخِيلٌۭ and date-palms صِنْوَانٌۭ trees (growing) from a single root وَغَيْرُ and not صِنْوَانٍۢ trees (growing) from a single root يُسْقَىٰ watered بِمَآءٍۢ with water وَٰحِدٍۢ one وَنُفَضِّلُ but We cause to exceed بَعْضَهَا some of them عَلَىٰ over بَعْضٍۢ others فِى in ٱلْأُكُلِ ۚ the fruit إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs لِّقَوْمٍۢ for a people يَعْقِلُونَ who use reason ٤
And within the land are neighboring plots and gardens of grapevines and crops and palm trees, [growing] several from a root or otherwise, watered with one water; but We make some of them exceed others in [quality of] fruit. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason.
— Come To Light
۞ وَإِن And if تَعْجَبْ you (are) astonished فَعَجَبٌۭ then astonishing قَوْلُهُمْ (is) their saying أَءِذَا When كُنَّا we are تُرَٰبًا dust أَءِنَّا will we لَفِى (be) indeed, in خَلْقٍۢ a creation جَدِيدٍ ۗ new أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ٱلَّذِينَ (are) the ones who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved بِرَبِّهِمْ ۖ in their Lord وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ and those ٱلْأَغْلَـٰلُ the iron chains فِىٓ (will be) in أَعْنَاقِهِمْ ۖ their necks وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those أَصْحَـٰبُ (are the) companions ٱلنَّارِ ۖ (of) the Fire هُمْ they فِيهَا in it خَـٰلِدُونَ (will) abide forever ٥
And if you are astonished, [O Muḥammad] - then astonishing is their saying, "When we are dust, will we indeed be [brought] into a new creation?" Those are the ones who have disbelieved in their Lord, and those will have shackles upon their necks, and those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.
— Come To Light
وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ And they ask you to hasten بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ the evil قَبْلَ before ٱلْحَسَنَةِ the good وَقَدْ and verily خَلَتْ has occurred مِن from قَبْلِهِمُ before them ٱلْمَثُلَـٰتُ ۗ [the] similar punishments وَإِنَّ And indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَذُو (is) full مَغْفِرَةٍۢ (of) forgiveness لِّلنَّاسِ for mankind عَلَىٰ for ظُلْمِهِمْ ۖ their wrongdoing وَإِنَّ and indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَشَدِيدُ (is) severe ٱلْعِقَابِ (in) the penalty ٦
They impatiently urge you to bring about evil before good, while there has already occurred before them similar punishments [to what they demand]. And indeed, your Lord is the possessor of forgiveness for the people despite their wrongdoing, and indeed, your Lord is severe in penalty.
— Come To Light
وَيَقُولُ And say ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved لَوْلَآ Why not أُنزِلَ has been sent down عَلَيْهِ to him ءَايَةٌۭ a sign مِّن from رَّبِّهِۦٓ ۗ his Lord إِنَّمَآ Only أَنتَ you مُنذِرٌۭ ۖ (are) a warner وَلِكُلِّ and for every قَوْمٍ people هَادٍ (is) a guide ٧
And those who disbelieved say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" You are only a warner, and for every people is a guide.
— Come To Light
ٱللَّهُ Allah يَعْلَمُ knows مَا what تَحْمِلُ carries كُلُّ every أُنثَىٰ female وَمَا and what تَغِيضُ fall short ٱلْأَرْحَامُ the womb وَمَا and what تَزْدَادُ ۖ they exceed وَكُلُّ And every شَىْءٍ thing عِندَهُۥ with Him بِمِقْدَارٍ (is) in due proportion ٨
Allāh knows what every female carries and what the wombs lose [prematurely] or exceed. And everything with Him is by due measure.
— Come To Light
عَـٰلِمُ Knower ٱلْغَيْبِ (of) the unseen وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ and the witnessed ٱلْكَبِيرُ the Most Great ٱلْمُتَعَالِ the Most High ٩
[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Grand, the Exalted.
— Come To Light
سَوَآءٌۭ (It is) same (to Him) مِّنكُم [of you] مَّنْ (one) who أَسَرَّ conceals ٱلْقَوْلَ the speech وَمَن or (one) who جَهَرَ publicizes بِهِۦ it وَمَنْ and (one) who هُوَ [he] مُسْتَخْفٍۭ (is) hidden بِٱلَّيْلِ by night وَسَارِبٌۢ or goes freely بِٱلنَّهَارِ by day ١٠
It is the same [to Him] concerning you whether one conceals [his] speech or publicizes it and whether one is hidden by night or conspicuous [among others] by day.
— Come To Light
لَهُۥ For him مُعَقِّبَـٰتٌۭ (are) successive (Angels) مِّنۢ from بَيْنِ (before) يَدَيْهِ (him) وَمِنْ and from خَلْفِهِۦ and behind him يَحْفَظُونَهُۥ who guard him مِنْ by أَمْرِ (the) command ٱللَّهِ ۗ (of) Allah إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah لَا (does) not يُغَيِّرُ change مَا (the condition) بِقَوْمٍ of a people حَتَّىٰ until يُغَيِّرُوا۟ they change مَا what بِأَنفُسِهِمْ ۗ (is) in themselves وَإِذَآ And when أَرَادَ wills ٱللَّهُ Allah بِقَوْمٍۢ for a people سُوٓءًۭا misfortune فَلَا then (there is) no مَرَدَّ turning away لَهُۥ ۚ of it وَمَا and not لَهُم for them مِّن from دُونِهِۦ besides Him مِن any وَالٍ protector ١١
For him [i.e., each one] are successive [angels] before and behind him who protect him by the decree of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allāh intends for a people ill, there is no repelling it. And there is not for them besides Him any patron.
— Come To Light
هُوَ He ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who يُرِيكُمُ shows you ٱلْبَرْقَ the lightning خَوْفًۭا a fear وَطَمَعًۭا and a hope وَيُنشِئُ and brings up ٱلسَّحَابَ the clouds ٱلثِّقَالَ the heavy ١٢
It is He who shows you lightning, [causing] fear and aspiration, and generates the heavy clouds.
— Come To Light
وَيُسَبِّحُ And glorifies ٱلرَّعْدُ the thunder بِحَمْدِهِۦ with his praise وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ and the Angels مِنْ for خِيفَتِهِۦ fear of Him وَيُرْسِلُ And He sends ٱلصَّوَٰعِقَ the thunderbolts فَيُصِيبُ and strikes بِهَا with it مَن whom يَشَآءُ He wills وَهُمْ yet they يُجَـٰدِلُونَ dispute فِى about ٱللَّهِ Allah وَهُوَ And He شَدِيدُ (is) Mighty ٱلْمِحَالِ (in) Strength ١٣
And the thunder exalts [Allāh] with praise of Him - and the angels [as well] from fear of Him - and He sends thunderbolts and strikes therewith whom He wills while they dispute about Allāh; and He is severe in assault.
— Come To Light
لَهُۥ To Him دَعْوَةُ (is) supplication ٱلْحَقِّ ۖ (of) the truth وَٱلَّذِينَ And those whom يَدْعُونَ they invoke مِن besides Him دُونِهِۦ besides Him لَا not يَسْتَجِيبُونَ they respond لَهُم to them بِشَىْءٍ with a thing إِلَّا except كَبَـٰسِطِ like one who stretches كَفَّيْهِ his hands إِلَى towards ٱلْمَآءِ water لِيَبْلُغَ to reach فَاهُ his mouth وَمَا but not هُوَ it بِبَـٰلِغِهِۦ ۚ reaches it وَمَا And not دُعَآءُ (is) the supplication ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ (of) the disbelievers إِلَّا but فِى in ضَلَـٰلٍۢ error ١٤
To Him [alone] is the supplication of truth. And those they call upon besides Him do not respond to them with a thing, except as one who stretches his hands toward water [from afar, calling it] to reach his mouth, but it will not reach it [thus]. And the supplication of the disbelievers is not but in error [i.e., futility].
— Come To Light
وَلِلَّهِ And to Allah يَسْجُدُ prostrates مَن whoever فِى (is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth طَوْعًۭا willingly وَكَرْهًۭا or unwillingly وَظِلَـٰلُهُم and (so do) their shadows بِٱلْغُدُوِّ in the mornings وَٱلْـَٔاصَالِ ۩ and in the afternoons ١٥
And to Allāh prostrates whoever is within the heavens and the earth, willingly or by compulsion, and their shadows [as well] in the mornings and the afternoons.
— Come To Light
قُلْ Say مَن Who رَّبُّ (is) the Lord ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth قُلِ Say ٱللَّهُ ۚ Allah قُلْ Say أَفَٱتَّخَذْتُم Have you then taken مِّن from دُونِهِۦٓ besides Him أَوْلِيَآءَ protectors لَا not يَمْلِكُونَ they have power لِأَنفُسِهِمْ for themselves نَفْعًۭا (to) benefit وَلَا and not ضَرًّۭا ۚ (to) harm قُلْ Say هَلْ Is يَسْتَوِى equal ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ the blind وَٱلْبَصِيرُ and the seeing أَمْ Or هَلْ is تَسْتَوِى equal ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتُ the darkness[es] وَٱلنُّورُ ۗ and the light أَمْ Or جَعَلُوا۟ they attribute لِلَّهِ to Allah شُرَكَآءَ partners خَلَقُوا۟ who created كَخَلْقِهِۦ like His creation فَتَشَـٰبَهَ so that seemed alike ٱلْخَلْقُ the creation عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ to them قُلِ Say ٱللَّهُ Allah خَـٰلِقُ (is) the Creator كُلِّ of all شَىْءٍۢ things وَهُوَ and He ٱلْوَٰحِدُ (is) the One ٱلْقَهَّـٰرُ the Irresistible ١٦
Say, "Who is Lord of the heavens and earth?" Say, "Allāh." Say, "Have you then taken besides Him allies not possessing [even] for themselves any benefit or any harm?" Say, "Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Or is darkness equivalent to light? Or have they attributed to Allāh partners who created like His creation so that the creation [of each] seemed similar to them?" Say, "Allāh is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Prevailing."
— Come To Light
أَنزَلَ He sends down مِنَ from ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky مَآءًۭ water فَسَالَتْ and flows أَوْدِيَةٌۢ the valleys بِقَدَرِهَا according to their measure فَٱحْتَمَلَ and carries ٱلسَّيْلُ the torrent زَبَدًۭا a foam رَّابِيًۭا ۚ rising وَمِمَّا And from what يُوقِدُونَ they heat عَلَيْهِ [on] it فِى in ٱلنَّارِ the fire ٱبْتِغَآءَ in order to make حِلْيَةٍ ornaments أَوْ or مَتَـٰعٍۢ utensils زَبَدٌۭ a foam مِّثْلُهُۥ ۚ like it كَذَٰلِكَ Thus يَضْرِبُ sets forth ٱللَّهُ Allah ٱلْحَقَّ the truth وَٱلْبَـٰطِلَ ۚ and the falsehood فَأَمَّا Then as for ٱلزَّبَدُ the foam فَيَذْهَبُ it passes away جُفَآءًۭ ۖ (as) scum وَأَمَّا and as for مَا what يَنفَعُ benefits ٱلنَّاسَ the mankind فَيَمْكُثُ remains فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ the earth كَذَٰلِكَ Thus يَضْرِبُ Allah sets forth ٱللَّهُ Allah sets forth ٱلْأَمْثَالَ the examples ١٧
He sends down from the sky, rain, and valleys flow according to their capacity, and the torrent carries a rising foam. And from that [ore] which they heat in the fire, desiring adornments and utensils, is a foam like it. Thus Allāh presents [the example of] truth and falsehood. As for the foam, it vanishes, [being] cast off; but as for that which benefits the people, it remains on the earth. Thus does Allāh present examples.
— Come To Light
لِلَّذِينَ For those who ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ responded لِرَبِّهِمُ to their Lord ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ (is) the bliss وَٱلَّذِينَ And for those who لَمْ (did) not يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ respond لَهُۥ to Him لَوْ if أَنَّ that لَهُم they had مَّا whatever فِى (is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth جَمِيعًۭا all وَمِثْلَهُۥ and like of it مَعَهُۥ with it لَٱفْتَدَوْا۟ surely they would offer ransom بِهِۦٓ ۚ with it أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those لَهُمْ for them سُوٓءُ (is) a terrible ٱلْحِسَابِ reckoning وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْ and their abode جَهَنَّمُ ۖ (is) Hell وَبِئْسَ and wretched ٱلْمِهَادُ (is) the resting place ١٨
For those who have responded to their Lord is the best [reward], but those who did not respond to Him - if they had all that is in the earth entirely and the like of it with it, they would [attempt to] ransom themselves thereby. Those will have the worst account, and their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.
— Come To Light
۞ أَفَمَن Then is (he) who يَعْلَمُ knows أَنَّمَآ that which أُنزِلَ has been revealed إِلَيْكَ to you مِن from رَّبِّكَ your Lord ٱلْحَقُّ (is) the truth كَمَنْ like (one) who هُوَ [he] أَعْمَىٰٓ ۚ (is) blind إِنَّمَا Only يَتَذَكَّرُ pay heed أُو۟لُوا۟ men ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ (of) understanding ١٩
Then is he who knows that what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth like one who is blind? They will only be reminded who are people of understanding -
— Come To Light
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who يُوفُونَ fulfill بِعَهْدِ the covenant ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah وَلَا and not يَنقُضُونَ they break ٱلْمِيثَـٰقَ the contract ٢٠
Those who fulfill the covenant of Allāh and do not break the contract,
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who يَصِلُونَ join مَآ what أَمَرَ (has been) commanded ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah بِهِۦٓ [for it] أَن to يُوصَلَ be joined وَيَخْشَوْنَ and fear رَبَّهُمْ their Lord وَيَخَافُونَ and are afraid سُوٓءَ (of) the evil ٱلْحِسَابِ the account ٢١
And those who join that which Allāh has ordered to be joined and fear their Lord and are afraid of the evil of [their] account,
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who صَبَرُوا۟ (are) patient ٱبْتِغَآءَ seeking وَجْهِ (the) Face رَبِّهِمْ (of) their Lord وَأَقَامُوا۟ and establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer وَأَنفَقُوا۟ and spend مِمَّا from what رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ We have provided them سِرًّۭا secretly وَعَلَانِيَةًۭ and publicly وَيَدْرَءُونَ and they repel بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ with the good ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ the evil أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those لَهُمْ for them عُقْبَى (is) the final attainment ٱلدَّارِ (of) the Home ٢٢
And those who are patient, seeking the face [i.e., acceptance] of their Lord, and establish prayer and spend from what We have provided for them secretly and publicly and prevent evil with good - those will have the good consequence of [this] home -
— Come To Light
جَنَّـٰتُ Gardens عَدْنٍۢ of Eden يَدْخُلُونَهَا they will enter them وَمَن and whoever صَلَحَ (were) righteous مِنْ among ءَابَآئِهِمْ their fathers وَأَزْوَٰجِهِمْ and their spouses وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِهِمْ ۖ and their offsprings وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ And the Angels يَدْخُلُونَ will enter عَلَيْهِم upon them مِّن from كُلِّ every بَابٍۢ gate ٢٣
Gardens of perpetual residence; they will enter them with whoever were righteous among their forefathers, their spouses and their descendants. And the angels will enter upon them from every gate, [saying],
— Come To Light
سَلَـٰمٌ (Saying), "Peace عَلَيْكُم (be) upon you بِمَا for what صَبَرْتُمْ ۚ you patiently endured فَنِعْمَ And excellent عُقْبَى (is) the final attainment ٱلدَّارِ (of) the Home ٢٤
"Peace [i.e., security] be upon you for what you patiently endured. And excellent is the final home."
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who يَنقُضُونَ break عَهْدَ the covenant ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah مِنۢ from بَعْدِ after مِيثَـٰقِهِۦ contracting it وَيَقْطَعُونَ and sever مَآ what أَمَرَ (has been) commanded ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah بِهِۦٓ for it أَن to يُوصَلَ be joined وَيُفْسِدُونَ and spread corruption فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ ۙ the earth أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those لَهُمُ for them ٱللَّعْنَةُ (is) the curse وَلَهُمْ and for them سُوٓءُ (is) an evil ٱلدَّارِ home ٢٥
But those who break the covenant of Allāh after contracting it and sever that which Allāh has ordered to be joined and spread corruption on earth - for them is the curse, and they will have the worst home.
— Come To Light
ٱللَّهُ Allah يَبْسُطُ extends ٱلرِّزْقَ the provision لِمَن for whom يَشَآءُ He wills وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ and restricts وَفَرِحُوا۟ And they rejoice بِٱلْحَيَوٰةِ in the life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world وَمَا and nothing ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ (is) the life ٱلدُّنْيَا of the world فِى in (comparison to) ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ the Hereafter إِلَّا except مَتَـٰعٌۭ an enjoyment ٢٦
Allāh extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. And they rejoice in the worldly life, while the worldly life is not, compared to the Hereafter, except [brief] enjoyment.
— Come To Light
وَيَقُولُ And say ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved لَوْلَآ Why has not أُنزِلَ been sent down عَلَيْهِ upon him ءَايَةٌۭ a Sign مِّن from رَّبِّهِۦ ۗ his Lord قُلْ Say إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah يُضِلُّ lets go astray مَن whom يَشَآءُ He wills وَيَهْدِىٓ and guides إِلَيْهِ to Himself مَنْ whoever أَنَابَ turns back ٢٧
And those who disbelieved say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" Say, [O Muḥammad], "Indeed, Allāh leaves astray whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back [to Him] -
— Come To Light
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believed وَتَطْمَئِنُّ and find satisfaction قُلُوبُهُم their hearts بِذِكْرِ in the remembrance ٱللَّهِ ۗ (of) Allah أَلَا No doubt بِذِكْرِ in the remembrance ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah تَطْمَئِنُّ find satisfaction ٱلْقُلُوبُ the hearts ٢٨
Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allāh. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allāh hearts are assured."
— Come To Light
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believed وَعَمِلُوا۟ and did ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ righteous deeds طُوبَىٰ blessedness لَهُمْ (is) for them وَحُسْنُ and a beautiful مَـَٔابٍۢ place of return ٢٩
Those who have believed and done righteous deeds - a good state is theirs and a good return.
— Come To Light
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ We have sent you فِىٓ to أُمَّةٍۢ a nation قَدْ verily خَلَتْ have passed away مِن from قَبْلِهَآ before it أُمَمٌۭ nations لِّتَتْلُوَا۟ so that you might recite عَلَيْهِمُ to them ٱلَّذِىٓ what أَوْحَيْنَآ We revealed إِلَيْكَ to you وَهُمْ while they يَكْفُرُونَ disbelieve بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۚ in the Most Gracious قُلْ Say هُوَ He رَبِّى (is) my Lord لَآ (there is) no إِلَـٰهَ god إِلَّا except هُوَ Him عَلَيْهِ Upon Him تَوَكَّلْتُ I put my trust وَإِلَيْهِ and to Him مَتَابِ (is) my return ٣٠
Thus have We sent you to a community before which [other] communities have passed on so you might recite to them that which We revealed to you, while they disbelieve in the Most Merciful. Say, "He is my Lord; there is no deity except Him. Upon Him I rely, and to Him is my return."
— Come To Light
وَلَوْ And if أَنَّ that was قُرْءَانًۭا any Quran سُيِّرَتْ could be moved بِهِ by it ٱلْجِبَالُ the mountains أَوْ or قُطِّعَتْ could be cloven asunder بِهِ by it ٱلْأَرْضُ the earth أَوْ or كُلِّمَ could be made to speak بِهِ by it ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ ۗ the dead بَل Nay لِّلَّهِ with Allah ٱلْأَمْرُ (is) the command جَمِيعًا ۗ all أَفَلَمْ Then do not يَا۟يْـَٔسِ know ٱلَّذِينَ those who ءَامَنُوٓا۟ believe أَن that لَّوْ if يَشَآءُ had willed ٱللَّهُ Allah لَهَدَى surely, He would have guided ٱلنَّاسَ all جَمِيعًۭا ۗ all of the mankind وَلَا And not يَزَالُ will cease ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve تُصِيبُهُم to strike them بِمَا for what صَنَعُوا۟ they did قَارِعَةٌ a disaster أَوْ or تَحُلُّ it settles قَرِيبًۭا close مِّن from دَارِهِمْ their homes حَتَّىٰ until يَأْتِىَ comes وَعْدُ (the) promise ٱللَّهِ ۚ (of) Allah إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah لَا (will) not يُخْلِفُ fail ٱلْمِيعَادَ (in) the Promise ٣١
And if there was any Qur’ān [i.e., recitation] by which the mountains would be removed or the earth would be broken apart or the dead would be made to speak, [it would be this Qur’ān], but to Allāh belongs the affair entirely. Then have those who believed not accepted that had Allāh willed, He would have guided the people, all of them? And those who disbelieve do not cease to be struck, for what they have done, by calamity - or it will descend near their home - until there comes the promise of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh does not fail in [His] promise.
— Come To Light
وَلَقَدِ And certainly ٱسْتُهْزِئَ were mocked بِرُسُلٍۢ Messengers مِّن from قَبْلِكَ before you فَأَمْلَيْتُ but I granted respite لِلَّذِينَ to those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved ثُمَّ then أَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖ I seized them فَكَيْفَ and how كَانَ was عِقَابِ My penalty ٣٢
And already were [other] messengers ridiculed before you, and I extended the time of those who disbelieved; then I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty.
— Come To Light
أَفَمَنْ Is then He Who هُوَ (He) قَآئِمٌ (is) a Maintainer عَلَىٰ of كُلِّ every نَفْسٍۭ soul بِمَا for what كَسَبَتْ ۗ it has earned وَجَعَلُوا۟ Yet they ascribe لِلَّهِ to Allah شُرَكَآءَ partners قُلْ Say سَمُّوهُمْ ۚ Name them أَمْ Or تُنَبِّـُٔونَهُۥ (do) you inform Him بِمَا of what لَا not يَعْلَمُ He knows فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth أَم or بِظَـٰهِرٍۢ of the apparent مِّنَ of ٱلْقَوْلِ ۗ the words بَلْ Nay زُيِّنَ (is) made fair-seeming لِلَّذِينَ to those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve مَكْرُهُمْ their plotting وَصُدُّوا۟ and they are hindered عَنِ from ٱلسَّبِيلِ ۗ the Path وَمَن And whoever يُضْلِلِ (by) Allah ٱللَّهُ Allah lets go astray فَمَا then not لَهُۥ for him مِنْ any هَادٍۢ guide ٣٣
Then is He who is a maintainer of every soul, [knowing] what it has earned, [like any other]? But to Allāh they have attributed partners. Say, "Name them. Or do you inform Him of that which He knows not upon the earth or of what is apparent [i.e., alleged] of speech?" Rather, their [own] plan has been made attractive to those who disbelieve, and they have been averted from the way. And whomever Allāh sends astray - there will be for him no guide.
— Come To Light
لَّهُمْ For them عَذَابٌۭ (is) a punishment فِى in ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ the life ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ (of) the world وَلَعَذَابُ and surely the punishment ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ (of) the Hereafter أَشَقُّ ۖ (is) harder وَمَا And not لَهُم for them مِّنَ against ٱللَّهِ Allah مِن any وَاقٍۢ defender ٣٤
For them will be punishment in the life of [this] world, and the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe. And they will not have from Allāh any protector.
— Come To Light
۞ مَّثَلُ The example ٱلْجَنَّةِ of Paradise ٱلَّتِى which وُعِدَ (is) promised ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ (to) the righteous تَجْرِى flows مِن from تَحْتِهَا underneath it ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ the rivers أُكُلُهَا Its food دَآئِمٌۭ (is) everlasting وَظِلُّهَا ۚ and its shade تِلْكَ This عُقْبَى (is the) end ٱلَّذِينَ of those who ٱتَّقَوا۟ ۖ (are) righteous وَّعُقْبَى and (the) end ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ (of) the disbelievers ٱلنَّارُ (is) the Fire ٣٥
The example [i.e., description] of Paradise, which the righteous have been promised, is [that] beneath it rivers flow. Its fruit is lasting, and its shade. That is the consequence for the righteous, and the consequence for the disbelievers is the Fire.

وَٱلَّذِينَ And those (to) whom ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ We have given them ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Book يَفْرَحُونَ rejoice بِمَآ at what أُنزِلَ has been revealed إِلَيْكَ ۖ to you وَمِنَ but among ٱلْأَحْزَابِ the groups مَن (those) who يُنكِرُ deny بَعْضَهُۥ ۚ a part of it قُلْ Say إِنَّمَآ Only أُمِرْتُ I have been commanded أَنْ that أَعْبُدَ I worship ٱللَّهَ Allah وَلَآ and not أُشْرِكَ I associate partners بِهِۦٓ ۚ with Him إِلَيْهِ To Him أَدْعُوا۟ I call وَإِلَيْهِ and to Him مَـَٔابِ (is) my return ٣٦
And [the believers among] those to whom We have given the [previous] Scripture rejoice at what has been revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], but among the [opposing] factions are those who deny part of it [i.e., the Qur’ān]. Say, "I have only been commanded to worship Allāh and not associate [anything] with Him. To Him I invite, and to Him is my return."
— Come To Light
وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ We have revealed it حُكْمًا (to be) a judgment of authority عَرَبِيًّۭا ۚ (in) Arabic وَلَئِنِ And if ٱتَّبَعْتَ you follow أَهْوَآءَهُم their desires بَعْدَ مَا after what جَآءَكَ came to you مِنَ of ٱلْعِلْمِ the knowledge مَا not لَكَ for you مِنَ against ٱللَّهِ Allah مِن any وَلِىٍّۢ protector وَلَا and not وَاقٍۢ defender ٣٧
And thus We have revealed it as an Arabic legislation. And if you should follow their inclinations after what has come to you of knowledge, you would not have against Allāh any ally or any protector.
— Come To Light
وَلَقَدْ And certainly أَرْسَلْنَا We sent رُسُلًۭا Messengers مِّن from قَبْلِكَ before you وَجَعَلْنَا and We made لَهُمْ for them أَزْوَٰجًۭا wives وَذُرِّيَّةًۭ ۚ and offspring وَمَا And not كَانَ was لِرَسُولٍ for a Messenger أَن that يَأْتِىَ he comes بِـَٔايَةٍ with a sign إِلَّا except بِإِذْنِ by the leave ٱللَّهِ ۗ (of) Allah لِكُلِّ For everything أَجَلٍۢ (is) a time كِتَابٌۭ prescribed ٣٨
And We have already sent messengers before you and assigned to them wives and descendants. And it was not for a messenger to come with a sign except by permission of Allāh. For every term is a decree.
— Come To Light
يَمْحُوا۟ (Is) eliminated ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah مَا what يَشَآءُ He wills وَيُثْبِتُ ۖ and confirms وَعِندَهُۥٓ and with Him أُمُّ (is) the Mother (of) the Book ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ (is) the Mother (of) the Book ٣٩
Allāh eliminates what He wills or confirms, and with Him is the Mother of the Book.
— Come To Light
وَإِن And whether مَّا (what) نُرِيَنَّكَ We show you بَعْضَ a part ٱلَّذِى (of) what نَعِدُهُمْ We have promised them أَوْ or نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ We cause you to die فَإِنَّمَا so only عَلَيْكَ on you ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ (is) the conveyance وَعَلَيْنَا and on Us ٱلْحِسَابُ (is) the reckoning ٤٠
And whether We show you part of what We promise them or take you in death, upon you is only the [duty of] notification, and upon Us is the account.
