وَجِا۟ىٓءَ And is brought يَوْمَئِذٍۭ that Day بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ Hell يَوْمَئِذٍۢ That Day يَتَذَكَّرُ will remember ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ man وَأَنَّىٰ but how لَهُ (will be) for him ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ the remembrance ٢٣
And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but how [i.e., what good] to him will be the remembrance?
— Come To Light
يَقُولُ He will say يَـٰلَيْتَنِى O I wish قَدَّمْتُ I had sent forth لِحَيَاتِى for my life ٢٤
He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life."
— Come To Light
فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ So that Day لَّا not يُعَذِّبُ will punish عَذَابَهُۥٓ (as) His punishment أَحَدٌۭ anyone ٢٥
So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment,
— Come To Light
وَلَا And not يُوثِقُ will bind وَثَاقَهُۥٓ (as) His binding أَحَدٌۭ anyone ٢٦
And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers].
— Come To Light
يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا O ٱلنَّفْسُ soul ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ who is satisfied ٢٧
[To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul,
— Come To Light
ٱرْجِعِىٓ Return إِلَىٰ to رَبِّكِ your Lord رَاضِيَةًۭ well pleased مَّرْضِيَّةًۭ and pleasing ٢٨
Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],
— Come To Light
فَٱدْخُلِى So enter فِى among عِبَـٰدِى My slaves ٢٩
And enter among My [righteous] servants
— Come To Light
وَٱدْخُلِى And enter جَنَّتِى My Paradise ٣٠
And enter My Paradise."
— Come To Light
The City · Makki · 20 Ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
لَآ Nay أُقْسِمُ I swear بِهَـٰذَا by this ٱلْبَلَدِ city ١
I swear by this city [i.e., Makkah]
— Come To Light
وَأَنتَ And you حِلٌّۢ (are) free (to dwell) بِهَـٰذَا in this ٱلْبَلَدِ city ٢
And you, [O Muḥammad], are free of restriction in this city
— Come To Light
وَوَالِدٍۢ And the begetter وَمَا and what وَلَدَ he begot ٣
And [by] the father and that which was born [of him],
— Come To Light
لَقَدْ Certainly خَلَقْنَا We have created ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ man فِى (to be) in كَبَدٍ hardship ٤
We have certainly created man into hardship.
— Come To Light
أَيَحْسَبُ Does he think أَن that لَّن not يَقْدِرَ has power عَلَيْهِ over him أَحَدٌۭ anyone ٥
Does he think that never will anyone overcome him?
— Come To Light
يَقُولُ He will say أَهْلَكْتُ I have squandered مَالًۭا wealth لُّبَدًا abundant ٦
He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance."
— Come To Light
أَيَحْسَبُ Does he think أَن that لَّمْ not يَرَهُۥٓ sees him أَحَدٌ anyone ٧
Does he think that no one has seen him?
— Come To Light
أَلَمْ Have not نَجْعَل We made لَّهُۥ for him عَيْنَيْنِ two eyes ٨
Have We not made for him two eyes?
— Come To Light
وَلِسَانًۭا And a tongue وَشَفَتَيْنِ and two lips ٩
And a tongue and two lips?
— Come To Light
وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُ And shown him ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِ the two ways ١٠
And have shown him the two ways?
— Come To Light
فَلَا But not ٱقْتَحَمَ he has attempted ٱلْعَقَبَةَ the steep path ١١
But he has not broken through the difficult pass.
— Come To Light
وَمَآ And what أَدْرَىٰكَ can make you know مَا what ٱلْعَقَبَةُ the steep path (is) ١٢
And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass?
— Come To Light
