عَلَىٰٓ [On] أَن to نُّبَدِّلَ [We] replace خَيْرًۭا (with) better مِّنْهُمْ than them وَمَا and not نَحْنُ We بِمَسْبُوقِينَ (are) to be outrun ٤١
To replace them with better than them; and We are not to be outdone.
— Come To Light
فَذَرْهُمْ So leave them يَخُوضُوا۟ (to) converse vainly وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ and amuse themselves حَتَّىٰ until يُلَـٰقُوا۟ they meet يَوْمَهُمُ their Day ٱلَّذِى which يُوعَدُونَ they are promised ٤٢
So leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised -
— Come To Light
يَوْمَ (The) Day يَخْرُجُونَ they will come out مِنَ from ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ the graves سِرَاعًۭا rapidly كَأَنَّهُمْ as if they (were) إِلَىٰ to نُصُبٍۢ a goal يُوفِضُونَ hastening ٤٣
The Day they will emerge from the graves rapidly as if they were, toward an erected idol, hastening.
— Come To Light
خَـٰشِعَةً Humbled أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ their eyesights تَرْهَقُهُمْ will cover them ذِلَّةٌۭ ۚ humiliation ذَٰلِكَ That ٱلْيَوْمُ (is) the Day ٱلَّذِى which كَانُوا۟ they were يُوعَدُونَ promised ٤٤
Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. That is the Day which they had been promised.
— Come To Light
إِنَّآ Indeed, We أَرْسَلْنَا [We] sent نُوحًا Nuh إِلَىٰ to قَوْمِهِۦٓ his people أَنْ that أَنذِرْ Warn قَوْمَكَ your people مِن from قَبْلِ before أَن [that] يَأْتِيَهُمْ comes to them عَذَابٌ a punishment أَلِيمٌۭ painful ١
Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, [saying], "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful punishment."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said يَـٰقَوْمِ O my people إِنِّى Indeed, I am لَكُمْ to you نَذِيرٌۭ a warner مُّبِينٌ clear ٢
He said, "O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner -
— Come To Light
أَنِ That ٱعْبُدُوا۟ Worship ٱللَّهَ Allah وَٱتَّقُوهُ and fear Him وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ٣
To worship Allāh, fear Him and obey me.
— Come To Light
يَغْفِرْ He will forgive لَكُم for you مِّن [of] ذُنُوبِكُمْ your sins وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ and give you respite إِلَىٰٓ for أَجَلٍۢ a term مُّسَمًّى ۚ specified إِنَّ Indeed أَجَلَ (the) term ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah إِذَا when جَآءَ it comes لَا not يُؤَخَّرُ ۖ is delayed لَوْ if كُنتُمْ you تَعْلَمُونَ know ٤
He [i.e., Allāh] will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time [set by] Allāh, when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said رَبِّ My Lord إِنِّى Indeed, I دَعَوْتُ invited قَوْمِى my people لَيْلًۭا night وَنَهَارًۭا and day ٥
He said, "My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth] night and day.
— Come To Light
فَلَمْ But not يَزِدْهُمْ increased them دُعَآءِىٓ my invitation إِلَّا except فِرَارًۭا (in) flight ٦
But my invitation increased them not except in flight [i.e., aversion].
— Come To Light
وَإِنِّى And indeed, I كُلَّمَا every time دَعَوْتُهُمْ I invited them لِتَغْفِرَ that You may forgive لَهُمْ them جَعَلُوٓا۟ they put أَصَـٰبِعَهُمْ their fingers فِىٓ in ءَاذَانِهِمْ their ears وَٱسْتَغْشَوْا۟ and covered themselves ثِيَابَهُمْ (with) their garments وَأَصَرُّوا۟ and persisted وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ and were arrogant ٱسْتِكْبَارًۭا (with) pride ٧
And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments, persisted, and were arrogant with [great] arrogance.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then إِنِّى indeed, I دَعَوْتُهُمْ invited them جِهَارًۭا publicly ٨
Then I invited them publicly.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then إِنِّىٓ indeed, I أَعْلَنتُ announced لَهُمْ to them وَأَسْرَرْتُ and I confided لَهُمْ to them إِسْرَارًۭا secretly ٩
Then I announced to them and [also] confided to them secretly
— Come To Light
فَقُلْتُ Then I said ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ Ask forgiveness رَبَّكُمْ (from) your Lord إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He كَانَ is غَفَّارًۭا Oft-Forgiving ١٠
And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver.
