وَلَا And not طَعَامٌ any food إِلَّا except مِنْ from غِسْلِينٍۢ (the) discharge of wounds ٣٦
Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;
— Come To Light
لَّا Not يَأْكُلُهُۥٓ will eat it إِلَّا except ٱلْخَـٰطِـُٔونَ the sinners ٣٧
None will eat it except the sinners.
— Come To Light
فَلَآ But nay أُقْسِمُ I swear بِمَا by what تُبْصِرُونَ you see ٣٨
So I swear by what you see
— Come To Light
وَمَا And what لَا not تُبْصِرُونَ you see ٣٩
And what you do not see
— Come To Light
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, it (is) لَقَوْلُ surely (the) Word رَسُولٍۢ (of) a Messenger كَرِيمٍۢ noble ٤٠
[That] indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is the word of a noble Messenger.
— Come To Light
وَمَا And not هُوَ it بِقَوْلِ (is the) word شَاعِرٍۢ ۚ (of) a poet قَلِيلًۭا little مَّا (is) what تُؤْمِنُونَ you believe ٤١
And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.
— Come To Light
وَلَا And not بِقَوْلِ (it is the) word كَاهِنٍۢ ۚ (of) a soothsayer قَلِيلًۭا little مَّا (is) what تَذَكَّرُونَ you take heed ٤٢
Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember.
— Come To Light
تَنزِيلٌۭ (It is) a revelation مِّن from رَّبِّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ٤٣
[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
— Come To Light
وَلَوْ And if تَقَوَّلَ he (had) fabricated عَلَيْنَا against Us بَعْضَ some ٱلْأَقَاوِيلِ sayings ٤٤
And if he [i.e., Muḥammad] had made up about Us some [false] sayings,
— Come To Light
لَأَخَذْنَا Certainly We (would) have seized مِنْهُ him بِٱلْيَمِينِ by the right hand ٤٥
We would have seized him by the right hand;
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then لَقَطَعْنَا certainly We (would) have cut off مِنْهُ from him ٱلْوَتِينَ the aorta ٤٦
Then We would have cut from him the aorta.
— Come To Light
فَمَا And not مِنكُم from you مِّنْ any أَحَدٍ one عَنْهُ [from him] حَـٰجِزِينَ (who could) prevent (it) ٤٧
And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّهُۥ And indeed, it لَتَذْكِرَةٌۭ (is) surely a reminder لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ for the Allah-fearing ٤٨
And indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is a reminder for the righteous.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّا And indeed, We لَنَعْلَمُ surely know أَنَّ that مِنكُم among you مُّكَذِّبِينَ (are) deniers ٤٩
And indeed, We know that among you are deniers.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّهُۥ And indeed, it لَحَسْرَةٌ (is) surely a regret عَلَى upon ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers ٥٠
And indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّهُۥ And indeed, it (is) لَحَقُّ surely (the) truth ٱلْيَقِينِ (of) certainty ٥١
And indeed, it is the truth of certainty.
— Come To Light
فَسَبِّحْ So glorify بِٱسْمِ (the) name رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord ٱلْعَظِيمِ the Most Great ٥٢
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.

70. Surah Al-Ma'arij
The Ascending Stairways · Makki · 44 Ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
سَأَلَ Asked سَآئِلٌۢ a questioner بِعَذَابٍۢ about a punishment وَاقِعٍۢ bound to happen ١
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen
— Come To Light
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ To the disbelievers لَيْسَ not لَهُۥ of it دَافِعٌۭ any preventer ٢
To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer.
— Come To Light
مِّنَ From ٱللَّهِ Allah ذِى Owner ٱلْمَعَارِجِ (of) the ways of ascent ٣
[It is] from Allāh, owner of the ways of ascent.
— Come To Light
