43:23

وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus مَآ not أَرْسَلْنَا We sent مِن before you قَبْلِكَ before you فِى in قَرْيَةٍۢ a town مِّن any نَّذِيرٍ warner إِلَّا except قَالَ said مُتْرَفُوهَآ (the) wealthy ones of it إِنَّا Indeed, we وَجَدْنَآ [we] found ءَابَآءَنَا our forefathers عَلَىٰٓ on أُمَّةٍۢ a religion وَإِنَّا and indeed, we عَلَىٰٓ [on] ءَاثَـٰرِهِم their footsteps مُّقْتَدُونَ (are) following ٢٣

And similarly, We did not send before you any warner into a city except that its affluent said, "Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are, in their footsteps, following."

— Come To Light

43:24

۞ قَـٰلَ He said أَوَلَوْ Even if جِئْتُكُم I brought you بِأَهْدَىٰ better guidance مِمَّا than what وَجَدتُّمْ you found عَلَيْهِ on it ءَابَآءَكُمْ ۖ your forefathers قَالُوٓا۟ They said إِنَّا Indeed, we بِمَآ with what أُرْسِلْتُم you are sent بِهِۦ with [it] كَـٰفِرُونَ (are) disbelievers ٢٤

[Each warner] said, "Even if I brought you better guidance than that [religion] upon which you found your fathers?" They said, "Indeed we, in that with which you were sent, are disbelievers."

43:25

فَٱنتَقَمْنَا So We took retribution مِنْهُمْ ۖ from them فَٱنظُرْ Then see كَيْفَ how كَانَ was عَـٰقِبَةُ (the) end ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ (of) the deniers ٢٥

So We took retribution from them; then see how was the end of the deniers.

43:26

وَإِذْ And when قَالَ Ibrahim Said إِبْرَٰهِيمُ Ibrahim Said لِأَبِيهِ to his father وَقَوْمِهِۦٓ and his people إِنَّنِى Indeed, I (am) بَرَآءٌۭ disassociated مِّمَّا from what تَعْبُدُونَ you worship ٢٦

And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Abraham said to his father and his people, "Indeed, I am disassociated from that which you worship

— Come To Light

43:27

إِلَّا Except ٱلَّذِى the One Who فَطَرَنِى created me فَإِنَّهُۥ and indeed, He سَيَهْدِينِ will guide me ٢٧

Except for He who created me; and indeed, He will guide me."

43:28

وَجَعَلَهَا And he made it كَلِمَةًۢ a word بَاقِيَةًۭ lasting فِى among عَقِبِهِۦ his descendents لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may يَرْجِعُونَ return ٢٨

And he made it a word remaining among his descendants that they might return [to it].

43:29

بَلْ Nay مَتَّعْتُ I gave enjoyment هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ (to) these وَءَابَآءَهُمْ and their forefathers حَتَّىٰ until جَآءَهُمُ came to them ٱلْحَقُّ the truth وَرَسُولٌۭ and a Messenger مُّبِينٌۭ clear ٢٩

However, I gave enjoyment to these [people of Makkah] and their fathers until there came to them the truth and a clear Messenger.

43:30

وَلَمَّا And when جَآءَهُمُ came to them ٱلْحَقُّ the truth قَالُوا۟ they said هَـٰذَا This سِحْرٌۭ (is) magic وَإِنَّا and indeed, we بِهِۦ of it كَـٰفِرُونَ (are) disbelievers ٣٠

But when the truth came to them, they said, "This is magic, and indeed we are, concerning it, disbelievers."

43:31

وَقَالُوا۟ And they say لَوْلَا Why not نُزِّلَ was sent down هَـٰذَا this ٱلْقُرْءَانُ the Quran عَلَىٰ to رَجُلٍۢ a man مِّنَ from ٱلْقَرْيَتَيْنِ the two towns عَظِيمٍ great ٣١

And they said, "Why was this Qur’ān not sent down upon a great man from [one of] the two cities?"

43:32

أَهُمْ Do they يَقْسِمُونَ distribute رَحْمَتَ (the) Mercy رَبِّكَ ۚ (of) your Lord نَحْنُ We قَسَمْنَا [We] distribute بَيْنَهُم among them مَّعِيشَتَهُمْ their livelihood فِى in ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ the life ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ (of) the world وَرَفَعْنَا and We raise بَعْضَهُمْ some of them فَوْقَ above بَعْضٍۢ others دَرَجَـٰتٍۢ (in) degrees لِّيَتَّخِذَ so that may take بَعْضُهُم some of them بَعْضًۭا others سُخْرِيًّۭا ۗ (for) service وَرَحْمَتُ But (the) Mercy رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord خَيْرٌۭ (is) better مِّمَّا than what يَجْمَعُونَ they accumulate ٣٢

Do they distribute the mercy of your Lord? It is We who have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of this world and have raised some of them above others in degrees [of rank] that they may make use of one another for service. But the mercy of your Lord is better than whatever they accumulate.

43:33

وَلَوْلَآ And if not أَن that يَكُونَ (would) become ٱلنَّاسُ [the] mankind أُمَّةًۭ a community وَٰحِدَةًۭ one لَّجَعَلْنَا We (would have) made لِمَن for (one) who يَكْفُرُ disbelieves بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ in the Most Gracious لِبُيُوتِهِمْ for their houses سُقُفًۭا roofs مِّن of فِضَّةٍۢ silver وَمَعَارِجَ and stairways عَلَيْهَا upon which يَظْهَرُونَ they mount ٣٣

And if it were not that the people would become one community [of disbelievers], We would have made for those who disbelieve in the Most Merciful - for their houses - ceilings and stairways of silver upon which to mount.
