وَمَا And not كُنتَ you were بِجَانِبِ on (the) side ٱلْغَرْبِىِّ western إِذْ when قَضَيْنَآ We decreed إِلَىٰ to مُوسَى Musa ٱلْأَمْرَ the Commandment وَمَا and not كُنتَ you were مِنَ among ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ the witnesses ٤٤
And you, [O Muḥammad], were not on the western side [of the mount] when We revealed to Moses the command, and you were not among the witnesses [to that].
— Come To Light
وَلَـٰكِنَّآ But We أَنشَأْنَا [We] produced قُرُونًۭا generations فَتَطَاوَلَ and prolonged عَلَيْهِمُ for them ٱلْعُمُرُ ۚ the life وَمَا And not كُنتَ you were ثَاوِيًۭا a dweller فِىٓ among أَهْلِ (the) people مَدْيَنَ (of) Madyan تَتْلُوا۟ reciting عَلَيْهِمْ to them ءَايَـٰتِنَا Our Verses وَلَـٰكِنَّا but We كُنَّا [We] were مُرْسِلِينَ the Senders ٤٥
But We produced [many] generations [after Moses], and prolonged was their duration. And you were not a resident among the people of Madyan, reciting to them Our verses, but We were senders [of this message].
— Come To Light
وَمَا And not كُنتَ you were بِجَانِبِ at (the) side ٱلطُّورِ (of) the Tur إِذْ when نَادَيْنَا We called وَلَـٰكِن But رَّحْمَةًۭ (as) a mercy مِّن from رَّبِّكَ your Lord لِتُنذِرَ so that you warn قَوْمًۭا a people مَّآ not أَتَىٰهُم (had) come to them مِّن any نَّذِيرٍۢ warner مِّن before you قَبْلِكَ before you لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may يَتَذَكَّرُونَ remember ٤٦
And you were not at the side of the mount when We called [Moses] but [were sent] as a mercy from your Lord to warn a people to whom no warner had come before you that they might be reminded.
— Come To Light
وَلَوْلَآ And if not أَن [that] تُصِيبَهُم struck them مُّصِيبَةٌۢ a disaster بِمَا for what قَدَّمَتْ had sent forth أَيْدِيهِمْ their hands فَيَقُولُوا۟ and they would say رَبَّنَا Our Lord لَوْلَآ Why not أَرْسَلْتَ You sent إِلَيْنَا to us رَسُولًۭا a Messenger فَنَتَّبِعَ so we (could have) followed ءَايَـٰتِكَ Your Verses وَنَكُونَ and we (would) have been مِنَ of ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers ٤٧
And if not that a disaster should strike them for what their hands put forth [of sins] and they would say, "Our Lord, why did You not send us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses and been among the believers?"...
— Come To Light
فَلَمَّا But when جَآءَهُمُ came to them ٱلْحَقُّ the truth مِنْ from Us عِندِنَا from Us قَالُوا۟ they said لَوْلَآ Why not أُوتِىَ he was given مِثْلَ (the) like مَآ (of) what أُوتِىَ was given مُوسَىٰٓ ۚ (to) Musa أَوَلَمْ Did not يَكْفُرُوا۟ they disbelieve بِمَآ in what أُوتِىَ was given مُوسَىٰ (to) Musa مِن before قَبْلُ ۖ before قَالُوا۟ They said سِحْرَانِ Two magic (works) تَظَـٰهَرَا supporting each other وَقَالُوٓا۟ And they said إِنَّا Indeed, we بِكُلٍّۢ in all كَـٰفِرُونَ (are) disbelievers ٤٨
But when the truth came to them from Us, they said, "Why was he not given like that which was given to Moses?" Did they not disbelieve in that which was given to Moses before? They said, "[They are but] two works of magic supporting each other, and indeed we are, in both, disbelievers."
— Come To Light
قُلْ Say فَأْتُوا۟ Then bring بِكِتَـٰبٍۢ a Book مِّنْ from Allah عِندِ from Allah ٱللَّهِ from Allah هُوَ which أَهْدَىٰ (is) a better guide مِنْهُمَآ than both of them أَتَّبِعْهُ that I may follow it إِن if كُنتُمْ you are صَـٰدِقِينَ truthful ٤٩
Say, "Then bring a scripture from Allāh which is more guiding than either of them that I may follow it, if you should be truthful."
— Come To Light
فَإِن But if لَّمْ not يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ they respond لَكَ to you فَٱعْلَمْ then know أَنَّمَا that only يَتَّبِعُونَ they follow أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ their desires وَمَنْ And who أَضَلُّ (is) more astray مِمَّنِ than (one) who ٱتَّبَعَ follows هَوَىٰهُ his own desire بِغَيْرِ without هُدًۭى guidance مِّنَ from ٱللَّهِ ۚ Allah إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah لَا (does) not يَهْدِى guide ٱلْقَوْمَ the people ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers ٥٠
But if they do not respond to you - then know that they only follow their [own] desires. And who is more astray than one who follows his desire without guidance from Allāh? Indeed, Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.
