وَيْلٌۭ Woe لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ to those who give less ١
Woe to those who give less [than due],
— Come To Light
83. Surah Al-Mutaffifin
The Defrauding · Makki · 36 Ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who إِذَا when ٱكْتَالُوا۟ they take a measure عَلَى from ٱلنَّاسِ the people يَسْتَوْفُونَ they take in full ٢
Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full.
— Come To Light
وَإِذَا But when كَالُوهُمْ they give by measure (to) them أَو or وَّزَنُوهُمْ they weigh (for) them يُخْسِرُونَ they give less ٣
But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss.
— Come To Light
أَلَا Do not يَظُنُّ think أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those أَنَّهُم that they مَّبْعُوثُونَ (will be) resurrected ٤
Do they not think that they will be resurrected
— Come To Light
لِيَوْمٍ For a Day عَظِيمٍۢ Great ٥
For a tremendous Day -
— Come To Light
يَوْمَ (The) Day يَقُومُ will stand ٱلنَّاسُ mankind لِرَبِّ before (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds ٦
The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds?
— Come To Light
كَلَّآ Nay إِنَّ Indeed كِتَـٰبَ (the) record ٱلْفُجَّارِ (of) the wicked لَفِى (is) surely in سِجِّينٍۢ Sijjin ٧
No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen.
— Come To Light
وَمَآ And what أَدْرَىٰكَ can make you know مَا what سِجِّينٌۭ (is) Sijjin ٨
And what can make you know what is sijjeen?
— Come To Light
كِتَـٰبٌۭ A book مَّرْقُومٌۭ written ٩
It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed.
— Come To Light
وَيْلٌۭ Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ to the deniers ١٠
Woe, that Day, to the deniers,
— Come To Light
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who يُكَذِّبُونَ deny بِيَوْمِ (the) Day ٱلدِّينِ (of) the Judgment ١١
Who deny the Day of Recompense.
— Come To Light
وَمَا And not يُكَذِّبُ can deny بِهِۦٓ [of] it إِلَّا except كُلُّ every مُعْتَدٍ transgressor أَثِيمٍ sinful ١٢
And none deny it except every sinful transgressor.
— Come To Light
إِذَا When تُتْلَىٰ are recited عَلَيْهِ to him ءَايَـٰتُنَا Our Verses قَالَ he says أَسَـٰطِيرُ Stories ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) the former (people) ١٣
When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."
— Come To Light
كَلَّا ۖ Nay بَلْ ۜ But رَانَ (the) stain has covered عَلَىٰ [over] قُلُوبِهِم their hearts مَّا (for) what كَانُوا۟ they used to يَكْسِبُونَ earn ١٤
No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.
— Come To Light
كَلَّآ Nay إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they عَن from رَّبِّهِمْ their Lord يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that Day لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ surely will be partitioned ١٥
No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then إِنَّهُمْ indeed, they لَصَالُوا۟ (surely) will burn ٱلْجَحِيمِ (in) the Hellfire ١٦
Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then يُقَالُ it will be said هَـٰذَا This ٱلَّذِى (is) what كُنتُم you used to بِهِۦ [of it] تُكَذِّبُونَ deny ١٧
Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny."
— Come To Light
كَلَّآ Nay إِنَّ Indeed كِتَـٰبَ (the) record ٱلْأَبْرَارِ (of) the righteous لَفِى (will be) surely in عِلِّيِّينَ Illiyin ١٨
No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in ʿilliyyūn.
— Come To Light
وَمَآ And what أَدْرَىٰكَ can make you know مَا what عِلِّيُّونَ (is) Illiyun ١٩
And what can make you know what is ʿilliyyūn?
— Come To Light
كِتَـٰبٌۭ A book مَّرْقُومٌۭ written ٢٠
It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed
— Come To Light
يَشْهَدُهُ Witness it ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ those brought near ٢١
Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allāh].
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed ٱلْأَبْرَارَ the righteous لَفِى (will be) surely in نَعِيمٍ bliss ٢٢
Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure
— Come To Light
عَلَى On ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ thrones يَنظُرُونَ observing ٢٣
On adorned couches, observing.
— Come To Light
تَعْرِفُ You will recognize فِى in وُجُوهِهِمْ their faces نَضْرَةَ (the) radiance ٱلنَّعِيمِ (of) bliss ٢٤
You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure.
— Come To Light
يُسْقَوْنَ They will be given to drink مِن of رَّحِيقٍۢ a pure wine مَّخْتُومٍ sealed ٢٥
They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed.
— Come To Light
خِتَـٰمُهُۥ Its seal مِسْكٌۭ ۚ (will be of) musk وَفِى And for ذَٰلِكَ that فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ let aspire ٱلْمُتَنَـٰفِسُونَ the aspirers ٢٦
The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete.
— Come To Light
وَمِزَاجُهُۥ And its mixture مِن (is) of تَسْنِيمٍ Tasneem ٢٧
And its mixture is of Tasneem,
— Come To Light
عَيْنًۭا A spring يَشْرَبُ will drink بِهَا from it ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ those brought near ٢٨
A spring from which those near [to Allāh] drink.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who أَجْرَمُوا۟ committed crimes كَانُوا۟ used to مِنَ at ٱلَّذِينَ those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believed يَضْحَكُونَ laugh ٢٩
Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.
— Come To Light
وَإِذَا And when مَرُّوا۟ they passed بِهِمْ by them يَتَغَامَزُونَ they winked at one another ٣٠
And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances.
— Come To Light
وَإِذَا And when ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ they returned إِلَىٰٓ to أَهْلِهِمُ their people ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ they would return فَكِهِينَ jesting ٣١
And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting.
— Come To Light
وَإِذَا And when رَأَوْهُمْ they saw them قَالُوٓا۟ they said إِنَّ Indeed هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ these لَضَآلُّونَ surely have gone astray ٣٢
And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost."
— Come To Light
وَمَآ But not أُرْسِلُوا۟ they had been sent عَلَيْهِمْ over them حَـٰفِظِينَ (as) guardians ٣٣
But they had not been sent as guardians over them.
— Come To Light
فَٱلْيَوْمَ So today ٱلَّذِينَ those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believed مِنَ at ٱلْكُفَّارِ the disbelievers يَضْحَكُونَ they will laugh ٣٤
So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers,
— Come To Light
عَلَى On ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ the thrones يَنظُرُونَ observing ٣٥
On adorned couches, observing.
— Come To Light
هَلْ Have (not) ثُوِّبَ been rewarded ٱلْكُفَّارُ the disbelievers مَا (for) what كَانُوا۟ they used to يَفْعَلُونَ do ٣٦
Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do?
— Come To Light
