لَآ Nay أُقْسِمُ I swear بِيَوْمِ by (the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection ١
I swear by the Day of Resurrection
— Come To Light
75. Surah Al-Qiyamah
The Resurrection · Makki · 40 Ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
وَلَآ And nay أُقْسِمُ I swear بِٱلنَّفْسِ by the soul ٱللَّوَّامَةِ self-accusing ٢
And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection].
— Come To Light
أَيَحْسَبُ Does think ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ [the] man أَلَّن that not نَّجْمَعَ We will assemble عِظَامَهُۥ his bones ٣
Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?
— Come To Light
بَلَىٰ Nay قَـٰدِرِينَ (We are) Able عَلَىٰٓ on أَن that نُّسَوِّىَ We can restore بَنَانَهُۥ his fingertips ٤
Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips.
— Come To Light
بَلْ Nay يُرِيدُ Desires ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ [the] man لِيَفْجُرَ to give (the) lie أَمَامَهُۥ (to) what is before him ٥
But man desires to continue in sin.
— Come To Light
يَسْـَٔلُ He asks أَيَّانَ When يَوْمُ (is the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection ٦
He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"
— Come To Light
فَإِذَا So when بَرِقَ is dazzled ٱلْبَصَرُ the vision ٧
So when vision is dazzled.
— Come To Light
وَخَسَفَ And becomes dark ٱلْقَمَرُ the moon ٨
And the moon darkens.
— Come To Light
وَجُمِعَ And are joined ٱلشَّمْسُ the sun وَٱلْقَمَرُ and the moon ٩
And the sun and the moon are joined,
— Come To Light
يَقُولُ Will say ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ [the] man يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day أَيْنَ Where ٱلْمَفَرُّ (is) the escape ١٠
Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?"
— Come To Light
كَلَّا By no means لَا (There is) no وَزَرَ refuge ١١
No! There is no refuge.
— Come To Light
إِلَىٰ To رَبِّكَ your Lord يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ (is) the place of rest ١٢
To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence.
— Come To Light
يُنَبَّؤُا۟ Will be informed ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ [the] man يَوْمَئِذٍۭ that Day بِمَا of what قَدَّمَ he sent forth وَأَخَّرَ and kept back ١٣
Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back.
— Come To Light
بَلِ Nay ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ [The] man عَلَىٰ against نَفْسِهِۦ himself بَصِيرَةٌۭ (will be) a witness ١٤
Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,
— Come To Light
وَلَوْ Even if أَلْقَىٰ he presents مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ his excuses ١٥
Even if he presents his excuses.
— Come To Light
لَا Not تُحَرِّكْ move بِهِۦ with it لِسَانَكَ your tongue لِتَعْجَلَ to hasten بِهِۦٓ with it ١٦
Move not your tongue with it, [O Muḥammad], to hasten with it [i.e., recitation of the Qur’ān].
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed عَلَيْنَا upon Us جَمْعَهُۥ (is) its collection وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ and its recitation ١٧
Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation.
— Come To Light
فَإِذَا And when قَرَأْنَـٰهُ We have recited it فَٱتَّبِعْ then follow قُرْءَانَهُۥ its recitation ١٨
So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then إِنَّ indeed عَلَيْنَا upon Us بَيَانَهُۥ (is) its explanation ١٩
Then upon Us is its clarification [to you].
— Come To Light
كَلَّا No بَلْ But تُحِبُّونَ you love ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ the immediate ٢٠
No! But you [i.e., mankind] love the immediate
— Come To Light
وَتَذَرُونَ And leave ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ the Hereafter ٢١
And leave [i.e., neglect] the Hereafter.
— Come To Light
وُجُوهٌۭ Faces يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that Day نَّاضِرَةٌ (will be) radiant ٢٢
[Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant,
— Come To Light
إِلَىٰ Towards رَبِّهَا their Lord نَاظِرَةٌۭ looking ٢٣
Looking at their Lord.
— Come To Light
وَوُجُوهٌۭ And faces يَوْمَئِذٍۭ that Day بَاسِرَةٌۭ (will be) distorted ٢٤
And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted,
— Come To Light
تَظُنُّ Thinking أَن that يُفْعَلَ will be done بِهَا to them فَاقِرَةٌۭ backbreaking ٢٥
Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking.
— Come To Light
كَلَّآ No إِذَا When بَلَغَتِ it reaches ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ the collar bones ٢٦
No! When it [i.e., the soul] has reached the collar bones
— Come To Light
وَقِيلَ And it is said مَنْ ۜ Who رَاقٍۢ (will) cure ٢٧
And it is said, "Who will cure [him]?"
— Come To Light
وَظَنَّ And he is certain أَنَّهُ that it ٱلْفِرَاقُ (is) the parting ٢٨
And he [i.e., the dying one] is certain that it is the [time of] separation
— Come To Light
وَٱلْتَفَّتِ And is wound ٱلسَّاقُ the leg بِٱلسَّاقِ about the leg ٢٩
And the leg is wound about the leg,
— Come To Light
إِلَىٰ To رَبِّكَ your Lord يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day ٱلْمَسَاقُ (will be) the driving ٣٠
To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.
— Come To Light
فَلَا And not صَدَّقَ he accepted (the) truth وَلَا and not صَلَّىٰ he prayed ٣١
And he [i.e., the disbeliever] had not believed, nor had he prayed.
— Come To Light
وَلَـٰكِن But كَذَّبَ he denied وَتَوَلَّىٰ and turned away ٣٢
But [instead], he denied and turned away.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then ذَهَبَ he went إِلَىٰٓ to أَهْلِهِۦ his family يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ swaggering ٣٣
And then he went to his people, swaggering [in pride].
— Come To Light
أَوْلَىٰ Woe لَكَ to you فَأَوْلَىٰ and woe ٣٤
Woe to you, and woe!
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then أَوْلَىٰ woe لَكَ to you فَأَوْلَىٰٓ and woe ٣٥
Then woe to you, and woe!
— Come To Light
أَيَحْسَبُ Does think ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ man أَن that يُتْرَكَ he will be left سُدًى neglected ٣٦
Does man think that he will be left neglected?
— Come To Light
أَلَمْ Was not يَكُ he نُطْفَةًۭ a semen-drop مِّن of مَّنِىٍّۢ semen يُمْنَىٰ emitted ٣٧
Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then كَانَ he was عَلَقَةًۭ a clinging substance فَخَلَقَ then He created فَسَوَّىٰ and proportioned ٣٨
Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allāh] created [his form] and proportioned [him]
— Come To Light
فَجَعَلَ Then made مِنْهُ of him ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ two kinds ٱلذَّكَرَ (the) male وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ and the female ٣٩
And made of him two mates, the male and the female.
— Come To Light
أَلَيْسَ Is not ذَٰلِكَ [that] بِقَـٰدِرٍ (He) Able عَلَىٰٓ [over] أَن to يُحْـِۧىَ give life ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ (to) the dead ٤٠
Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?
— Come To Light
