Surah Nuh - Noah | Come To Light

71:1

إِنَّآ Indeed, We أَرْسَلْنَا [We] sent نُوحًا Nuh إِلَىٰ to قَوْمِهِۦٓ his people أَنْ that أَنذِرْ Warn قَوْمَكَ your people مِن from قَبْلِ before أَن [that] يَأْتِيَهُمْ comes to them عَذَابٌ a punishment أَلِيمٌۭ painful ١

Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, [saying], "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful punishment."

71:2

قَالَ يَـٰقَوْ إِنِّى لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌۭ مُّبِينٌ > He said مِ O my people an> Indeed, I am an> to you a warner clear ٢

He said, "O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner -

— Come To Light

71:3

أَنِ That ٱعْبُدُوا۟ Worship ٱللَّهَ Allah وَٱتَّقُوهُ and fear Him وَأَطِيعُونِ and obey me ٣

To worship Allāh, fear Him and obey me.

— Come To Light

71:4

يَغْفِرْ He will forgive لَكُم for you مِّن [of] ذُنُوبِكُمْ your sins وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ and give you respite إِلَىٰٓ for أَجَلٍۢ a term مُّسَمًّى ۚ specified إِنَّ Indeed أَجَلَ (the) term ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah إِذَا when جَآءَ it comes لَا not يُؤَخَّرُ ۖ is delayed لَوْ if كُنتُمْ you تَعْلَمُونَ know ٤

He [i.e., Allāh] will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time [set by] Allāh, when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew."

71:5

قَالَ He said رَبِّ My Lord إِنِّى Indeed, I دَعَوْتُ invited قَوْمِى my people لَيْلًۭا night وَنَهَارًۭا and day ٥

He said, "My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth] night and day.

— Come To Light

71:6

فَلَمْ But not يَزِدْهُمْ increased them دُعَآءِىٓ my invitation إِلَّا except فِرَارًۭا (in) flight ٦

But my invitation increased them not except in flight [i.e., aversion].

71:7

وَإِنِّى And indeed, I كُلَّمَا every time دَعَوْتُهُمْ I invited them لِتَغْفِرَ that You may forgive لَهُمْ them جَعَلُوٓا۟ they put أَصَـٰبِعَهُمْ their fingers فِىٓ in ءَاذَانِهِمْ their ears وَٱسْتَغْشَوْا۟ and covered themselves ثِيَابَهُمْ (with) their garments وَأَصَرُّوا۟ and persisted وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ and were arrogant ٱسْتِكْبَارًۭا (with) pride ٧

And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments, persisted, and were arrogant with [great] arrogance.

71:8

ثُمَّ Then إِنِّى indeed, I دَعَوْتُهُمْ invited them جِهَارًۭا publicly ٨

Then I invited them publicly.

— Come To Light

71:9

ثُمَّ Then إِنِّىٓ indeed, I أَعْلَنتُ announced لَهُمْ to them وَأَسْرَرْتُ and I confided لَهُمْ to them إِسْرَارًۭا secretly ٩

Then I announced to them and [also] confided to them secretly
