بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

الٓر ۚ Alif Laam Ra كِتَـٰبٌ A Book أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ which We have revealed إِلَيْكَ to you لِتُخْرِجَ so that you may bring out ٱلنَّاسَ the mankind مِنَ from ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ the darkness[es] إِلَى to ٱلنُّورِ the light بِإِذْنِ by the permission رَبِّهِمْ (of) their Lord إِلَىٰ to صِرَٰطِ the Path ٱلْعَزِيزِ (of) the All-Mighty ٱلْحَمِيدِ the Praiseworthy ١

Alif, Lām, Rā. [This is] a Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], that you might bring mankind out of darknesses into the light by permission of their Lord - to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy -

— Come To Light

ٱللَّهِ Allah ٱلَّذِى (is) the One لَهُۥ to Him (belongs) مَا whatever فِى (is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَمَا and whatever فِى (is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ the earth وَوَيْلٌۭ And woe لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ to the disbelievers مِنْ from عَذَابٍۢ the punishment شَدِيدٍ severe ٢

Allāh, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And woe [i.e., destruction] to the disbelievers from a severe punishment -

— Come To Light

ٱلَّذِينَ Those who يَسْتَحِبُّونَ love more ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ the life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world عَلَى than ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ the Hereafter وَيَصُدُّونَ and hinder عَن from سَبِيلِ (the) Path ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah وَيَبْغُونَهَا and seek in it عِوَجًا ۚ crookedness أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those فِى [in] ضَلَـٰلٍۭ (are) far astray بَعِيدٍۢ (are) far astray ٣

The ones who prefer the worldly life over the Hereafter and avert [people] from the way of Allāh, seeking to make it [seem] deviant. Those are in extreme error.

— Come To Light

وَمَآ And not أَرْسَلْنَا We sent مِن any رَّسُولٍ Messenger إِلَّا except بِلِسَانِ with the language قَوْمِهِۦ (of) his people لِيُبَيِّنَ so that he might make clear لَهُمْ ۖ for them فَيُضِلُّ Then Allah lets go astray ٱللَّهُ Then Allah lets go astray مَن whom يَشَآءُ He wills وَيَهْدِى and guides مَن whom يَشَآءُ ۚ He wills وَهُوَ And He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلْحَكِيمُ the All-Wise ٤

And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to state clearly for them, and Allāh sends astray [thereby] whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

— Come To Light

وَلَقَدْ And verily أَرْسَلْنَا We sent مُوسَىٰ Musa بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ with Our Signs أَنْ that أَخْرِجْ Bring out قَوْمَكَ your people مِنَ from ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ the darkness[es] إِلَى to ٱلنُّورِ the light وَذَكِّرْهُم And remind them بِأَيَّىٰمِ of the days ٱللَّهِ ۚ (of) Allah إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) the signs لِّكُلِّ for everyone صَبَّارٍۢ patient شَكُورٍۢ and thankful ٥

And We certainly sent Moses with Our signs, [saying], "Bring out your people from darknesses into the light and remind them of the days of Allāh." Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.

— Come To Light

وَإِذْ And when قَالَ said مُوسَىٰ Musa لِقَوْمِهِ to his people ٱذْكُرُوا۟ Remember نِعْمَةَ (the) Favor of Allah ٱللَّهِ (the) Favor of Allah عَلَيْكُمْ upon you إِذْ when أَنجَىٰكُم He saved you مِّنْ from ءَالِ (the) people فِرْعَوْنَ (of) Firaun يَسُومُونَكُمْ they were afflicting you سُوٓءَ (with) evil ٱلْعَذَابِ torment وَيُذَبِّحُونَ and were slaughtering أَبْنَآءَكُمْ your sons وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ and letting live نِسَآءَكُمْ ۚ your women وَفِى And in ذَٰلِكُم that بَلَآءٌۭ (was) a trial مِّن from رَّبِّكُمْ your Lord عَظِيمٌۭ great ٦

And [recall, O Children of Israel], when Moses said to his people, "Remember the favor of Allāh upon you when He saved you from the people of Pharaoh, who were afflicting you with the worst torment and were slaughtering your [newborn] sons and keeping your females alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.

— Come To Light

وَإِذْ And when تَأَذَّنَ proclaimed رَبُّكُمْ your Lord لَئِن If شَكَرْتُمْ you are thankful لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ ۖ surely I will increase you وَلَئِن but if كَفَرْتُمْ you are ungrateful إِنَّ indeed عَذَابِى My punishment لَشَدِيدٌۭ (is) surely severe ٧

And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'"

— Come To Light

وَقَالَ And said مُوسَىٰٓ Musa إِن If تَكْفُرُوٓا۟ you disbelieve أَنتُمْ you وَمَن and whoever فِى (is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth جَمِيعًۭا all فَإِنَّ then indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah لَغَنِىٌّ certainly (is) Free of need حَمِيدٌ Praiseworthy ٨

And Moses said, "If you should disbelieve, you and whoever is on the earth entirely - indeed, Allāh is Free of need and Praiseworthy."

— Come To Light

أَلَمْ Has not يَأْتِكُمْ come to you نَبَؤُا۟ (the) news ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who مِن (were) before you قَبْلِكُمْ (were) before you قَوْمِ the people نُوحٍۢ of Nuh وَعَادٍۢ and Aad وَثَمُودَ ۛ and Thamud وَٱلَّذِينَ and those who مِنۢ (were) after them بَعْدِهِمْ ۛ (were) after them لَا None يَعْلَمُهُمْ knows them إِلَّا except ٱللَّهُ ۚ Allah جَآءَتْهُمْ Came to them رُسُلُهُم their Messengers بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ with clear proofs فَرَدُّوٓا۟ but they returned أَيْدِيَهُمْ their hands فِىٓ in أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ their mouths وَقَالُوٓا۟ and they said إِنَّا Indeed we كَفَرْنَا [we] disbelieve بِمَآ in what أُرْسِلْتُم you have been sent بِهِۦ with [it] وَإِنَّا and indeed, we لَفِى (are) surely in شَكٍّۢ doubt مِّمَّا about what تَدْعُونَنَآ you invite us إِلَيْهِ to it مُرِيبٍۢ suspicious ٩

Has there not reached you the news of those before you - the people of Noah and ʿAad and Thamūd and those after them? No one knows them [i.e., their number] but Allāh. Their messengers brought them clear proofs, but they returned their hands to their mouths and said, "Indeed, we disbelieve in that with which you have been sent, and indeed we are, about that to which you invite us, in disquieting doubt."

— Come To Light

۞ قَالَتْ Said رُسُلُهُمْ their Messengers أَفِى Can (there) be about ٱللَّهِ Allah شَكٌّۭ any doubt فَاطِرِ (the) Creator ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ and the earth يَدْعُوكُمْ He invites you لِيَغْفِرَ so that He may forgive لَكُم for you مِّن [of] ذُنُوبِكُمْ your sins وَيُؤَخِّرَكُمْ and give you respite إِلَىٰٓ for أَجَلٍۢ a term مُّسَمًّۭى ۚ appointed قَالُوٓا۟ They said إِنْ Not أَنتُمْ you إِلَّا (are) but بَشَرٌۭ a human مِّثْلُنَا like us تُرِيدُونَ you wish أَن to تَصُدُّونَا hinder us عَمَّا from what كَانَ used to يَعْبُدُ worship ءَابَآؤُنَا our forefathers فَأْتُونَا So bring us بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ an authority مُّبِينٍۢ clear ١٠

Their messengers said, "Can there be doubt about Allāh, Creator of the heavens and earth? He invites you that He may forgive you of your sins, and He delays you [i.e., your death] for a specified term." They said, "You are not but men like us who wish to avert us from what our fathers were worshipping. So bring us a clear authority [i.e., evidence]."

— Come To Light

قَالَتْ Said لَهُمْ to them رُسُلُهُمْ their Messengers إِن Not نَّحْنُ we (are) إِلَّا but بَشَرٌۭ a human مِّثْلُكُمْ like you وَلَـٰكِنَّ but ٱللَّهَ Allah يَمُنُّ bestows His Grace عَلَىٰ on مَن whom يَشَآءُ He wills مِنْ of عِبَادِهِۦ ۖ His slaves وَمَا And not كَانَ is لَنَآ for us أَن that نَّأْتِيَكُم we bring you بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ an authority إِلَّا except بِإِذْنِ by the permission of Allah ٱللَّهِ ۚ by the permission of Allah وَعَلَى And upon ٱللَّهِ Allah فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ so let put (their) trust ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believers ١١

Their messengers said to them, "We are only men like you, but Allāh confers favor upon whom He wills of His servants. It has never been for us to bring you evidence except by permission of Allāh. And upon Allāh let the believers rely.

— Come To Light

وَمَا And what لَنَآ (is) for us أَلَّا that not نَتَوَكَّلَ we put our trust عَلَى upon ٱللَّهِ Allah وَقَدْ while certainly هَدَىٰنَا He has guided us سُبُلَنَا ۚ to our ways وَلَنَصْبِرَنَّ And surely we will bear with patience عَلَىٰ on مَآ what ءَاذَيْتُمُونَا ۚ harm you may cause us وَعَلَى And upon ٱللَّهِ Allah فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ so let put (their) trust ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ the ones who put (their) trust ١٢

And why should we not rely upon Allāh while He has guided us to our [good] ways. And we will surely be patient against whatever harm you should cause us. And upon Allāh let those who would rely [indeed] rely."

— Come To Light

وَقَالَ And said ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved لِرُسُلِهِمْ to their Messengers لَنُخْرِجَنَّكُم Surely we will drive you out مِّنْ of أَرْضِنَآ our land أَوْ or لَتَعُودُنَّ surely you should return فِى to مِلَّتِنَا ۖ our religion فَأَوْحَىٰٓ So inspired إِلَيْهِمْ to them رَبُّهُمْ their Lord لَنُهْلِكَنَّ We will surely destroy ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers ١٣

And those who disbelieved said to their messengers, "We will surely drive you out of our land, or you must return to our religion." So their Lord inspired to them, "We will surely destroy the wrongdoers.

— Come To Light

وَلَنُسْكِنَنَّكُمُ And surely We will make you dwell ٱلْأَرْضَ (in) the land مِنۢ after them بَعْدِهِمْ ۚ after them ذَٰلِكَ That لِمَنْ (is) for whoever خَافَ fears مَقَامِى standing before Me وَخَافَ and fears وَعِيدِ My Threat ١٤

And We will surely cause you to dwell in the land after them. That is for he who fears My position and fears My threat."

— Come To Light

وَٱسْتَفْتَحُوا۟ And they sought victory وَخَابَ and disappointed كُلُّ every جَبَّارٍ tyrant عَنِيدٍۢ obstinate ١٥

And they requested decision [i.e., victory from Allāh], and disappointed, [therefore], was every obstinate tyrant.

— Come To Light

مِّن of him وَرَآئِهِۦ Ahead جَهَنَّمُ (is) Hell وَيُسْقَىٰ and he will be made to drink مِن of مَّآءٍۢ water صَدِيدٍۢ purulent ١٦

Before him is Hell, and he will be given a drink of purulent water.

— Come To Light

يَتَجَرَّعُهُۥ He will sip it وَلَا but not يَكَادُ he will be near يُسِيغُهُۥ (to) swallowing it وَيَأْتِيهِ And will come to him ٱلْمَوْتُ the death مِن from كُلِّ every مَكَانٍۢ side وَمَا but not هُوَ he بِمَيِّتٍۢ ۖ will die وَمِن And ahead of him وَرَآئِهِۦ And ahead of him عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment غَلِيظٌۭ harsh ١٧

He will gulp it but will hardly [be able to] swallow it. And death will come to him from everywhere, but he is not to die. And before him is a massive punishment.

— Come To Light

مَّثَلُ (The) example ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve بِرَبِّهِمْ ۖ in their Lord أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ their deeds كَرَمَادٍ (are) like ashes ٱشْتَدَّتْ blows furiously بِهِ on it ٱلرِّيحُ the wind فِى in يَوْمٍ a day عَاصِفٍۢ ۖ stormy لَّا No يَقْدِرُونَ control (they have) مِمَّا of what كَسَبُوا۟ they have earned عَلَىٰ on شَىْءٍۢ ۚ anything ذَٰلِكَ That هُوَ [it] ٱلضَّلَـٰلُ (is) the straying ٱلْبَعِيدُ far ١٨

The example of those who disbelieve in their Lord is [that] their deeds are like ashes which the wind blows forcefully on a stormy day; they are unable [to keep] from what they earned a [single] thing. That is what is extreme error.

— Come To Light

أَلَمْ Do not تَرَ you see أَنَّ that ٱللَّهَ Allah خَلَقَ created ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ in truth إِن If يَشَأْ He wills يُذْهِبْكُمْ He can remove you وَيَأْتِ and bring بِخَلْقٍۢ a creation جَدِيدٍۢ new ١٩

Have you not seen [i.e., considered] that Allāh created the heavens and the earth in truth? If He wills, He can do away with you and produce a new creation.

— Come To Light

وَمَا And not ذَٰلِكَ (is) that عَلَى on ٱللَّهِ Allah بِعَزِيزٍۢ great ٢٠

And that is not difficult for Allāh.
