Surah Al-Kawthar

Surah Al-Kawthar is the shortest chapter (Surah) of the Holy Quran, consisting of only three verses. [1, 2, 3]

Arabic Text (بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ)

• 1. إِنَّآ أَعْطَيْنَاكَ ٱلْكَوْثَرَ

• 2. فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنْحَرْ

• 3. إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلْأَبْتَرُ [1, 2, 3]

English Transliteration

• 1. Innaa a'taina kal kauthar

• 2. Fa salli li rabbika wanhar

• 3. Inna shaani'aka huwal-abtar [1, 2]

Bangla Transliteration (বাংলা উচ্চারণ)

• ১. ইন্না আ'তাইনা কাল কাউসার

• ২. ফাসাল্লি লি রাব্বিকা ওয়ানহার

• ৩. ইন্না শানিআকা হুওয়াল আবতার

English Translation

• 1. Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muhammad], Al-Kawthar (Abundance/a river in Paradise).

• 2. So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone].

• 3. Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off (deprived of all goodness).

Bangla Translation (বাংলা অর্থ)

• ১. নিশ্চয় আমি আপনাকে কাওসার দান করেছি।

• ২. অতএব আপনার পালনকর্তার উদ্দেশ্যে নামায পড়ুন এবং কোরবানী করুন।

• ৩. যে আপনার শত্রু, সেই তো লেজকাটা, নির্বংশ (কল্যাণহীন ও শেকড়হীন)।

Tafsir (সংক্ষিপ্ত তাফসীর / Brief Commentary)

• Background (শানে নুযূল): This Makki Surah was revealed to comfort Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) during a time of extreme distress and grief. When the Prophet's infant son passed away, his opponents (such as Aas bin Wail) mockingly called him "Abtar" (cut off, meaning a man with no male descendants or legacy to carry his name). Allah revealed this Surah to refute them.

• Verse 1: "Al-Kawthar" means an abundance of goodness, spiritual bounties, knowledge, and a specific majestic river or pool (Hawd al-Kawthar) granted to the Prophet in Paradise.

• Verse 2: In gratitude for these boundless blessings, the Prophet is commanded to perform Salah (formal prayer) exclusively for Allah and offer Nahr (sacrificial slaughter for His sake).

• Verse 3: It was the enemy who mocked the Prophet who became truly cut off from history, memory, and divine mercy, while the name, teachings, and legacy of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) remain elevated and eternal across the world
