— Come To Light

89. Surah Al-Fajr
The Dawn · Makki · 30 Ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
وَلَيَالٍ And the nights عَشْرٍۢ ten ٢
And [by] ten nights
— Come To Light
وَٱلشَّفْعِ And the even وَٱلْوَتْرِ and the odd ٣
And [by] the even [number] and the odd
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّيْلِ And the night إِذَا when يَسْرِ it passes ٤
And [by] the night when it passes,
— Come To Light
هَلْ Is فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that قَسَمٌۭ (not) an oath لِّذِى for those حِجْرٍ who understand ٥
Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception?
— Come To Light
أَلَمْ Did not تَرَ you see كَيْفَ how فَعَلَ dealt رَبُّكَ your Lord بِعَادٍ with Aad ٦
Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with ʿAad -
— Come To Light
إِرَمَ Iram ذَاتِ possessors (of) ٱلْعِمَادِ lofty pillars ٧
[With] Iram - who had lofty pillars,
— Come To Light
ٱلَّتِى Which لَمْ not يُخْلَقْ had been created مِثْلُهَا like them فِى in ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ the cities ٨
The likes of whom had never been created in the land?
— Come To Light
وَثَمُودَ And Thamud ٱلَّذِينَ who جَابُوا۟ carved out ٱلصَّخْرَ the rocks بِٱلْوَادِ in the valley ٩
And [with] Thamūd, who carved out the rocks in the valley?
— Come To Light
وَفِرْعَوْنَ And Firaun ذِى owner of ٱلْأَوْتَادِ stakes ١٠
And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes?
— Come To Light
ٱلَّذِينَ Who طَغَوْا۟ transgressed فِى in ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ the lands ١١
[All of] whom oppressed within the lands
— Come To Light
فَأَكْثَرُوا۟ And (made) much فِيهَا therein ٱلْفَسَادَ corruption ١٢
And increased therein the corruption.
— Come To Light
فَصَبَّ So poured عَلَيْهِمْ on them رَبُّكَ your Lord سَوْطَ scourge عَذَابٍ (of) punishment ١٣
So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ (is) surely Ever Watchful ١٤
Indeed, your Lord is in observation.
— Come To Light
فَأَمَّا And as for ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ man إِذَا when مَا does ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ try him رَبُّهُۥ his Lord فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ and is generous to him وَنَعَّمَهُۥ and favors him فَيَقُولُ he says رَبِّىٓ My Lord أَكْرَمَنِ has honored me ١٥
And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me."
— Come To Light
وَأَمَّآ But إِذَا when مَا does ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ He try him فَقَدَرَ and restricts عَلَيْهِ for him رِزْقَهُۥ his provision فَيَقُولُ then he says رَبِّىٓ My Lord أَهَـٰنَنِ (has) humiliated me ١٦
But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me."
— Come To Light
كَلَّا ۖ Nay بَل But لَّا not تُكْرِمُونَ you honor ٱلْيَتِيمَ the orphan ١٧
No! But you do not honor the orphan
— Come To Light
وَلَا And not تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ you feel the urge عَلَىٰ to طَعَامِ feed ٱلْمِسْكِينِ the poor ١٨
And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.
— Come To Light
وَتَأْكُلُونَ And you consume ٱلتُّرَاثَ the inheritance أَكْلًۭا devouring لَّمًّۭا altogether ١٩
And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether,
— Come To Light
وَتُحِبُّونَ And you love ٱلْمَالَ wealth حُبًّۭا (with) love جَمًّۭا immense ٢٠
And you love wealth with immense love.
— Come To Light
