The Man · Madani · 31 Ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
هَلْ Has أَتَىٰ (there) come عَلَى upon ٱلْإِنسَـٰنِ man حِينٌۭ a period مِّنَ of ٱلدَّهْرِ time لَمْ not يَكُن he was شَيْـًۭٔا a thing مَّذْكُورًا mentioned ١
Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned?
— Come To Light
إِنَّا Indeed, We خَلَقْنَا [We] created ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ man مِن from نُّطْفَةٍ a semen-drop أَمْشَاجٍۢ a mixture نَّبْتَلِيهِ (that) We test him فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ so We made (for) him سَمِيعًۢا hearing بَصِيرًا and sight ٢
Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing.
— Come To Light
إِنَّا Indeed, We هَدَيْنَـٰهُ guided him ٱلسَّبِيلَ (to) the way إِمَّا whether شَاكِرًۭا (he) be grateful وَإِمَّا and whether كَفُورًا (he) be ungrateful ٣
Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful.
— Come To Light
إِنَّآ Indeed, We أَعْتَدْنَا [We] have prepared لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ for the disbelievers سَلَـٰسِلَا۟ chains وَأَغْلَـٰلًۭا and shackles وَسَعِيرًا and a Blazing Fire ٤
Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed ٱلْأَبْرَارَ the righteous يَشْرَبُونَ will drink مِن from كَأْسٍۢ a cup كَانَ is مِزَاجُهَا its mixture كَافُورًا (of) Kafur ٥
Indeed, the righteous will drink from a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of Kāfūr,
— Come To Light
عَيْنًۭا A spring يَشْرَبُ will drink بِهَا from it عِبَادُ (the) slaves ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah يُفَجِّرُونَهَا causing it to gush forth تَفْجِيرًۭا abundantly ٦
A spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allāh will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance].
— Come To Light
يُوفُونَ They fulfill بِٱلنَّذْرِ the vows وَيَخَافُونَ and fear يَوْمًۭا a Day كَانَ (which) is شَرُّهُۥ its evil مُسْتَطِيرًۭا widespread ٧
They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread.
— Come To Light
وَيُطْعِمُونَ And they feed ٱلطَّعَامَ the food عَلَىٰ in spite of حُبِّهِۦ love (for) it مِسْكِينًۭا (to the) needy وَيَتِيمًۭا and (the) orphan وَأَسِيرًا and (the) captive ٨
And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive,
— Come To Light
إِنَّمَا Only نُطْعِمُكُمْ we feed you لِوَجْهِ for (the) Countenance ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah لَا Not نُرِيدُ we desire مِنكُمْ from you جَزَآءًۭ any reward وَلَا and not شُكُورًا thanks ٩
[Saying], "We feed you only for the face [i.e., approval] of Allāh. We wish not from you reward or gratitude.
— Come To Light
إِنَّا Indeed, we نَخَافُ fear مِن from رَّبِّنَا our Lord يَوْمًا a Day عَبُوسًۭا harsh قَمْطَرِيرًۭا and distressful ١٠
Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful."
— Come To Light
فَوَقَىٰهُمُ But will protect them ٱللَّهُ Allah شَرَّ (from the) evil ذَٰلِكَ (of) that ٱلْيَوْمِ Day وَلَقَّىٰهُمْ and will cause them to meet نَضْرَةًۭ radiance وَسُرُورًۭا and happiness ١١
So Allāh will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness
— Come To Light
وَجَزَىٰهُم And will reward them بِمَا because صَبَرُوا۟ they were patient جَنَّةًۭ (with) a Garden وَحَرِيرًۭا and silk ١٢
And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments].
— Come To Light
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ Reclining فِيهَا therein عَلَى on ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ ۖ couches لَا Not يَرَوْنَ they will see فِيهَا therein شَمْسًۭا sun وَلَا and not زَمْهَرِيرًۭا freezing cold ١٣
[They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold.
— Come To Light
وَدَانِيَةً And near عَلَيْهِمْ above them ظِلَـٰلُهَا (are) its shades وَذُلِّلَتْ and will hang low قُطُوفُهَا its cluster of fruits تَذْلِيلًۭا dangling low ١٤
And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance.
— Come To Light
وَيُطَافُ And will be circulated عَلَيْهِم among them بِـَٔانِيَةٍۢ vessels مِّن of فِضَّةٍۢ silver وَأَكْوَابٍۢ and cups كَانَتْ (that) are قَوَارِيرَا۠ (of) crystal ١٥
And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass],
— Come To Light
قَوَارِيرَا۟ Crystal-clear مِن of فِضَّةٍۢ silver قَدَّرُوهَا They will determine its تَقْدِيرًۭا measure ١٦
Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure.
— Come To Light
وَيُسْقَوْنَ And they will be given to drink فِيهَا therein كَأْسًۭا a cup كَانَ is مِزَاجُهَا its mixture زَنجَبِيلًا (of) Zanjabil ١٧
And they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger
— Come To Light
عَيْنًۭا A spring فِيهَا therein تُسَمَّىٰ named سَلْسَبِيلًۭا Salsabil ١٨
[From] a fountain within it [i.e., Paradise] named Salsabeel.
— Come To Light
۞ وَيَطُوفُ And will circulate عَلَيْهِمْ among them وِلْدَٰنٌۭ young boys مُّخَلَّدُونَ made eternal إِذَا When رَأَيْتَهُمْ you see them حَسِبْتَهُمْ you would think them لُؤْلُؤًۭا (to be) pearls مَّنثُورًۭا scattered ١٩
There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls.
— Come To Light
وَإِذَا And when رَأَيْتَ you look ثَمَّ then رَأَيْتَ you will see نَعِيمًۭا blessings وَمُلْكًۭا and a kingdom كَبِيرًا great ٢٠
And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion.
— Come To Light
عَـٰلِيَهُمْ Upon them ثِيَابُ (will be) garments سُندُسٍ (of) fine silk خُضْرٌۭ green وَإِسْتَبْرَقٌۭ ۖ and heavy brocade وَحُلُّوٓا۟ And they will be adorned أَسَاوِرَ (with) bracelets مِن of فِضَّةٍۢ silver وَسَقَىٰهُمْ and will give them to drink رَبُّهُمْ their Lord شَرَابًۭا a drink طَهُورًا pure ٢١
Upon them [i.e., the inhabitants] will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed هَـٰذَا this كَانَ is لَكُمْ for you جَزَآءًۭ a reward وَكَانَ and has been سَعْيُكُم your effort مَّشْكُورًا appreciated ٢٢
[And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated."
— Come To Light
إِنَّا Indeed, We نَحْنُ [We] نَزَّلْنَا [We] revealed عَلَيْكَ to you ٱلْقُرْءَانَ the Quran تَنزِيلًۭا progressively ٢٣
Indeed, it is We who have sent down to you, [O Muḥammad], the Qur’ān progressively.
— Come To Light
فَٱصْبِرْ So be patient لِحُكْمِ for (the) Command رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord وَلَا and (do) not تُطِعْ obey مِنْهُمْ from them ءَاثِمًا any sinner أَوْ or كَفُورًۭا disbeliever ٢٤
So be patient for the decision of your Lord and do not obey from among them a sinner or ungrateful [disbeliever].
— Come To Light
وَٱذْكُرِ And remember ٱسْمَ (the) name رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord بُكْرَةًۭ morning وَأَصِيلًۭا and evening ٢٥
And mention the name of your Lord [in prayer] morning and evening
— Come To Light
وَمِنَ And of ٱلَّيْلِ the night فَٱسْجُدْ prostrate لَهُۥ to Him وَسَبِّحْهُ and glorify Him لَيْلًۭا a night طَوِيلًا long ٢٦
And during the night prostrate to Him and exalt [i.e., praise] Him a long [part of the] night.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ these يُحِبُّونَ love ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ the immediate وَيَذَرُونَ and leave وَرَآءَهُمْ behind them يَوْمًۭا a Day ثَقِيلًۭا grave ٢٧
Indeed, these [disbelievers] love the immediate and leave behind them a grave Day.
— Come To Light
نَّحْنُ We خَلَقْنَـٰهُمْ created them وَشَدَدْنَآ and We strengthened أَسْرَهُمْ ۖ their forms وَإِذَا and when شِئْنَا We will بَدَّلْنَآ We can change أَمْثَـٰلَهُمْ their likeness[es] تَبْدِيلًا (with) a change ٢٨
We have created them and strengthened their forms, and when We will, We can change their likenesses with [complete] alteration.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed هَـٰذِهِۦ this تَذْكِرَةٌۭ ۖ (is) a reminder فَمَن so whoever شَآءَ wills ٱتَّخَذَ let him take إِلَىٰ to رَبِّهِۦ his Lord سَبِيلًۭا a way ٢٩
Indeed, this is a reminder, so he who wills may take to his Lord a way.
— Come To Light
وَمَا And not تَشَآءُونَ you will إِلَّآ except أَن that يَشَآءَ wills ٱللَّهُ ۚ Allah إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah كَانَ is عَلِيمًا All-Knower حَكِيمًۭا All-Wise ٣٠
And you do not will except that Allāh wills. Indeed, Allāh is ever Knowing and Wise.
— Come To Light
يُدْخِلُ He admits مَن whom يَشَآءُ He wills فِى into رَحْمَتِهِۦ ۚ His mercy وَٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ but (for) the wrongdoers أَعَدَّ He has prepared لَهُمْ for them عَذَابًا a punishment أَلِيمًۢا painful ٣١
He admits whom He wills into His mercy; but the wrongdoers - He has prepared for them a painful punishment.
— Come To Light
