تَبَـٰرَكَ Blessed is ٱلَّذِى He بِيَدِهِ in Whose Hand ٱلْمُلْكُ (is) the Dominion وَهُوَ and He عَلَىٰ (is) over كُلِّ every شَىْءٍۢ thing قَدِيرٌ All-Powerful ١
Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion, and He is over all things competent -
— Come To Light
ٱلَّذِى The One Who خَلَقَ created ٱلْمَوْتَ death وَٱلْحَيَوٰةَ and life لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ that He may test you أَيُّكُمْ which of you أَحْسَنُ (is) best عَمَلًۭا ۚ (in) deed وَهُوَ And He ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty ٱلْغَفُورُ the Oft-Forgiving ٢
[He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed - and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving -
— Come To Light
ٱلَّذِى The One Who خَلَقَ created سَبْعَ seven سَمَـٰوَٰتٍۢ heavens طِبَاقًۭا ۖ one above another مَّا Not تَرَىٰ you see فِى in خَلْقِ (the) creation ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ (of) the Most Gracious مِن any تَفَـٰوُتٍۢ ۖ fault فَٱرْجِعِ So return ٱلْبَصَرَ the vision هَلْ can تَرَىٰ you see مِن any فُطُورٍۢ flaw ٣
[And] who created seven heavens in layers. You do not see in the creation of the Most Merciful any inconsistency. So return [your] vision [to the sky]; do you see any breaks?
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then ٱرْجِعِ return ٱلْبَصَرَ the vision كَرَّتَيْنِ twice (again) يَنقَلِبْ Will return إِلَيْكَ to you ٱلْبَصَرُ the vision خَاسِئًۭا humbled وَهُوَ while it حَسِيرٌۭ (is) fatigued ٤
Then return [your] vision twice again. [Your] vision will return to you humbled while it is fatigued.
— Come To Light
وَلَقَدْ And certainly زَيَّنَّا We have beautified ٱلسَّمَآءَ the heaven ٱلدُّنْيَا nearest بِمَصَـٰبِيحَ with lamps وَجَعَلْنَـٰهَا and We have made them رُجُومًۭا (as) missiles لِّلشَّيَـٰطِينِ ۖ for the devils وَأَعْتَدْنَا and We have prepared لَهُمْ for them عَذَابَ punishment ٱلسَّعِيرِ (of) the Blaze ٥
And We have certainly beautified the nearest heaven with lamps [i.e., stars] and have made [from] them what is thrown at the devils and have prepared for them the punishment of the Blaze.
— Come To Light
وَلِلَّذِينَ And for those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved بِرَبِّهِمْ in their Lord عَذَابُ (is the) punishment جَهَنَّمَ ۖ (of) Hell وَبِئْسَ and wretched is ٱلْمَصِيرُ the destination ٦
And for those who disbelieved in their Lord is the punishment of Hell, and wretched is the destination.
— Come To Light
إِذَآ When أُلْقُوا۟ they are thrown فِيهَا therein سَمِعُوا۟ they will hear لَهَا from it شَهِيقًۭا an inhaling وَهِىَ while it تَفُورُ boils up ٧
When they are thrown into it, they hear from it a [dreadful] inhaling while it boils up.
— Come To Light
تَكَادُ It almost تَمَيَّزُ bursts مِنَ from ٱلْغَيْظِ ۖ rage كُلَّمَآ Every time أُلْقِىَ is thrown فِيهَا therein فَوْجٌۭ a group سَأَلَهُمْ (will) ask them خَزَنَتُهَآ its keepers أَلَمْ Did not يَأْتِكُمْ come to you نَذِيرٌۭ a warner ٨
It almost bursts with rage. Every time a company is thrown into it, its keepers ask them, "Did there not come to you a warner?"
— Come To Light
قَالُوا۟ They will say بَلَىٰ Yes قَدْ indeed جَآءَنَا came to us نَذِيرٌۭ a warner فَكَذَّبْنَا but we denied وَقُلْنَا and we said مَا Not نَزَّلَ has sent down ٱللَّهُ Allah مِن any شَىْءٍ thing إِنْ Not أَنتُمْ you (are) إِلَّا but فِى in ضَلَـٰلٍۢ error كَبِيرٍۢ great ٩
They will say, "Yes, a warner had come to us, but we denied and said, 'Allāh has not sent down anything. You are not but in great error.'"
— Come To Light
وَقَالُوا۟ And they will say لَوْ If كُنَّا we had نَسْمَعُ listened أَوْ or نَعْقِلُ reasoned مَا not كُنَّا we (would) have been فِىٓ among أَصْحَـٰبِ (the) companions ٱلسَّعِيرِ (of) the Blaze ١٠
And they will say, "If only we had been listening or reasoning, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze."
— Come To Light
فَٱعْتَرَفُوا۟ Then they (will) confess بِذَنۢبِهِمْ their sins فَسُحْقًۭا so away with لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ (the) companions ٱلسَّعِيرِ (of) the Blaze ١١
And they will admit their sin, so [it is] alienation for the companions of the Blaze.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who يَخْشَوْنَ fear رَبَّهُم their Lord بِٱلْغَيْبِ unseen لَهُم for them مَّغْفِرَةٌۭ (is) forgiveness وَأَجْرٌۭ and a reward كَبِيرٌۭ great ١٢
Indeed, those who fear their Lord unseen will have forgiveness and great reward.
— Come To Light
وَأَسِرُّوا۟ And conceal قَوْلَكُمْ your speech أَوِ or ٱجْهَرُوا۟ proclaim بِهِۦٓ ۖ it إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He عَلِيمٌۢ (is the) All-Knower بِذَاتِ of what (is in) ٱلصُّدُورِ the breasts ١٣
And conceal your speech or publicize it; indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.
— Come To Light
أَلَا Does not يَعْلَمُ know مَنْ (the One) Who خَلَقَ created وَهُوَ And He ٱللَّطِيفُ (is) the Subtle ٱلْخَبِيرُ the All-Aware ١٤
Does He who created not know, while He is the Subtle, the Aware?
— Come To Light
هُوَ He ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who جَعَلَ made لَكُمُ for you ٱلْأَرْضَ the earth ذَلُولًۭا subservient فَٱمْشُوا۟ so walk فِى in مَنَاكِبِهَا (the) paths thereof وَكُلُوا۟ and eat مِن of رِّزْقِهِۦ ۖ His provision وَإِلَيْهِ and to Him ٱلنُّشُورُ (is) the Resurrection ١٥
It is He who made the earth tame for you - so walk among its slopes and eat of His provision - and to Him is the resurrection.
— Come To Light
ءَأَمِنتُم Do you feel secure مَّن (from Him) Who فِى (is) in ٱلسَّمَآءِ the heaven أَن not يَخْسِفَ He will cause to swallow بِكُمُ you ٱلْأَرْضَ the earth فَإِذَا when هِىَ it تَمُورُ sways ١٦
Do you feel secure that He who is above would not cause the earth to swallow you and suddenly it would sway?
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or أَمِنتُم do you feel secure مَّن (from Him) Who فِى (is) in ٱلسَّمَآءِ the heaven أَن that يُرْسِلَ He will send عَلَيْكُمْ against you حَاصِبًۭا ۖ a storm of stones فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ Then you would know كَيْفَ how نَذِيرِ (was) My warning ١٧
Or do you feel secure that He who is above would not send against you a storm of stones? Then you would know how [severe] was My warning.
— Come To Light
وَلَقَدْ And indeed كَذَّبَ denied ٱلَّذِينَ those مِن from قَبْلِهِمْ before them فَكَيْفَ and how كَانَ was نَكِيرِ My rejection ١٨
And already had those before them denied, and how [terrible] was My reproach.
— Come To Light
أَوَلَمْ Do not يَرَوْا۟ they see إِلَى [to] ٱلطَّيْرِ the birds فَوْقَهُمْ above them صَـٰٓفَّـٰتٍۢ spreading (their wings) وَيَقْبِضْنَ ۚ and folding مَا Not يُمْسِكُهُنَّ holds them إِلَّا except ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ ۚ the Most Gracious إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He بِكُلِّ (is) of every شَىْءٍۭ thing بَصِيرٌ All-Seer ١٩
Do they not see the birds above them with wings outspread and [sometimes] folded in? None holds them [aloft] except the Most Merciful. Indeed He is, of all things, Seeing.
— Come To Light
أَمَّنْ Who is هَـٰذَا this ٱلَّذِى the one هُوَ he جُندٌۭ (is) an army لَّكُمْ for you يَنصُرُكُم to help you مِّن from دُونِ besides ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۚ the Most Gracious إِنِ Not ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ (are) the disbelievers إِلَّا but فِى in غُرُورٍ delusion ٢٠
Or who is it that could be an army for you to aid you other than the Most Merciful? The disbelievers are not but in delusion.
— Come To Light
