قَدْ Indeed أَفْلَحَ successful ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ (are) the believers ١
Certainly will the believers have succeeded:
— Come To Light
23. Surah Al-Mu'minun
The Believers · Makki · 118 Ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who هُمْ [they] فِى during صَلَاتِهِمْ their prayers خَـٰشِعُونَ (are) humbly submissive ٢
They who are during their prayer humbly intent
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ Those who هُمْ [they] عَنِ from ٱللَّغْوِ the vain talk مُعْرِضُونَ turn away ٣
And they who turn away from ill speech
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ Those who هُمْ [they] لِلزَّكَوٰةِ of purification works فَـٰعِلُونَ (are) doers ٤
And they who are observant of zakāh
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who هُمْ [they] لِفُرُوجِهِمْ of their modesty حَـٰفِظُونَ (are) guardians ٥
And they who guard their private parts
— Come To Light
إِلَّا Except عَلَىٰٓ from أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ their spouses أَوْ or مَا what مَلَكَتْ possess أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ their right hands فَإِنَّهُمْ then indeed, they غَيْرُ (are) not مَلُومِينَ blameworthy ٦
Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed -
— Come To Light
فَمَنِ Then whoever ٱبْتَغَىٰ seeks وَرَآءَ beyond ذَٰلِكَ that فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those هُمُ [they] ٱلْعَادُونَ (are) the transgressors ٧
But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors -
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who هُمْ [they] لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ of their trusts وَعَهْدِهِمْ and their promise(s) رَٰعُونَ (are) observers ٨
And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who هُمْ [they] عَلَىٰ over صَلَوَٰتِهِمْ their prayers يُحَافِظُونَ they guard ٩
And they who carefully maintain their prayers -
— Come To Light
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those هُمُ [they] ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ (are) the inheritors ١٠
Those are the inheritors
— Come To Light
ٱلَّذِينَ Who يَرِثُونَ will inherit ٱلْفِرْدَوْسَ the Paradise هُمْ They فِيهَا therein خَـٰلِدُونَ (will) abide forever ١١
Who will inherit al-Firdaus. They will abide therein eternally.
— Come To Light
وَلَقَدْ And indeed خَلَقْنَا We created ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ the humankind مِن from سُلَـٰلَةٍۢ an essence مِّن of طِينٍۢ clay ١٢
And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then جَعَلْنَـٰهُ We placed him نُطْفَةًۭ (as) a semen-drop فِى in قَرَارٍۢ a resting place مَّكِينٍۢ firm ١٣
Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging [i.e., the womb].
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then خَلَقْنَا We created ٱلنُّطْفَةَ the semen-drop عَلَقَةًۭ (into) a clinging substance فَخَلَقْنَا then We created ٱلْعَلَقَةَ the clinging substance مُضْغَةًۭ (into) an embryonic lump فَخَلَقْنَا then We created ٱلْمُضْغَةَ the embryonic lump عِظَـٰمًۭا (into) bones فَكَسَوْنَا then We clothed ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ the bones لَحْمًۭا (with) flesh ثُمَّ then أَنشَأْنَـٰهُ We produce it خَلْقًا (as) a creation ءَاخَرَ ۚ another فَتَبَارَكَ So blessed is ٱللَّهُ Allah أَحْسَنُ (the) Best ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ (of) the Creators ١٤
Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allāh, the best of creators.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then إِنَّكُم indeed, you بَعْدَ after ذَٰلِكَ that لَمَيِّتُونَ surely (will) die ١٥
Then indeed, after that you are to die.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then إِنَّكُمْ indeed, you يَوْمَ (on the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection تُبْعَثُونَ will be resurrected ١٦
Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, will be resurrected.
— Come To Light
وَلَقَدْ And indeed خَلَقْنَا We (have) created فَوْقَكُمْ above you سَبْعَ seven طَرَآئِقَ paths وَمَا and not كُنَّا We are عَنِ of ٱلْخَلْقِ the creation غَـٰفِلِينَ unaware ١٧
And We have created above you seven layered heavens, and never have We been of [Our] creation unaware.
— Come To Light
وَأَنزَلْنَا And We send down مِنَ from ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky مَآءًۢ water بِقَدَرٍۢ in (due) measure فَأَسْكَنَّـٰهُ then We cause it to settle فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ the earth وَإِنَّا And indeed, We عَلَىٰ on ذَهَابٍۭ taking it away بِهِۦ taking it away لَقَـٰدِرُونَ surely (are) Able ١٨
And We have sent down rain from the sky in a measured amount and settled it in the earth. And indeed, We are Able to take it away.
— Come To Light
فَأَنشَأْنَا Then We produced لَكُم for you بِهِۦ by it جَنَّـٰتٍۢ gardens مِّن of date-palms نَّخِيلٍۢ of date-palms وَأَعْنَـٰبٍۢ and grapevines لَّكُمْ for you فِيهَا in it فَوَٰكِهُ (are) fruits كَثِيرَةٌۭ abundant وَمِنْهَا and from them تَأْكُلُونَ you eat ١٩
And We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for you are abundant fruits and from which you eat.
— Come To Light
وَشَجَرَةًۭ And a tree تَخْرُجُ (that) springs forth مِن from طُورِ Mount Sinai سَيْنَآءَ Mount Sinai تَنۢبُتُ (which) produces بِٱلدُّهْنِ oil وَصِبْغٍۢ and a relish لِّلْـَٔاكِلِينَ for those who eat ٢٠
And [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food [i.e., olives] for those who eat.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّ And indeed لَكُمْ for you فِى in ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ the cattle لَعِبْرَةًۭ ۖ surely, (is) a lesson نُّسْقِيكُم We give you drink مِّمَّا from what فِى (is) in بُطُونِهَا their bellies وَلَكُمْ and for you فِيهَا in them مَنَـٰفِعُ (are) benefits كَثِيرَةٌۭ many وَمِنْهَا and of them تَأْكُلُونَ you eat ٢١
And indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat.
— Come To Light
وَعَلَيْهَا And on them وَعَلَى and on ٱلْفُلْكِ [the] ships تُحْمَلُونَ you are carried ٢٢
And upon them and on ships you are carried.
— Come To Light
وَلَقَدْ And verily أَرْسَلْنَا We sent نُوحًا Nuh إِلَىٰ to قَوْمِهِۦ his people فَقَالَ and he said يَـٰقَوْمِ O my people ٱعْبُدُوا۟ Worship ٱللَّهَ Allah مَا not لَكُم for you مِّنْ (is) any إِلَـٰهٍ god غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ other than Him أَفَلَا Then will not تَتَّقُونَ you fear ٢٣
And We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"
— Come To Light
فَقَالَ But said ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟ the chiefs ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved مِن among قَوْمِهِۦ his people مَا This is not هَـٰذَآ This is not إِلَّا but بَشَرٌۭ a man مِّثْلُكُمْ like you يُرِيدُ he wishes أَن to يَتَفَضَّلَ assert (his) superiority عَلَيْكُمْ over you وَلَوْ and if شَآءَ Allah had willed ٱللَّهُ Allah had willed لَأَنزَلَ surely He (would have) sent down مَلَـٰٓئِكَةًۭ Angels مَّا Not سَمِعْنَا we heard بِهَـٰذَا of this فِىٓ from ءَابَآئِنَا our forefathers ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ our forefathers ٢٤
But the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "This is not but a man like yourselves who wishes to take precedence over you; and if Allāh had willed [to send a messenger], He would have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our forefathers.
— Come To Light
إِنْ Not هُوَ he إِلَّا (is) but رَجُلٌۢ a man بِهِۦ in him جِنَّةٌۭ (is) madness فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ so wait بِهِۦ concerning him حَتَّىٰ until حِينٍۢ a time ٢٥
He is not but a man possessed with madness, so wait concerning him for a time."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said رَبِّ My Lord ٱنصُرْنِى Help me بِمَا because كَذَّبُونِ they deny me ٢٦
[Noah] said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."
— Come To Light
فَأَوْحَيْنَآ So We inspired إِلَيْهِ to him أَنِ That ٱصْنَعِ construct ٱلْفُلْكَ the ship بِأَعْيُنِنَا under Our eyes وَوَحْيِنَا and Our inspiration فَإِذَا then when جَآءَ comes أَمْرُنَا Our Command وَفَارَ and gushes forth ٱلتَّنُّورُ ۙ the oven فَٱسْلُكْ then put فِيهَا into it مِن of كُلٍّۢ every (kind) زَوْجَيْنِ (of) mates ٱثْنَيْنِ two وَأَهْلَكَ and your family إِلَّا except مَن those سَبَقَ (has) preceded عَلَيْهِ against whom ٱلْقَوْلُ the Word مِنْهُمْ ۖ thereof وَلَا And (do) not تُخَـٰطِبْنِى address Me فِى concerning ٱلَّذِينَ those who ظَلَمُوٓا۟ ۖ wronged إِنَّهُم indeed, they مُّغْرَقُونَ (are) the ones to be drowned ٢٧
So We inspired to him, "Construct the ship under Our observation and Our inspiration, and when Our command comes and the oven overflows, put into it [i.e., the ship] from each [creature] two mates and your family, except him for whom the decree [of destruction] has proceeded. And do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned.
— Come To Light
فَإِذَا And when ٱسْتَوَيْتَ you (have) boarded أَنتَ you وَمَن and whoever مَّعَكَ (is) with you عَلَى [on] ٱلْفُلْكِ the ship فَقُلِ then say ٱلْحَمْدُ Praise لِلَّهِ (be) to Allah ٱلَّذِى Who نَجَّىٰنَا (has) saved us مِنَ from ٱلْقَوْمِ the people ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers ٢٨
And when you have boarded the ship, you and those with you, then say, 'Praise to Allāh who has saved us from the wrongdoing people.'
— Come To Light
وَقُل And say رَّبِّ My Lord أَنزِلْنِى cause me to land مُنزَلًۭا (at) a landing place مُّبَارَكًۭا blessed وَأَنتَ and You خَيْرُ (are) the Best ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ (of) those who cause to land.' ٢٩
And say, 'My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].'"
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed فِى in ذَٰلِكَ that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ surely (are) Signs وَإِن and indeed كُنَّا We are لَمُبْتَلِينَ surely testing ٣٠
Indeed in that are signs, and indeed, We are ever testing [Our servants].
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then أَنشَأْنَا We produced مِنۢ after them بَعْدِهِمْ after them قَرْنًا a generation ءَاخَرِينَ another ٣١
Then We produced after them a generation of others.
— Come To Light
فَأَرْسَلْنَا And We sent فِيهِمْ among them رَسُولًۭا a Messenger مِّنْهُمْ from themselves أَنِ [that] ٱعْبُدُوا۟ Worship ٱللَّهَ Allah مَا not لَكُم for you مِّنْ (is) any إِلَـٰهٍ god غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ other than Him أَفَلَا Then will not تَتَّقُونَ you fear ٣٢
And We sent among them a messenger from themselves, [saying], "Worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"
— Come To Light
وَقَالَ And said ٱلْمَلَأُ the chiefs مِن of قَوْمِهِ his people ٱلَّذِينَ who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved وَكَذَّبُوا۟ and denied بِلِقَآءِ (the) meeting ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ (of) the Hereafter وَأَتْرَفْنَـٰهُمْ while We had given them luxury فِى in ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ the life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world مَا Not هَـٰذَآ (is) this إِلَّا but بَشَرٌۭ a man مِّثْلُكُمْ like you يَأْكُلُ He eats مِمَّا of what تَأْكُلُونَ you eat مِنْهُ [from it] وَيَشْرَبُ and he drinks مِمَّا of what تَشْرَبُونَ you drink ٣٣
And the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, "This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink.
— Come To Light
وَلَئِنْ And surely if أَطَعْتُم you obey بَشَرًۭا a man مِّثْلَكُمْ like you إِنَّكُمْ indeed, you إِذًۭا then لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ surely (will be) losers ٣٤
And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers.
— Come To Light
أَيَعِدُكُمْ Does he promise you أَنَّكُمْ that you إِذَا when مِتُّمْ you are dead وَكُنتُمْ and you become تُرَابًۭا dust وَعِظَـٰمًا and bones أَنَّكُم that you مُّخْرَجُونَ (will be) brought forth ٣٥
Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]?
— Come To Light
۞ هَيْهَاتَ Far-(fetched) هَيْهَاتَ far-(fetched) لِمَا is what تُوعَدُونَ you are promised ٣٦
How far, how far, is that which you are promised.
— Come To Light
إِنْ Not هِىَ it إِلَّا (is) but حَيَاتُنَا our life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world نَمُوتُ we die وَنَحْيَا and we live وَمَا and not نَحْنُ we بِمَبْعُوثِينَ (will be) resurrected ٣٧
It [i.e., life] is not but our worldly life - we die and live, but we will not be resurrected.
— Come To Light
إِنْ Not هُوَ (is) he إِلَّا but رَجُلٌ a man ٱفْتَرَىٰ who (has) invented عَلَى about ٱللَّهِ Allah كَذِبًۭا a lie وَمَا and not نَحْنُ we لَهُۥ (in) him بِمُؤْمِنِينَ (are) believers ٣٨
He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allāh, and we will not believe him."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said رَبِّ My Lord ٱنصُرْنِى Help me بِمَا because كَذَّبُونِ they deny me ٣٩
He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He said عَمَّا After a little while قَلِيلٍۢ After a little while لَّيُصْبِحُنَّ surely they will become نَـٰدِمِينَ regretful ٤٠
[Allāh] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful."
— Come To Light
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ So seized them ٱلصَّيْحَةُ the awful cry بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ and We made them غُثَآءًۭ ۚ (as) rubbish of dead leaves فَبُعْدًۭا So away لِّلْقَوْمِ with the people ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers ٤١
So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then أَنشَأْنَا We produced مِنۢ after them بَعْدِهِمْ after them قُرُونًا a generation ءَاخَرِينَ another ٤٢
Then We produced after them other generations.
— Come To Light
مَا Not تَسْبِقُ can precede مِنْ any أُمَّةٍ nation أَجَلَهَا its term وَمَا and not يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ they (can) delay (it) ٤٣
No nation will precede its time [of termination], nor will they remain [thereafter].
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then أَرْسَلْنَا We sent رُسُلَنَا Our Messengers تَتْرَا ۖ (in) succession كُلَّ Every time مَا Every time جَآءَ came أُمَّةًۭ (to) a nation رَّسُولُهَا its Messenger كَذَّبُوهُ ۚ they denied him فَأَتْبَعْنَا so We made (them) follow بَعْضَهُم some of them بَعْضًۭا others وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ and We made them أَحَادِيثَ ۚ narrations فَبُعْدًۭا So away لِّقَوْمٍۢ with a people لَّا not يُؤْمِنُونَ they believe ٤٤
Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe.
— Come To Light
ثُمَّ Then أَرْسَلْنَا We sent مُوسَىٰ Musa وَأَخَاهُ and his brother هَـٰرُونَ Harun بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا with Our Signs وَسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ and an authority مُّبِينٍ clear ٤٥
Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a clear authority
— Come To Light
إِلَىٰ To فِرْعَوْنَ Firaun وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ and his chiefs فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ but they behaved arrogantly وَكَانُوا۟ and they were قَوْمًا a people عَالِينَ haughty ٤٦
To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people.
— Come To Light
فَقَالُوٓا۟ Then they said أَنُؤْمِنُ Shall we believe لِبَشَرَيْنِ (in) two men مِثْلِنَا like ourselves وَقَوْمُهُمَا while their people لَنَا for us عَـٰبِدُونَ (are) slaves ٤٧
They said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?"
— Come To Light
فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا So they denied them فَكَانُوا۟ and they became مِنَ of ٱلْمُهْلَكِينَ those who were destroyed ٤٨
So they denied them and were of those destroyed.
— Come To Light
وَلَقَدْ And verily ءَاتَيْنَا We gave مُوسَى Musa ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Scripture لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may يَهْتَدُونَ be guided ٤٩
And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided.
— Come To Light
وَجَعَلْنَا And We made ٱبْنَ (the) son مَرْيَمَ (of) Maryam وَأُمَّهُۥٓ and his mother ءَايَةًۭ a Sign وَءَاوَيْنَـٰهُمَآ and We sheltered them إِلَىٰ to رَبْوَةٍۢ a high ground ذَاتِ of tranquility قَرَارٍۢ of tranquility وَمَعِينٍۢ and water springs ٥٠
And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water.
— Come To Light
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O Messengers ٱلرُّسُلُ O Messengers كُلُوا۟ Eat مِنَ of ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ the good things وَٱعْمَلُوا۟ and do صَـٰلِحًا ۖ righteous (deeds) إِنِّى Indeed, I Am بِمَا of what تَعْمَلُونَ you do عَلِيمٌۭ All-Knower ٥١
[Allāh said], "O messengers, eat from the good foods and work righteousness. Indeed I, of what you do, am Knowing.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّ And indeed هَـٰذِهِۦٓ this أُمَّتُكُمْ your religion أُمَّةًۭ (is) religion وَٰحِدَةًۭ one وَأَنَا۠ And I Am رَبُّكُمْ your Lord فَٱتَّقُونِ so fear Me ٥٢
And indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me."
— Come To Light
فَتَقَطَّعُوٓا۟ But they cut off أَمْرَهُم their affair (of unity) بَيْنَهُمْ between them زُبُرًۭا ۖ (into) sects كُلُّ each حِزْبٍۭ faction بِمَا in what لَدَيْهِمْ they have فَرِحُونَ rejoicing ٥٣
But they [i.e., the people] divided their religion among them into portions [i.e., sects] - each faction, in what it has, rejoicing.
— Come To Light
فَذَرْهُمْ So leave them فِى in غَمْرَتِهِمْ their confusion حَتَّىٰ until حِينٍ a time ٥٤
So leave them in their confusion for a time.
— Come To Light
أَيَحْسَبُونَ Do they think أَنَّمَا that what نُمِدُّهُم We extend to them بِهِۦ [with it] مِن of مَّالٍۢ wealth وَبَنِينَ and children ٥٥
Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children
— Come To Light
نُسَارِعُ We hasten لَهُمْ to them فِى in ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ ۚ the good بَل Nay لَّا not يَشْعُرُونَ they perceive ٥٦
Is [because] We hasten for them good things? Rather, they do not perceive.
— Come To Light
إِنَّ Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who هُم [they] مِّنْ from خَشْيَةِ (the) fear رَبِّهِم (of) their Lord مُّشْفِقُونَ (are) cautious ٥٧
Indeed, they who are apprehensive from fear of their Lord
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those هُم [they] بِـَٔايَـٰتِ in (the) Signs رَبِّهِمْ (of) their Lord يُؤْمِنُونَ believe ٥٨
And they who believe in the signs of their Lord
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those هُم [they] بِرَبِّهِمْ with their Lord لَا (do) not يُشْرِكُونَ associate partners ٥٩
And they who do not associate anything with their Lord
— Come To Light
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who يُؤْتُونَ give مَآ what ءَاتَوا۟ they give وَّقُلُوبُهُمْ while their hearts وَجِلَةٌ (are) fearful أَنَّهُمْ because they إِلَىٰ to رَبِّهِمْ their Lord رَٰجِعُونَ (will) return ٦٠
And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord -
— Come To Light
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ (It is) those يُسَـٰرِعُونَ who hasten فِى in ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ the good (deeds) وَهُمْ and they لَهَا in them سَـٰبِقُونَ (are) foremost ٦١
It is those who hasten to good deeds, and they outstrip [others] therein.
— Come To Light
وَلَا And not نُكَلِّفُ We burden نَفْسًا any soul إِلَّا except وُسْعَهَا ۖ (to) its capacity وَلَدَيْنَا and with Us كِتَـٰبٌۭ (is) a Record يَنطِقُ (which) speaks بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ with the truth وَهُمْ and they لَا (will) not يُظْلَمُونَ be wronged ٦٢
And We charge no soul except [with that within] its capacity, and with Us is a record which speaks with truth; and they will not be wronged.
— Come To Light
بَلْ Nay قُلُوبُهُمْ their hearts فِى (are) in غَمْرَةٍۢ confusion مِّنْ over هَـٰذَا this وَلَهُمْ and for them أَعْمَـٰلٌۭ (are) deeds مِّن besides دُونِ besides ذَٰلِكَ that هُمْ they لَهَا for it عَـٰمِلُونَ (are) doers ٦٣
But their hearts are covered with confusion over this, and they have [evil] deeds besides that [i.e., disbelief] which they are doing,
— Come To Light
حَتَّىٰٓ Until إِذَآ when أَخَذْنَا We seize مُتْرَفِيهِم their affluent ones بِٱلْعَذَابِ with the punishment إِذَا behold هُمْ They يَجْـَٔرُونَ cry for help ٦٤
Until when We seize their affluent ones with punishment, at once they are crying [to Allāh] for help.
— Come To Light
لَا (Do) not تَجْـَٔرُوا۟ cry for help ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖ today إِنَّكُم Indeed, you مِّنَّا from Us لَا not تُنصَرُونَ will be helped ٦٥
Do not cry out today. Indeed, by Us you will not be helped.
— Come To Light
قَدْ Verily كَانَتْ were ءَايَـٰتِى My Verses تُتْلَىٰ recited عَلَيْكُمْ to you فَكُنتُمْ but you used عَلَىٰٓ (to) on أَعْقَـٰبِكُمْ your heels تَنكِصُونَ turn back ٦٦
My verses had already been recited to you, but you were turning back on your heels.
— Come To Light
مُسْتَكْبِرِينَ (Being) arrogant بِهِۦ about it سَـٰمِرًۭا conversing by night تَهْجُرُونَ speaking evil ٦٧
In arrogance regarding it, conversing by night, speaking evil.
— Come To Light
أَفَلَمْ Then, do not يَدَّبَّرُوا۟ they ponder ٱلْقَوْلَ the Word أَمْ or جَآءَهُم has come to them مَّا what لَمْ not يَأْتِ (had) come ءَابَآءَهُمُ (to) their forefathers ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (to) their forefathers ٦٨
Then have they not reflected over the word [i.e., the Qur’ān], or has there come to them that which had not come to their forefathers?
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or لَمْ (do) not يَعْرِفُوا۟ they recognize رَسُولَهُمْ their Messenger فَهُمْ so they لَهُۥ (are) rejecting him مُنكِرُونَ (are) rejecting him ٦٩
Or did they not know their Messenger, so they are toward him disacknowledging?
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or يَقُولُونَ they say بِهِۦ In him جِنَّةٌۢ ۚ (is) madness بَلْ Nay جَآءَهُم he brought them بِٱلْحَقِّ the truth وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ but most of them لِلْحَقِّ to the truth كَـٰرِهُونَ (are) averse ٧٠
Or do they say, "In him is madness"? Rather, he brought them the truth, but most of them, to the truth, are averse.
— Come To Light
وَلَوِ But if ٱتَّبَعَ (had) followed ٱلْحَقُّ the truth أَهْوَآءَهُمْ their desires لَفَسَدَتِ surely (would) have been corrupted ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضُ and the earth وَمَن and whoever فِيهِنَّ ۚ (is) therein بَلْ Nay أَتَيْنَـٰهُم We have brought them بِذِكْرِهِمْ their reminder فَهُمْ but they عَن from ذِكْرِهِم their reminder مُّعْرِضُونَ (are) turning away ٧١
But if the Truth [i.e., Allāh] had followed their inclinations, the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been ruined. Rather, We have brought them their message, but they, from their message, are turning away.
— Come To Light
أَمْ Or تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ you ask them خَرْجًۭا (for) a payment فَخَرَاجُ But the payment رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord خَيْرٌۭ ۖ (is) best وَهُوَ and He خَيْرُ (is) the Best ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ (of) the Providers ٧٢
Or do you, [O Muḥammad], ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is best, and He is the best of providers.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّكَ And indeed, you لَتَدْعُوهُمْ certainly call them إِلَىٰ to صِرَٰطٍۢ (the) Path مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ Straight ٧٣
And indeed, you invite them to a straight path.
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّ And indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who لَا (do) not يُؤْمِنُونَ believe بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ in the Hereafter عَنِ from ٱلصِّرَٰطِ the path لَنَـٰكِبُونَ surely (are) deviating ٧٤
But indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter are deviating from the path.
— Come To Light
۞ وَلَوْ And if رَحِمْنَـٰهُمْ We had mercy on them وَكَشَفْنَا and We removed مَا what بِهِم (was) on them مِّن of ضُرٍّۢ (the) hardship لَّلَجُّوا۟ surely they would persist فِى in طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ their transgression يَعْمَهُونَ wandering blindly ٧٥
And even if We gave them mercy and removed what was upon them of affliction, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly.
— Come To Light
وَلَقَدْ And verily أَخَذْنَـٰهُم We seized them بِٱلْعَذَابِ with the punishment فَمَا but not ٱسْتَكَانُوا۟ they submit لِرَبِّهِمْ to their Lord وَمَا and not يَتَضَرَّعُونَ they supplicate humbly ٧٦
And We had gripped them with suffering [as a warning], but they did not yield to their Lord, nor did they humbly supplicate, [and will continue thus]
— Come To Light
حَتَّىٰٓ Until إِذَا when فَتَحْنَا We opened عَلَيْهِم for them بَابًۭا a gate ذَا of a punishment عَذَابٍۢ of a punishment شَدِيدٍ severe إِذَا behold هُمْ They فِيهِ in it مُبْلِسُونَ (will be in) despair ٧٧
Until when We have opened before them a door of severe punishment, immediately they will be therein in despair.
— Come To Light
وَهُوَ And He ٱلَّذِىٓ (is) the One Who أَنشَأَ produced لَكُمُ for you ٱلسَّمْعَ the hearing وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ and the sight وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۚ and the feeling قَلِيلًۭا little مَّا (is) what تَشْكُرُونَ you give thanks ٧٨
And it is He who produced for you hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect]; little are you grateful.
— Come To Light
وَهُوَ And He ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who ذَرَأَكُمْ multiplied you فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth وَإِلَيْهِ and to Him تُحْشَرُونَ you will be gathered ٧٩
And it is He who has multiplied you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.
— Come To Light
وَهُوَ And He ٱلَّذِى (is) the One Who يُحْىِۦ gives life وَيُمِيتُ and causes death وَلَهُ and for Him ٱخْتِلَـٰفُ (is the) alternation ٱلَّيْلِ (of) the night وَٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ and the day أَفَلَا Then will not تَعْقِلُونَ you reason ٨٠
And it is He who gives life and causes death, and His is the alternation of the night and the day. Then will you not reason?
— Come To Light
بَلْ Nay قَالُوا۟ they say مِثْلَ (the) like مَا (of) what قَالَ said ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ the former (people) ٨١
Rather, they say like what the former peoples said.
— Come To Light
قَالُوٓا۟ They said أَءِذَا What! When مِتْنَا we are dead وَكُنَّا and become تُرَابًۭا dust وَعِظَـٰمًا and bones أَءِنَّا would we لَمَبْعُوثُونَ surely be resurrected ٨٢
They said, "When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
— Come To Light
لَقَدْ Verily وُعِدْنَا we have been promised نَحْنُ [we] وَءَابَآؤُنَا and our forefathers هَـٰذَا this مِن before قَبْلُ before إِنْ not هَـٰذَآ (is) this إِلَّآ but أَسَـٰطِيرُ (the) tales ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ (of) the former (people) ٨٣
We have been promised this, we and our forefathers, before; this is not but legends of the former peoples."
— Come To Light
قُل Say لِّمَنِ To whom (belongs) ٱلْأَرْضُ the earth وَمَن and whoever فِيهَآ (is) in it إِن if كُنتُمْ you تَعْلَمُونَ know ٨٤
Say, [O Muḥammad], "To whom belongs the earth and whoever is in it, if you should know?"
— Come To Light
سَيَقُولُونَ They will say لِلَّهِ ۚ To Allah قُلْ Say أَفَلَا Then will not تَذَكَّرُونَ you remember ٨٥
They will say, "To Allāh." Say, "Then will you not remember?"
— Come To Light
قُلْ Say مَن Who رَّبُّ (is the) Lord ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ (of) the seven heavens ٱلسَّبْعِ (of) the seven heavens وَرَبُّ and (the) Lord ٱلْعَرْشِ (of) the Throne ٱلْعَظِيمِ the Great ٨٦
Say, "Who is Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Great Throne?"
— Come To Light
سَيَقُولُونَ They will say لِلَّهِ ۚ Allah قُلْ Say أَفَلَا Then will not تَتَّقُونَ you fear (Him) ٨٧
They will say, "[They belong] to Allāh." Say, "Then will you not fear Him?"
— Come To Light
قُلْ Say مَنۢ Who is (it) بِيَدِهِۦ in Whose Hand(s) مَلَكُوتُ (is the) dominion كُلِّ (of) all شَىْءٍۢ things وَهُوَ and He يُجِيرُ protects وَلَا and no (one) يُجَارُ (can) be protected عَلَيْهِ against Him إِن If كُنتُمْ you تَعْلَمُونَ know ٨٨
Say, "In whose hand is the realm of all things - and He protects while none can protect against Him - if you should know?"
— Come To Light
سَيَقُولُونَ They will say لِلَّهِ ۚ Allah قُلْ Say فَأَنَّىٰ Then how تُسْحَرُونَ are you deluded ٨٩
They will say, "[All belongs] to Allāh." Say, "Then how are you deluded?"
— Come To Light
بَلْ Nay أَتَيْنَـٰهُم We (have) brought them بِٱلْحَقِّ the truth وَإِنَّهُمْ but indeed, they لَكَـٰذِبُونَ surely, (are) liars ٩٠
Rather, We have brought them the truth, and indeed they are liars.
— Come To Light
مَا Not ٱتَّخَذَ Allah has taken ٱللَّهُ Allah has taken مِن any وَلَدٍۢ son وَمَا and not كَانَ is مَعَهُۥ with Him مِنْ any إِلَـٰهٍ ۚ god إِذًۭا Then لَّذَهَبَ surely (would have) taken away كُلُّ each إِلَـٰهٍۭ god بِمَا what خَلَقَ he created وَلَعَلَا and surely would have overpowered بَعْضُهُمْ some of them عَلَىٰ [on] بَعْضٍۢ ۚ others سُبْحَـٰنَ Glory be ٱللَّهِ (to) Allah عَمَّا above what يَصِفُونَ they attribute ٩١
Allāh has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have [sought to] overcome others. Exalted is Allāh above what they describe [concerning Him].
— Come To Light
عَـٰلِمِ Knower ٱلْغَيْبِ (of) the unseen وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ and the witnessed فَتَعَـٰلَىٰ exalted is He عَمَّا above what يُشْرِكُونَ they associate ٩٢
[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, so high is He above what they associate [with Him].
— Come To Light
قُل Say رَّبِّ My Lord إِمَّا If تُرِيَنِّى You should show me مَا what يُوعَدُونَ they are promised ٩٣
Say, [O Muḥammad], "My Lord, if You should show me that which they are promised,
— Come To Light
رَبِّ My Lord فَلَا then (do) not تَجْعَلْنِى place me فِى among ٱلْقَوْمِ the people ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers ٩٤
My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people."
— Come To Light
وَإِنَّا And indeed We عَلَىٰٓ on أَن that نُّرِيَكَ We show you مَا what نَعِدُهُمْ We have promised them لَقَـٰدِرُونَ surely able ٩٥
And indeed, We are Able to show you what We have promised them.
— Come To Light
ٱدْفَعْ Repel بِٱلَّتِى by that هِىَ which أَحْسَنُ (is) best ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ ۚ the evil نَحْنُ We أَعْلَمُ know best بِمَا of what يَصِفُونَ they attribute ٩٦
Repel, by [means of] what is best, [their] evil. We are most knowing of what they describe.
— Come To Light
وَقُل And say رَّبِّ My Lord أَعُوذُ I seek refuge بِكَ in You مِنْ from هَمَزَٰتِ (the) suggestions ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ (of) the evil ones ٩٧
And say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils,
— Come To Light
وَأَعُوذُ And I seek refuge بِكَ in You رَبِّ My Lord أَن Lest يَحْضُرُونِ they be present with me ٩٨
And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me."
— Come To Light
حَتَّىٰٓ Until إِذَا when جَآءَ comes أَحَدَهُمُ (to) one of them ٱلْمَوْتُ the death قَالَ he says رَبِّ My Lord ٱرْجِعُونِ Send me back ٩٩
[For such is the state of the disbelievers] until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back
— Come To Light
لَعَلِّىٓ That I may أَعْمَلُ do صَـٰلِحًۭا righteous (deeds) فِيمَا in what تَرَكْتُ ۚ I left behind كَلَّآ ۚ No إِنَّهَا Indeed, it كَلِمَةٌ (is) a word هُوَ he قَآئِلُهَا ۖ speaks it وَمِن and before them وَرَآئِهِم and before them بَرْزَخٌ (is) a barrier إِلَىٰ till يَوْمِ (the) Day يُبْعَثُونَ they are resurrected ١٠٠
That I might do righteousness in that which I left behind." No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.
— Come To Light
فَإِذَا So when نُفِخَ is blown فِى in ٱلصُّورِ the trumpet فَلَآ then not أَنسَابَ (there) will be relationship بَيْنَهُمْ among them يَوْمَئِذٍۢ that Day وَلَا and not يَتَسَآءَلُونَ will they ask each other ١٠١
So when the Horn is blown, no relationship will there be among them that Day, nor will they ask about one another.
— Come To Light
فَمَن Then (the one) whose ثَقُلَتْ (are) heavy مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ his scales فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those هُمُ they ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ (are) the successful ١٠٢
And those whose scales are heavy [with good deeds] - it is they who are the successful.
— Come To Light
وَمَنْ But (the one) whose خَفَّتْ (are) light مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ his scales فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those ٱلَّذِينَ they [who] خَسِرُوٓا۟ have lost أَنفُسَهُمْ their souls فِى in جَهَنَّمَ Hell خَـٰلِدُونَ they (will) abide forever ١٠٣
But those whose scales are light - those are the ones who have lost their souls, [being] in Hell, abiding eternally.
— Come To Light
تَلْفَحُ Will burn وُجُوهَهُمُ their faces ٱلنَّارُ the Fire وَهُمْ and they فِيهَا in it كَـٰلِحُونَ (will) grin with displaced lips ١٠٤
The Fire will sear their faces, and they therein will have taut smiles.
— Come To Light
أَلَمْ Were not تَكُنْ Were not ءَايَـٰتِى My Verses تُتْلَىٰ recited عَلَيْكُمْ to you فَكُنتُم and you used (to) بِهَا deny them تُكَذِّبُونَ deny them ١٠٥
[It will be said], "Were not My verses recited to you and you used to deny them?"
— Come To Light
قَالُوا۟ They (will) say رَبَّنَا Our Lord غَلَبَتْ Overcame عَلَيْنَا [on] us شِقْوَتُنَا our wretchedness وَكُنَّا and we were قَوْمًۭا a people ضَآلِّينَ astray ١٠٦
They will say, "Our Lord, our wretchedness overcame us, and we were a people astray.
— Come To Light
رَبَّنَآ Our Lord أَخْرِجْنَا Bring us out مِنْهَا from it فَإِنْ then if عُدْنَا we return فَإِنَّا then indeed, we ظَـٰلِمُونَ (would be) wrongdoers ١٠٧
Our Lord, remove us from it, and if we were to return [to evil], we would indeed be wrongdoers."
— Come To Light
قَالَ He (will) say ٱخْسَـُٔوا۟ Remain despised فِيهَا in it وَلَا and (do) not تُكَلِّمُونِ speak to Me ١٠٨
He will say, "Remain despised therein and do not speak to Me.
— Come To Light
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed كَانَ (there) was فَرِيقٌۭ a party مِّنْ of عِبَادِى My slaves يَقُولُونَ (who) said رَبَّنَآ Our Lord ءَامَنَّا We believe فَٱغْفِرْ so forgive لَنَا us وَٱرْحَمْنَا and have mercy on us وَأَنتَ and You خَيْرُ (are) best ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ (of) those who show mercy ١٠٩
Indeed, there was a party of My servants who said, 'Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful.'
— Come To Light
فَٱتَّخَذْتُمُوهُمْ But you took them سِخْرِيًّا (in) mockery حَتَّىٰٓ until أَنسَوْكُمْ they made you forget ذِكْرِى My remembrance وَكُنتُم and you used (to) مِّنْهُمْ at them تَضْحَكُونَ laugh ١١٠
But you took them in mockery to the point that they made you forget My remembrance, and you used to laugh at them.
— Come To Light
إِنِّى Indeed, I جَزَيْتُهُمُ have rewarded them ٱلْيَوْمَ this Day بِمَا because صَبَرُوٓا۟ they were patient أَنَّهُمْ indeed, they هُمُ [they] ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ (are) the successful ones ١١١
Indeed, I have rewarded them this Day for their patient endurance - that they are the attainers [of success]."
— Come To Light
قَـٰلَ He will say كَمْ How long لَبِثْتُمْ did you remain فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth عَدَدَ (in) number سِنِينَ (of) years ١١٢
[Allāh] will say, "How long did you remain on earth in number of years?"
— Come To Light
قَالُوا۟ They will say لَبِثْنَا We remained يَوْمًا a day أَوْ or بَعْضَ a part يَوْمٍۢ (of) a day فَسْـَٔلِ but ask ٱلْعَآدِّينَ those who keep count ١١٣
They will say, "We remained a day or part of a day; ask those who enumerate."
— Come To Light
قَـٰلَ He will say إِن Not لَّبِثْتُمْ you stayed إِلَّا but قَلِيلًۭا ۖ a little لَّوْ if أَنَّكُمْ only you كُنتُمْ [you] تَعْلَمُونَ knew ١١٤
He will say, "You stayed not but a little - if only you had known.
— Come To Light
أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ Then did you think أَنَّمَا that خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ We created you عَبَثًۭا uselessly وَأَنَّكُمْ and that you إِلَيْنَا to Us لَا not تُرْجَعُونَ will be returned ١١٥
Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned?"
— Come To Light
فَتَعَـٰلَى So exalted is ٱللَّهُ Allah ٱلْمَلِكُ the King ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ the Truth لَآ (There is) no إِلَـٰهَ god إِلَّا except هُوَ Him رَبُّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَرْشِ (of) the Throne ٱلْكَرِيمِ Honorable ١١٦
So exalted is Allāh, the Sovereign, the Truth; there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.
— Come To Light
وَمَن And whoever يَدْعُ invokes مَعَ with ٱللَّهِ Allah إِلَـٰهًا god ءَاخَرَ other لَا no بُرْهَـٰنَ proof لَهُۥ for him بِهِۦ in it فَإِنَّمَا Then only حِسَابُهُۥ his account عِندَ (is) with رَبِّهِۦٓ ۚ his Lord إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, [he] لَا not يُفْلِحُ will succeed ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ the disbelievers ١١٧
And whoever invokes besides Allāh another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.
— Come To Light
وَقُل And say رَّبِّ My Lord ٱغْفِرْ Forgive وَٱرْحَمْ and have mercy وَأَنتَ and You خَيْرُ (are the) Best ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ (of) those who show mercy ١١٨
And, [O Muḥammad], say, "My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful."
— Come To Light
